Abstract

To improve the progress of a tourism object, the role of marketing is needed. Tourism marketing is defined as an effort to facilitate tourism transactions for different groups of people. The purpose of this study was to determine the direct promotion strategy and indirect promotion strategy carried out by the Department of Culture and Tourism in increasing tourist visits at Solop Beach, Indragiri Hilir Regency. The method in this research uses a qualitative approach. The research was conducted at the Department of Culture and Tourism of Indragiri Hilir Regency. The subjects in this study were 5 people, namely 1 head of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Indragiri Hilir Regency and 1 head of business development and tourism marketing in Indragiri Hilir Regency and 3 people / visitors. Collecting data using documentation, observation and interviews. Data analysis used descriptive quantitative. The results of the study explain that the direct promotion carried out by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Indragiri Hilir Regency in promoting the tourist attraction of Solop Beach is still ineffective, due to the lack of national and local activities or events that are able to introduce the natural beauty of Solop Beach. Indirect promotion by the Culture and Tourism Office of Indragiri Hilir Regency is also still not optimal in providing information about the development of Solop Beach tourism, such as the availability of updated information from both the official website and social media. The inhibiting factors in the promotion of Solop Beach tourism in Indragiri Hilir Regency include the lack of facilities and infrastructure, limited budget, remote tourist locations, quality resources and lack of awareness for traveling. Keywords: Promotion Strategy, Direct Promotion and Indirect Promotion

Abstract

Modernization fishery tools facilitated by government support is assumed to help improving fishermen incomes. However, on reality the introduction of the more advanced tools has also posed challenges to the traditional fishermen. Modernization of fishery technology can also caused conflict between fishermen. This found evidence in the conflict between longline (rawai) fishers and trawl fishers in Bengkalis District-Riau has occurred for more than 30 years. The modernization of fishing gear by government is one of the triggers of the conflict. This research aims to uncover the root causes of conflict and understand communication management to overcome the conflict between traditional and modern fishers. This research used the qualitative and explorative method. The results show that the conflict among fishers in the coastal area of Bengkalis occurs due to the use of trawl and the territorial dispute in fishing. The causes of conflict between fishers are related to lack of rule understanding, economic inequality, and differences in value and culture. Government delivery of the aid that is not sensitive to the need fo traditional fishermen play role in the conflict. This is due to the problem communication management. The resolution of the conflicts at the Fishers community level is possible if the government is able to build the atmosphere through appropriate policies, programs and communication ways for the Fishers community.

Abstract

This research is aimed at analyzing the process of negotiation and consolidation on the symbol of clothing and architecture of Riau Malay, and different perceptions in its intepretation. This is done as an effort to unify the meaning of these symbols as cultural identity of the people of Riau. This is a qualitative research with Riau people as informants which purposively selected. The results showed that the clothing symbols negotiated and consolidate, while architecture symbol still in the process of consolidative.

Abstract

Stereotip negatif yang dilekatkan pada etnik Melayu dijadikan ukuran untuk menilai anggota etnik tersebut. Datangnya era reformasi yang memberi ruang pada etnik lokal untuk menduduki jabatan-jabatan strategis membuat etnik Melayu berkesempatan untuk merekonstruksi stereotip yang melekat pada diri mereka. Penelitian mengkaji bagaimana tokoh Melayu mengcounter stereotip negatif sekaligus merekonstruksi stereotip tersebut menjadi sesuatu yang positif bagi etnik. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan studi fenomenologi. Pengumpulan data lapangan menggunakan wawancara mendalam dan observasi. Hasil penelitian ini memberitahukan bahwa stereotip negatif pada etnik Melayu merupakan bentuk ketidaktahuan pendatang terhadap Orang Melayu. Upaya meng-counter stereotip negatif yang dilekatkan pada etnik Melayu dilakukan untuk meningkatkan status etnik yang lebih positif. Kondisi tersebut menjadi penting karena pascareformasi etnik Melayu memiliki kesempatan yang besar untuk menduduki jabatan- jabatan strategis di Pekanbaru Riau.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the phenomenon of veiled muslim woman communication in Pekanbaru in using social media. This research reveals the communication experience, self-concept, and motives of veiled muslim women through the use of social media, with qualitative methods and phenomenological approaches. The results showed that the experience of veiled muslim women communication using social media from various aspects, with the best experience of meeting new fellow Muslims, to the unpleasant experience was considered a terrorist. Their self-concept in the use of social media is to create a positive self-concept with a friendly nature because the Islamic religion teaches creating good relationships among muslims as the Prophet of Allah exhorts. Other motives, veiled muslim women use social media as a means of promotion for businesses, obtain religious studies, and communication for understanding religious beliefs.

