Abstract

Cultural diversity greatly influences the way a person interacts. When interacting with people who have different cultures, a person will bring character to their culture. Among the many immigrant tribes in the area, it is the relationship between the Akit and the Malays that is most striking compared to other immigrant tribes. This happens because the people of the Akit Tribe and the Malay Tribe live next door, which makes the two tribes inevitably interact with each other. Phenomena and realities that occur in the Akit and Malay tribes today are still debating and conflicting which results in their disharmony relationship. However, communication between the immigrant ethnic community and the Akit Tribe cannot be avoided because in daily life because the two tribes need each other. This research uses Face Negotiation Theory.The purpose of this study was to determine the form of facework and conflict management of the Akit Tribe and the Malay community in Kepau Baru Village, Meranti Islands Regency.This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. The data collection technique is done by interview, observation, and documentation. Meanwhile, the data analysis technique uses descriptive analysis according to Huberman and Miles. And the data validity checking techniques used in this study were participation extension and triangulation.The results showed that in communicating, the Akit tribe and the Malayu community displayed their positive and negative faces. The Malay community displays their positive faces by being polite. Meanwhile, the Akit people show their positive faces by showing that they are people who behave as they are. A negative face is shown by the Akit tribe and the Malay community to maintain their culture. When the two communities communicate, if they find things that are not in accordance with their culture, they will avoid and act indifferent. Prejudice and stereotypes are the causes of conflict between the Akit tribe and the Malayu community in Kepau Baru Village. In resolving conflict, the leader has a very important role, namely by way of conflict prevention, conflict resolution, conflict management, conflict resolution and conflict transformation.

Abstract

Pekanbaru city has a beautiful and unique historical tourism. Yet media of promotion and publication about this historical tourism is not maximalized that the feedback from local society is lack. It cause unpopularity of the tourism. The department of culture and tourism pekanbaru city's role in promoting petangmegamg ritual is highly needed wether it is direct or through media so that society can be familiar with the meaning of the petang megang symbol. The purpose of this research is to find out the department's role in promoting petangmegang ritual.This is a qualitative descriptive research based on observation, interview and documentation. There are 12 informants in this research. Writer analyzed the data using interactive data analysis model with triangulasi and participation extention to check the validity of data.Result shows that the department's role to attract the society is in the form of brochures, baliho and spanduk, exhibition, photos, calendar events, external magazines, and local television station which is Riau Televisi. The role in promoting the petangmegang ritual is in the form of giving a good infrastructures, good relationship with printed and electronic media. Some of the society of pekanbaru understand the symbol of petang megang ritual, which is the thankfulness of people and the way of cleaning up body and soul in welcoming the holy month Ramadhan. This is a tradition from our anchestor that need to be saved.Key word: role, promotion, petang megang ritual

Abstract

Communications also occur in a theater, because there are people who come together and work together to deliver the message through theater. Messages and symbols designed by the director to convey meaning to the audience. Theater royalty is a kind of traditional Malay arts that still exists today. This research aims to determine how the communication that occurs in the theater nobility in conveying the message of history and culture in the Riau Malay. This study uses a qualitative method. The number of informants are as many as six people. Techniques used in the determination of the subject is purposive. The data is then discussed and analyzed through interactive data analysis model. Data collection techniques are in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. Mechanical checks the validity of the data using techniques extension of participation and triangulation techniques. The results showed that the process of the nobility theater is basically the process of communication. Bangsawan theater has symbols Malay ranging from theme stories, fashion, artistic Malay language until the system can be used as a medium to convey the message history and Malay culture. Symbol interpreted by players and spectators differ depending knowledge of the history and culture of the Malays. An environment that is very supportive of the nobility theater is a show that happens in the building staging. People who are involved in the theater is not only the aristocratic background of Malay culture. but there are also people outside of descent and Malay culture. The process of the theater nobility are: 1) The process of selecting text, 2) process of exercise and, 3) The performance theater. Abstract

The gordang sambilan performance art is a performance art that was eroded by technological developments and the development of musical instruments. Performing arts on gordang contain elements of art and cultural heritage values that must be preserved and preserved. The gordang sambilan show for the Mandailing community is a show that must be present in every custom event. The purpose of the study was to determine the meaning of the symbolic situation, the meaning of education, and the meaning of religion found in gordang sambilan performing arts. This study uses qualitative methods with a symbolic interaction approach. The informants in this study amounted to 8 people, 4 people were mandailing traditional figures, 2 gordang sambilan players and 2 people who watched the gordang sambilan show using a purposive and accidental. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The results showed that the meaning of the symbolic situation in gordang sambilan performance in Mandailing Natal District was composed of physical objects including the main tools (gordang sambilan), musical instruments (gong, sarune, and mongmongan) and gordang sambilan costumes that were adopted from the Mandailing community. The meaning of education in gordang sambilan performing arts is social education, haromonisasi education, social strata education in people's lives, and teaches the meaning of togetherness and mutual love. The meaning of religion in the gordang show while giving an explanation in maintaining speech and prioritizing parents rather than self-interest. Abstract

