The qualitative approach used in this research is phenomenology, considering that this research examines religious phenomena descriptively. There are two sources of data in this research, namely primary data sources obtained through interviews with the Buddhist community in Selorejo Village, Ngunut District, Tulungagung Regency. The results of this research reveal that the Pattidāna ceremony contains several socio religious values, including social values, religious moderation values and spiritual values. Social values are reflected in joint efforts in preparing food, drinks and various types of offerings voluntarily. The value of religious moderation can be seen in the neighbors and relatives who come to help with the pattidānaprayer process, not only Buddhists, but also from various religions including Islam, Christianity and Catholicism. Spiritual values appear during the preparation, implementation and after completion of the pattidāna ceremony, giving rise to a strong belief that the power of the good deeds that have been carried out provide happiness in itself which is actually part of spiritual maturity.

Abstract

Humans live in interaction with culture and tradition, both those inherited from ancestors and those that have undergone acculturation. There is a spiritual touch between tradition and humans, which is the meaning given to the series of rituals that eventually evolve into a tradition. The relationship between humans and their God is then represented in a tradition, one of which is Wiwitan. This tradition, which has existed since ancient times, is a routine practice for farmers before starting their harvest, with the hope that their harvest will be abundant. This study is philosophical research that uses the method of philosophical reflection. This philosophical reflection involves an examination of key concepts in the thinking of Eliade, such as homo religiosus, hierophany, and the sacred and the profane. The researcher can explore how Eliade's ideas can be applied to understand the Wiwitan tradition. A review of the historical literature on Wiwitan, case studies, or anthropological literature also helps to understand the context of the evolution and relevance of the Wiwitan tradition through the ages. The results of this study show that the Wiwitan tradition is an important part of the Javanese farmer's life, which not only functions as a ceremonial rite before the harvest but also reflects their view of nature as a sacred space. In this ritual, farmers honor nature and Dewi Sri, the goddess of fertility, asking for blessings and protection. With the concept of homo religiosus as proposed by Mircea Eliade, Wiwitan reflects the basic human need to connect with the sacred, providing spiritual meaning amidst changing times.

The background of this study begins with a reflective question about why in one family Indonesian people of different religions can live in harmony and support each other as a family. Whereas in the social context of religious relations today faces a tense situation in which people of different religions are suspicious of each other and hostile to each other. This study tries to focus on the case of Javanese families who have the foundation of the value of living in harmony in one family with different religions from an axiological perspective. Based on the interpretation approach to social phenomena that are the focus of the study. The results of this study explain that the foundation of the value of harmony of Javanese people lies in the value of harmony, which is an integral principle of value in which Javanese who wants to live a harmonious life must maintain harmony not only with others but also with the surrounding nature. Therefore, many studies have shown that Javanese life always tries to maintain ‘equilibrium’ as a manifestation of life. The axiological dimension of the living value of Javanese harmony when meeting with external values occurs tug-of-war and it is not uncommon to negate each other and contest each other. In some cases, it is proven that the value of living in harmony can support a harmonious family life, getting along well with mutual respect, affection, and mutual help among family members.

Abstract

Marriage in Balinese society has traditionally been regarded as a sacred institution, deeply rooted in religious values and customary law. However, over the past few decades, significant shifts have occurred as a result of modernization, globalization, and broader social changes. One phenomenon that reflects this transformation is Sing Beling Sing Nganten, a vernacular expression increasingly circulated in contemporary Balinese discourse. The phrase refers to the social tendency wherein a couple formalizes their marriage only after the bride is already pregnant. This practice signifies a fundamental shift in the construction of marital sanctity, challenging earlier conceptions of marriage as a purely sacred and ritually-bound institution. It also suggests the emergence of a new paradigm in how marriage legitimacy is socially recognized within the Balinese context. This study employs a phenomenological approach to explore individual experiences and collective perceptions of the Sing Beling Sing Nganten phenomenon. Utilizing qualitative methods primarily in-depth interviews and participant observation, it seeks to understand how this practice is experienced, interpreted, and negotiated in everyday life, particularly by women. The central objective of this research is to analyze how Sing Beling Sing Nganten operates as a social practice that contributes to the shifting values surrounding the institution of marriage, specifically in relation to its perceived sacredness. Findings from the study indicate that this phenomenon is not merely a reflection of value transformation but also constitutes a strategic adaptation to the increasing social and economic pressures faced by individuals and families. The normalization of this practice in urban Balinese settings is shaped by the intersection of traditional cultural norms and modern pragmatic outlooks. As such, this research offers not only a phenomenological account of an evolving cultural practice but also a critical reflection on the broader transformation of value systems in contemporary Balinese society.