Abstract

In 2018, in Mandau District, Bengkalis Regency, there was a conflict regarding the inauguration of the Batak Traditional Hall. The rejection of the inauguration was carried out by the Lembaga Adat Melayu Riau (LAMR) Mandau due to the inauguration of the Balai Adat Batak in contradiction with the vision and mission of Riau 2020 which made Riau the center of Malay culture throughout Southeast Asia. Therefore, the event (LAMR) Mandau negotiated with the owner of rumah adat so that the inauguration of the balai adat was canceled. The purpose of this study was to determine the strategies of negotiating both parties, the stages in negotiating both parties, and the meaning of traditional houses for both parties.The research method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method, by setting 8 (eight) research subjects as informants through a purposive technique. Data collection techniques used in this study were interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique in this study uses an interactive data model. Checking data uses the technique of extending participation and triangulation.The results of the study indicate that the negotiation strategy used by both parties is the Win-Lose strategy. This is because both parties both went to win in the negotiations, and the end result of the LAMR Mandau won by the cancellation of the inauguration of the Balai Adat Batak. In carrying out this strategy is assisted by negotiation techniques used by the LAMR Mandau was to make an agenda. Meanwhile the owner of traditional houses did not do any techniques. Mediation is another technique used by both parties to reach an agreement, because during the negotiations there was no meeting point. In interpreting traditional houses there is a slight difference in meaning. The owner of Balai Adat batak means as a form of symbols and inheritance that must be preserved wherever they are. However, both parties agreed that Balai Adat is the institutional center of a culture, which in the Balai Adat is that all traditional elders meet, conduct deliberations and cultural activities are carried out.Keyword: Negotiation, Conflict, Balai Adat

Abstract

The ceremony tepuk tepung tawar is a cultural activity and practice Malay culture. This ceremony is also a tradition / habit inherited family passed down from generation to generation is performed at the wedding. Ceremony is also believed to have meaning as a gift and blessing prayer for the welfare of both the bride and her entire family, as it also significantly as a symbol of rejection against any reinforcements and the possible receipt of future disturbances. This study aims to determine the meaning of the symbols and symbolics and values contained and benefit what is obtained from the ceremony in traditional wedding Malay Riau.This study applies qualitative methods of data collection were obtained based on the fact that in location occurs through observation, interviews, and documentation. Informants were selected by purposive sampling technique, where informen in this study of 10 people, consisting of (traditional leaders, actors ceremony Tepuk Tepung Tawar). The study uses the theory of Symbolic Interaction. Data analysis techniques to reduce the data, collecting data, presenting the data, draw conclusions and evaluation using data validity checking technique that is an extension of participation and triangulationThe research shows that this ceremony is not only regarded as having meaning giving ceremony of prayer and blessing for the well-being of both the bride and her entire family and as a mere gathering of media alone. In addition, this ceremony has a broad meaning ranging from tools and materials, Tepuk Tepung Tawar actors, procedures do. As for the value contained in this ceremony is a social values, family values, religious and cultural values. Coupled also with benefit obtained from perpetrators and implementers ceremony between Tepuk tepung Tawar is delivered prayers, hopes, goals and expectations, friendship, prayed for the good and preservation of culture.Key word: ceremony, tepuk tepung tawar, mean, value, benefit.