The development of technology in communication raises the growth of social networking sites that Ask.fm now becomes a popular social network that is loved by many people everywhere, especially in Pekanbaru. The use of social networking Ask.fm as a virtual communication media raises various meanings associated with the reasons why they choose to use the Ask.fm as a social network they use. This study aims to determine the motive, meaning features Ask.fm, and the meaning of friendship on the user experiences among other users in communication in virtual life.This research is a qualitative research with phenomenological approach. The Informants in this study were 5active Ask.fm users from various backgrounds who live in Pekanbaru, selected using purposive technique. The data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique includes data reduction, data presentation and conclusion and verification.The results indicates that the motive for using the Ask.fm as a virtual communication media among the informants consists of a Becauseto motive namely are trend, follow and unique, while in order to motive are the curiosity and the information provided in Ask.fm. Making meaning of features Path as media of communications among the informants consists of Ask.fm as media for the exchange of information, Ask.fm as a means to express feelings, Ask.fm as entertainment media and Ask.fm as a means for chatting. Meaning of friendship in Ask.fm as a virtual communication media among the informants that experience a positive relationship to expand friendship networking and to build a good friendship, while the negative friendship experiences such termination of friendships may occur as a result of the perceived discomfort and the chance of cyber bullying that often occurs in social media.Keywords: Social media, Ask.fm, Construction of Meaning

Abstract

Shari’a credit as a phenomenon becomes an interesting study for research. Shari’a credit is a usury-free credit that has not yet existed in Pekanbaru City, considering that the credit system in Indonesian is still dominated by conventional credit containing usury. One of shari’a credit that exist in Pekanbaru City is Shari’a Credits Ibn Auf. The rise of Shari’a Credits Ibn Auf in Pekanbaru City affects consumers in interpreting shari’a credit. This study aims to determine how the Ibn Auf consumer’s motive in doing shari’a credit and how they interpret the shari’a credit they are living. This research uses qualitative methods with phenomenological approach. Subject of this research consists of ten consumers of Shari’a CreditsIbn Auf in Pekanbaru City, selected by purposive technique. Data collected byobservation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. To test the validity of the data the author uses an extension of participation and triangulation. The results of this research indicate the Ibn Auf consumer’s motivein doing shari’a credit consists of past motive (because motive) and future motive (in order to motive). Because motive of Ibn Auf consumer’s in doing shari’a credit are(1) chased by debt collector, (2) Discomfort in the household, (3) knowing about usury, (4) following sunnah study, and (5) join the usuryfree community. In order to motive Ibn Auf consumer’s in doing shari’a credit are(1) want to avoid sin, (2) preach, (3) enforce shari’a of Islam, (4) hijrah overall, (5) live peacefully, and (6) follow the trend of Islamic Economy. Ibn Auf consumer’s interpret the shari’a credit they are livingas (1) credit according to the shari’a, (2) da’wah media, (3) usury-free credit, and (4) credit solution for moslem.

Abstract

Turun boniah is carried out before planting rice in the rice fields. One interesting aspect of the tradition is to go down turun boniah in Pulau Ingu village, Benai Subdistrict, apart from the fact that the tradition is still preserved and used as local wisdom by the local village community, as well as the implementation process. Seedling descent process consists of two stages, consisting of the preparation stage, and the implementation phase. Every step down there is a symbol that can be interpreted one by one. The purpose of this study was to find out the meaning of symbolic situations, products of social interaction and interpretation of tradition turun boniah  as local wisdom of the people of Pulau Ingu village, Benai District, Kuantan Singingi Regency. The method used in this study is qualitative with a symbolic interaction approach. The informants in this study were 7 people, consisting of traditional / community leaders 2 people, 2 people perpetrators and 3 people in general. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study showed that the meaning of the symbolic situation in the religious community in Ingu Island consisted of physical objects and social objects. The physical object in the boniah descent on the island of Ingu is, among others, water concoctions and tools that use the turun boniah  drop. The social object in the turun boniah  descends is the prayer and spell down . The meaning of the product social interaction, including the overall downward meaning of different perspectives from each informant. The figure is interpreted by the perpetrators as a tradition that must be preserved. The procession of turun boniah  is interpreted by traditional leaders as culture, customs that must continue to live, obedience to ancestors. The procession of turun boniah  is interpreted by the people of Pulau Ingu to have a different view on the meaning of the turun boniah . The meaning of the turun boniah  interpretation in Pulau Ingu Village includes open actions and closed actions. Closed action is related to motivation and feeling. Outdoor action actors turun boniah  include compact attitude and togetherness, as well as facial expressions of joy and happiness visible actors as well as expressions of emotional closeness between actors.