Abstract

The increasing development of technology has raised concerns among some people regarding its impact on the relationship between humans and nature. This study examines the anti-digitalization attitudes of the Baduy Dalam community as a deliberate effort to maintain harmony between humans and nature. Utilizing a phenomenological approach, this research explores the philosophical foundations of the Baduy Dalam’s resistance to modern technology, focusing on their adherence to traditional ecological practices. The findings of this study indicate that the Baduy Dalam community’s way of life, by rejecting digitalization, offers a unique model for rethinking the role of technology in modern society. This research contributes to a broader philosophical discourse about the relationship between humans, technology, ecology, and indigenous knowledge systems, suggesting that the anti-digitalization practices of the Baduy Dalam serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining harmony between humans and nature amid rapid technological changes. Keywords: Anti-Digitalization, Human and Nature Harmony, Baduy Dalam Community, Environmental Conservation, Cultural Tradition

Abstract

The role of women in caregiving, particularly for toddlers, is essential. The recent surge in cases of violence highlights that the need for proper care often remains unmet. In 2023, Databoks recorded 24,158 cases of violence against children. A common reason behind this phenomenon is the lack or absence of adequate care from parents. Economic factors, socio-cultural demands, and a lack of awareness regarding the importance of caregiving for children influence this lack of parental care. This study aims to examine the existence of women in child caregiving based on Simone de Beauvoir’s perspective as a means to prevent violence against children. The research adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing a literature review as the main method. The data sources are from credible literature, including books, journals, articles, conference proceedings, and reports. Simone de Beauvoir’s philosophical ideas are interpreted by using a hermeneutic method. The study is expected to produce a relevant and comprehensive understanding and critique of the concept of women’s existence in Simone de Beauvoir’s existentialist philosophy concerning child caregiving in order to prevent violence against children. Key words : Child Care, Existence, Human Philosophy, Women.

Abstract

Sing beling sing nganten, literally meaning “not pregnant, not married,” is a social phenomenon widely found in Balinese society, particularly in urban areas. This practice implicitly reflects symbolic power rooted in social habitus and gendered expectations related to fertility, marriage, and women's roles. This study aims to examine how Pierre Bourdieu’s concepts of habitus and symbolic power operate in the normalization of this practice. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews and participatory observation involving 15 informants, including women, men, traditional leaders, and scholars. The data were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to explore participants’ lived experiences, and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to uncover the linguistic mechanisms that reproduce symbolic domination. The findings reveal that sing beling sing nganten functions as a social practice that disciplines women’s bodies through everyday language, social expectations, and religious narratives. Symbolic power legitimizes fertility as a prerequisite for marriage and reinforces patriarchal values through discourses perceived as “natural.” This study contributes to the understanding of gender norm reproduction in modern contexts and suggests the need for future research to explore possibilities for social transformation.

Abstract

Social media represents one of the most widely utilised platforms across the globe. This medium provides numerous conveniences for individuals to interact with one another, whether in close proximity or at a distance, among acquaintances and strangers alike. However, these conveniences do not invariably yield positive outcomes; rather, they can also entail significant disadvantages. A pressing concern is that a considerable number of cases of marital discord in Indonesia can be attributed to infidelity facilitated by social media. This study aims to assess the impact of social media usage on the quality of life and marital harmony among families in Semarang. The methodology employed in this research is quantitative, with the subjects comprising married couples residing in Semarang. Data collection was performed via a survey, utilising questionnaires administered to 131 respondents in the area. Data analysis was conducted through validity tests, reliability tests, and regression analysis employing SEM PLS software. The data was subsequently examined through the framework of Gabriel Marcel's philosophy of humanity. Marcel's philosophy is pivotal in reinstating fundamental values that define human relationships, thereby ensuring that marital connections are not merely mechanical and technocratic. This study demonstrates a significant influence of social media usage on marital harmony among families in Semarang. Consequently, collaboration among various stakeholders is essential to raise awareness regarding the paradoxes associated with social media usage. Furthermore, it is imperative to enhance couples’ understanding of the purpose of marriage and how spouses can adapt to technological advancements to ensure that family resilience remains robust. This study is positioned at a technology readiness level (TRL) of 3, involving the development of a conceptual model aimed at improving marital harmony.