Abstract

Kuda lumping is one of local cultural assets that owned by the Indonesian people and must preserved. In this art sesajen is one of the elements that can not be separated. In the sesajen in kuda lumping by Karya Budaya group, there are some symbolic aspects that have certain meaning is represented from the attributes and sesajen activities performed by the handler and kuda lumping toward sesajen. The purpose of this study is to know the meaning of physical symbols, social situation and social interaction of sesajen in the traditional art kuda lumping by Karya Budaya group at Kemuning Muda Village. This research uses qualitative research method with Symbolic Interaction approach. The informants in this research are the kuda lumping masterpiece of Karya Budaya, the trainer of kuda lumping of Karya Budaya, the senior and junior players of kuda lumping of Karya Budaya also the kuda lumping audiences which are selected purposively. Data collection techniques are conduted through in-depth interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the symbolic meaning of sesajen in the kuda lumping art of Karya Budaya at Kemuning Muda Village Bunga Raya Subdistrict Siak Regency consists of physical symbols that include people offer in the sesajen it self such as incense, chicken ingkung, pisang raja, snacks, rice pulut, egg, cassava flower, drink, rice, crackers, peyek, lalaban, tubers, pencok bakal, white rice and tempe bacem, comb, powder, mirror and lipstick, yellow rice, ketupat, dadap leaf, mermaid and young coconut with certain meanings every part. The social situation of the offerings in the art of the kuda lumping of Culture consists of the chants of prayer (mantra) read by the handler, incense burning by the handler, sow yellow rice by the handler and eat the offerings by the kuda lumping players of Karya Budaya which also have a certain meaning. The meaning of social interaction products include the meaning of sesajen from the handler's, from the coach, from the side of the kuda lumping by Karya Budaya group and from the viewer art of kuda lumping art show.

Abstract

Beauty with white-skinned being ideal for women, due to the fact that the of beauty has been constructed by some idelogies that linked to the flow of information giuen by the media making the most of societies or sororities disired to look beauty and attractived with the white-skinned. While the community of Indonesian mentionedl their skin as brown or yellow ripe as type V. Nevertheless, among women who are proud of their beautiful brown-skined because the meaning of beauty for each individual varies based on the knowledge and understanding in constructing the meaning of beauty. This research aims to know the meaning of beauty and experience of communication for brown-skinned coed Riau University. This research used qualitative research methods with the phenomenology approach. The research subject consists of five brown-skinned coeds University of Riau, who selected by using two categories 3 people used incidental sampling technique and 2 people the used snowball. The technique of data collection was conducted through interview, observation, as well as documentation. The results of this research showed that are as follows the firstly, the meaning of beauty for brown-skinned Coed University of Riau which consist of the outside beauty that is fair skinned, good-looking, clean, and face. While the beauty from inside the soul, the heart, intelligence, mind and personality. Secondly, the experience of communication are categorized into two categories, the sweet communication experience be a good acceptance, support from family, neighbors, friends, girlfriends and humour that make family relationships become close and harmonious, get more attention, get a beloued call, get a lovely compliment, unique characters and not boring. And bitter communication experience such as rejection from family, neighbors, friends, opposite sex, the subject of humour, get mock, insults or pressure, get a new nicknam, less confident with the opposite sex, and hard to match the right clothes with skin color.Keyword: meaning beauty, Coed, Brown-skinned

Abstract

Tourism is a trend that is growing quite rapidly and is considered a promising industry, because tourism has many benefits for society in terms of economy, culture, environment, science, and others. Historical potential is one of Tanah Datar's great assets in developing its tourism. The fort vandercapellen fort is a relic of the Dutch era, now this fort has changed its function to become a tourism, youth and sports office and is used as a fort vandercapellen traditional market that sells typical MinangKabau food / drinks. Therefore, the Tanah Datar community must work together and work together to promote the authentic Minangkabau flatland as a branding in the Tanah datar district, so that it continues to increase economic growth and the welfare of the community. This study aims to determine the background of the van der capellen creative market as a creative tourism destination in Tanah Datar district and to find out the GenPi tourism communication strategy in developing the van der capellen creative market as a creative tourist destination.   This study used a qualitative research method, the research subjects were 3 people who were selected using purposive technique, the main informants in this study were 2 people from the tourism, youth and sports offices, the GenPi (GenerasiPesona Indonesia) and the manager of promotion and tourism information at tourism promotion section as well as from the community as supporters. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observation and documentation. Data analysis techniques are data reduction, data collection, data presentation, drawing conclusions and evaluation using data validity checking techniques, namely participation extension and triangulation.   The results of this study indicate that to determine the background of the van der capellen market as a creative tourist destination for flatland regencies, to determine the tourism communication strategy in developing the van der capellen creative market is to promote the van der capellen creative market in various media, both print and media. no, building a shop / stall that will be used by merchants to sell is done to improve the standard of living of the surrounding community, create photo spots with the MinangKabau concept in the past, to transact visitors using a special coin of one coin worth Rp. 2,500