Abstract

Sirih tanya tradition in Malay customary marriage in Rokan IV Koto District, is carried on from generation to generation which contains values and norms in Malay people's lives. Sirih tanya tradition is a procession of proposing a woman to use betel pat, because Malay people believe that by delivering betel pat in proposing is a form of seriousness of a man. This reseach aims to determine the ethnography of communication on the sirih tanya traditions in malay customary marriage in the Rokan IV Koto sub-district, Rokan Hulu district. To achieve these goals then questions are raised how communicative siuation on the sirih tanya traditions in malay customary marriage, communicative events on the sirih tanya traditions in malay customary marriage and communicative actions  on the sirih tanya traditions in malay customary marriage.The author uses qualitative research methods, with ethnographic communication approaches. The research location was in Rokan IV Koto sub-district, Rokan Hulu regency. The time of research in October 2019 to January 2020. The research subjects consisted of 11 people, determined using purposive techniques. The object of ethnography of communication on the sirih tanya tradition in malay customary marriage. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews and literature study. Test the validity of the data with triangulation techniques and extension of participation.Research results explain that communicative situation on the sirih tanya tradition in malay customary marriage in the Rokan IV Koto sub-distrct, Rokan Hulu district that is moadatkan tepak sirih tanya situation, mouluokan tepak sirih tanya situation and monoangkan tepak sirih tanya situation. Then, communicative events on the sirih tanya tradition in malay customari marriage in the Rokan IV Koto sub-distrct, Rokan Hulu district covering : event type, event topic, function and purpose, settings, participants, message form, message content, sequence of actions, rules of interaction and interpretation norms. Next, comunicative actions, ninik mamak really understands the values contained in the custom of marriage. Abstract

Society Sub District of Kuantan Mudik sasuku prohibit marriage, because marriage is sasuku customs that should not be done by local people, but now has anyone done the sasuku marriage. The occurrence of marriage in the District of Kuantan Mudik sasuku raises a variety of meanings partner about why they do sasuku marriage. The purpose of this study was to determine the motive of the couple to marital sasuku, to know how to interpret marriage couples sasuku, to find a marriage partner communications experience sasuku in Sub District Kuantan Mudik District Kuantan Singingi Riau Province.This study uses qualitative research methods with the presentation of descriptive analysis. informants of this research is a marriage partner sasuku, traditional leaders, parents and those closest partner, chosen by purposive sampling. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documentation. technical validity of the data used in this study is an extension of participation and triangulation..The results obtained show that the motive for the couple to marital sasuku in Sub District Kuantan Mudik consists of motifs past the mutual love between both spouses, consent obtained from both parents, and promiscuity, while the motif future of the desire not excluded from tribes, accepted by society, and niniak mamak not hold a marriage certificate. Couple sasuku interpret marriage in the District of Kuantan Mudik as a wedding performed by couples of the same tribe, but legitimate customs violations by religion, customs penglanggaran who will be penalized, it is taboo to do. Sasuku marriage partner communications experience in the district of Kuantan Mudik consists of the positive experience they have never experienced and negative experiences that they often become the topic of conversation, in the event of their violation rate is often used as measures that are not exemplary

Abstract

Tradition Manjopuik Limau (picked limes) is a tradition-laden society norms and values in each set of the procession. Messages in a procession Manjopuik Limau (picked limes) that are transmitted through symbols, objects, musical instruments all have meaning. In Kenegerian Lubuk Jambi, Manjopuik Limau (picked limes) has always been an annual event for the community, that is exactly on the eve of Idul Fitri. The existence of a tradition Manjopuik Limau as local wisdom raises a variety of views and meanings of society against the tradition. Daripenelitian destination is to know the process of externalization, objectification, and internalization of society Kenegerian Lubuk Jambi.This study uses qualitative research methods with the presentation of descriptive analysis. The informants are perpetrators of tradition, community, traditional leaders, government and traditional leaders as a supporter informant, the informant election tradition by choosing actors who have participated in Limau Manjopuik more than three times and through other considerations. Informants selected by purposive sampling. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documentation. technical validity of the data used in this study is an extension of participation and triangulation. The results obtained suggests that the process of externalization of the government which supports the tradition Manjopuik Limau this tradition by making the national agenda. Externalization process of society that they assume Manjopuik Limau important to continue to be preserved as a valuable asset. Community considers this tradition as upara as well as an entertainment center. The process of objectification of society explains that the tradition Manjopuik Lemons has experienced a shift, but even so the community. There is an organization that continues to support the Nature Batobo the continuity of tradition Manjopuik Limau to socialize about how the importance of maintaining the existing potential of cultural assets. Kenegerian Lubuk Jambi community also participated in the success of every implementation Manjopuik Limau tradition by providing assistance in the form of material and equipment required and lend.
