Abstract

(Title: Axiological Reflections on Noam Chomsky's and M.A.K Halliday'sLanguage Theories). This article is meant to philosophically reflect Chomsky's and Halliday's language theories by focusing on the axiological dimension of their theoretical constructs, that is, what are the hidden values therein. To draw basic sketches of their theoretical constructs, their ontological and epistemological assumption are explored. Furthermore, Gruenberg's axiological scheme is adopted to discuss them. From the chains of reflection, it is found that in Chomsky's the positive pole of humanlanguage relation exists in language with internal, mental, logical-objective, formal, neutral, innate, certain, transparent, stable, alogarithmic and closed or un-contextual characteristics. The superior language is scientific, positivistic and logical language. Meanwhile, in Halliday's the positive pole exists in language with practical, external, semiotical, social, cultural, participatory, concrete, critical, dynamic, discursive, authentic, interpretative and open or contextual. The superior language is authentic language which is rich of signification.Key words: axiology, language theory, Chomsky, Halliday

Abstract

Indonesia is a pluralistic country. This plurality is indicated by the existence of ethnicities, races, customs, languages, and religions. Plurality does not only breed cooperation, but also conflict. The fact shows that religious plurality is one of the biggest challenges in Indonesia. This study aimed to explore the concept of value in the Īśā Upaniṣad verses which correlate with the plurality of religions in Indonesia. This research used a qualitative approach. Data collection in this study was carried out through document studies on primary and secondary data sources. The primary data sources in this study are Īśā Upaniṣad by Sri Aurobinda, The Principal Upanishads by S. Radhakrishnan, and The Upanisads: A Complete Guide by Cohen Signe, while secondary data sources include documents relevant to the object of the research material. The data analysis in this study used methodical steps of descriptive, interpretative, and holistic analysis, while the theory used is Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutic theory. The results of this study indicate that the verses in the Īśā Upaniṣad have a concept of value that is correlated with the plurality of religions in Indonesia: kinship, tolerance, and harmony; divinity, holiness, and glory; equality, justice, and non-discrimination; unity and oneness; brotherhood, empathy, love, and mutual respect.

Abstract

Abstract

Marital rape has become a hot topic of conversation in Indonesia in recent times, along with the ratification of the RUU-PKS. Some people consider it a crime; others consider it unreasonable, so they think that the RUU-PKS is unnecessary in Indonesia. Then, is it true that marital rape is a crime? Why do so many still think of it as making it up if it is true? This topic is essential because marital rape is a form of violence that seems to be legalized in society. Whereas, National Commission on Violence Against Women reported that the cases of marital rape are always more than 100 cases every year. By using the literature research method that refers to the descriptive-qualitative research model and using Kate Millett's sexual-political theory. That marital rape is a crime that falls into sexual violence because it has an element of coercion in sexual intercourse. In addition, people who disagree with the criminalization of marital rape are caused by the existence of a patriarchal mindset in the culture of Indonesian society. Inherited customs and misconceptions of religion influence this mindset taught long ago. This research aims to explain why the RUU-PKS could be a tool to educate the public about marital rape so that it can gradually eliminate marital rape and patriarchy in Indonesia.

Abstract

Female autonomy as humans, enforced by social norms and society is a result of a world that still follows traditionalpatriarchal paradigms. Males are still always luckier than women in a range of areas and this means that women do not receive the opportunity to use their autonomy to its optimal level. Violence and the violation of womens' rights are factors in the identification of injustices towards women. It is extremely difficult in the current environment for women to carry out activities based on their potential as part of the world. Philosophy gives us insight that should be used to solve the aforementioned problem. However in reality, philosophy itself is formed by patriarchal paradigms. ^s one of the roots of Indonesian philosophy, Javanese philosophy states suwarga nunut neraka katut dan kanca wingking (heaven goes by hell follows and friends are left behind) meaning that women are second class members of society and are weak. In conclusion, the weakness of philosophy is that it is not able to break through the patriarchal paradigm to build perceptions that are not gender bias.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the local wisdom and values of Nosarara Nosabatutu in the Kaili community in Central Sulawesi using an axiological perspective as an inspiration for religious harmony in Indonesia. This research employs a qualitative method in the field of philosophical axiology. The object of research material is the teaching of nosarara nosabatutu, and the formal object is the theory of objectivism of values. The analysis shows that family values are at the vital value level, while the value of unity is at the spiritual value level in the Schelerian hierarchy. Both values indicate spiritual sentiments and spiritual preferences. Nosarara teaches individuals to love others as their brothers, as reflected Kaili’s term of sararata le or sararata ia which means s/he is a family. Spiritual nosabatutu teaches one to take care of the family property as shared wealth and also keep other people's secrets because everyone in the Kaili ethnic group comes from the same womb and lives from the same treasure as a family.
