Abstract

The phenomenon of violence against women in the online world is not only facilitated but has shifted to exist with the help of digital technology. Online Gender-Based Violence (KBGO) is prone to attack women, considering that patriarchal patterns and power relations are the main problems. One form Act of Gender-Based Violence (KBGO) that enlivens the social media universe on Twitter is the banning of illicit fatwas by Saudi Arabian clerics on the use of Breast Holders (BH) or Bras in front of other men who are not their mahram, which had become a hot topic and was disseminated massively on social media Twitter. This research uses qualitative methods through interview techniques accompanied by several supporting sources such as documentation and literature studies. This study aims to bring other alternatives to the Islamic perspective that are able to change, make the perpetrator's perspective aware, and increase public awareness of the real form of KBGO. KUPI (Congress of Indonesian Women Ulama) Indonesia is a network of female ulama in Indonesia, which initiated a religious interpretation movement that protects women's groups, to view and respond critically to the existence of fatwas and discourses of expectations for the use of Breast Holders (BH) or Bras in front of other men who are not their mahram. The results of this study include first, Online-Based Gender Violence (KBGO) occurs because of power relations against women, where there is a hierarchical, unequal relationship and dependence on social status and culture, as well as the knowledge that gives rise to more than one party's power over the other. Others secondly, KUPI strongly rejects the phenomenon of online-based gender violence (KBGO) and argues that the fatwa prohibiting the use of bras for women in front of men who are not their mahrams and widely distributed on Twitter is included in the category of online-based gender violence. (KBGO), as well as KUPI discourse, any religious fatwa must be viewed and treated critically and constructively, especially the fatwa concerning and discussing women's fundamental rights in various fields of life, whether religious, political, social, or cultural.

Abstract

Theology is one of the critical factors for the survival of Muslims. However, with the shift in all aspects included in the lives of Muslims, theology cannot adjust or even solve all the problems occurring in the body of Islam. This research aimed at discussing and studying the theology of Leftist Islam in the thought of Hassan Hanafi to obtain its authenticity. The method used in this study was the historical-philosophical method. This historical method is to describe the history and development of Islamic theology. In comparison, the philosophical method examines a character's thoughts and analyzes the thoughts being studied. The results of this study explained that Leftist Islam is an idea, concept, and new theology initiated by Hassan Hanafi in response to the challenges of the West. In the Leftist Islam, Hassan Hanafi has three crucial elements, namely revitalizing the classical scientific tradition, opposing Western civilization, and analyzing the reality of Muslims.

Abstract

[The purpose of this study is to explain the two thoughts of Islamic feminist figures who are against the practice of polygamy. This research uses a descriptive analysis method with a feminist approach. Data collection was carried out using a literature study. The data analysis technique used is the theory of Shulamit Reinhartz, namely deconstructing the dominant way of reading. The results of this study are that the two figures agree on several things, including understanding the verses of polygamy, of course, cannot be separated from the verses related to Q.S. An-Nisa verse 3, polygamy is a form of discrimination against women, and justice in polygamy will never be achieved even if efforts have been made. However, the two figures have differences in concluding the practice of polygamy. Musdah stated that the practice of polygamy is unlawful because it causes more harm than profit. Meanwhile, Asghar Ali Engineer allows the practice of polygamy but with the consideration of upholding justice for orphans and widows and according to what was done by the Prophet Muhammad SAW. However, it should be remembered that the condition for polygamy that a man cannot fulfill is to be fair. Therefore, the practice of monogamy is a form of marriage that achieves justice and prosperity. ]

Abstract

This article examines the dynamics of religion in the era of globalization based on perspectives outlined in the book Living Religions by Mary Pat Fisher and Robin Rinehart. Globalization has significantly influenced the practice and role of religion in modern society. On one hand, globalization creates opportunities for religious pluralism, cross-cultural dialogue, and the dissemination of universal values. On the other hand, it also presents challenges such as radicalization, interfaith conflicts, and the process of secularization. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, this article explores how religion functions as both an element of cultural and spiritual identity and a force for social transformation within an ever-changing global landscape. It also discusses the interaction between religion and politics, the role of religion in conflict resolution, and the importance of interfaith dialogue amidst technological advancements. The analysis reveals that religion remains relevant as a means of providing meaning and stability in the globalization era. Moreover, religion holds great potential to serve as a bridge for fostering harmony amidst diversity. Living Religions offers comprehensive insights into how religions adapt to global changes while maintaining the core values of each tradition.

Abstract

This study explores the status and role of women within Sikh doctrine, aiming to contribute to and enrich academic discussions on the intersection of religious doctrine and gender studies. Using a qualitative approach that focuses on religion and gender, the research employs a library-based methodology, analyzing various sources and relevant prior studies. The findings demonstrate that women in Sikhism are granted equal status to men, rooted in the doctrine that emphasizes an intimate relationship between humans and the divine, where gender holds no significance in the connection to God. Moreover, the study delves into human relationships as shaped by behaviors, attitudes, and societal norms during the Sikh Gurus' era, illustrating the ideal dynamics between men and women. Despite Sikh teachings of equality, women in the Sikh community still face challenges in accessing leadership roles, as cultural and historical narratives often prioritize male dominance. The contributions of Sikh women have been historically marginalized, leaving subsequent generations with limited role models. This research offers both theoretical insights into Sikhism and gender and practical implications for encouraging the Sikh community, particularly men, to uphold Guru Nanak’s vision of gender equality.

Abstract

In the era of globalization, the complexity of social, economic, and environmental challenges has resulted in the decline of the role of traditional religious institutions, as well as the emergence of secularism and religious pluralism. This study aims to reveal the response of religion to the phenomena of secularization, conflict, and economic inequality in the 21st century with a qualitative approach through literature studies. The results of the study indicate that secularism has become a contemporary issue, with a decline in religious affiliation among the younger generation, especially in Europe; however, projections for 2050 show a resurgence of religious adherents and an important role for religion in society. In addition, increasing religious diversity creates challenges and tensions between communities, but many religions respond by building solidarity through dialogue and peace campaigns. Amidst the increasing economic gap, religions respond by reviewing relevant teachings and principles, such as the simplicity movement that combines spiritual values with ways of earning a living, ethical education in business, and playing an active role in anti-poverty campaigns and other social issues. This paper adds insight into the role of religion in building sustainable social solidarity and economic ethics amidst contemporary challenges.

Abstract

This article critiques McGuire’s (2008) work on Spirituality and Materiality: Why Bodies Matter? in the book Lived Religion: Faith and Practice in Everyday Life. In her work, McGuire challenges the traditional Western dichotomy between spirituality and materiality, which places the two in a binary opposition. She argues that spiritual experiences are closely connected to the body and physical environment. This article aims to analyze the main strengths of McGuire’s work, particularly its strong empirical foundation through qualitative research methods, such as interviews and observations, which enhance the credibility of her arguments. However, several weaknesses are identified in this study. First, McGuire does not clearly define spirituality, leading to ambiguous interpretations. Second, her generalization that material aspects are always involved in achieving spirituality overlooks the possibility of non-material approaches, such as meditation or introspection. Third, the work neglects psychological factors that influence individual spiritual experiences, such as trauma or motivation. Fourth, the concept of materiality is problematic, as she does not adequately explain how it leads to spiritual experiences. Lastly, McGuire’s in some cases’ use of her personal experiences as a basis for her arguments could introduce bias, as spirituality is highly subjective and varies for each individual. This study employs a qualitative approach to provide an in-depth analysis of McGuire’s work and relevant literature on spirituality and materiality, focusing on how different traditions define and practice spirituality, particularly about pathways that emphasize non-material aspects in achieving spiritual experiences.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of digital da'wah in Indonesia using the theoretical framework of Fisher and Rinehart's Living Religions. The research applies a qualitative method through online observations and literature reviews. The findings reveal that digital da'wah has successfully created new spaces for the dissemination of Islam by adopting a more inclusive approach and adapting to technological advancements. Contrary to previous assumptions that Islam would lag behind modernity, this study demonstrates that Islamic preaching in the digital world enriches perspectives on religious teachings and enables Islamic messages to reach diverse audiences, particularly younger generations. However, this study also highlights the challenges that arise due to the lack of caution in delivering da'wah content, which can lead to controversy in the digital sphere. This research contributes to the development of a digital da'wah concept that responds to contemporary changes and emphasizes the importance of ethics in spreading religious messages online. Furthermore, it provides new insights into how Islamic da'wah can persist and evolve in the digital era without losing its core teachings
