Abstract

Theology is one of the critical factors for the survival of Muslims. However, with the shift in all aspects included in the lives of Muslims, theology cannot adjust or even solve all the problems occurring in the body of Islam. This research aimed at discussing and studying the theology of Leftist Islam in the thought of Hassan Hanafi to obtain its authenticity. The method used in this study was the historical-philosophical method. This historical method is to describe the history and development of Islamic theology. In comparison, the philosophical method examines a character's thoughts and analyzes the thoughts being studied. The results of this study explained that Leftist Islam is an idea, concept, and new theology initiated by Hassan Hanafi in response to the challenges of the West. In the Leftist Islam, Hassan Hanafi has three crucial elements, namely revitalizing the classical scientific tradition, opposing Western civilization, and analyzing the reality of Muslims.

Abstract

In many myths and legends, Nyai Roro Kidul is believed to be a semi-divine being or a beautiful princess with mystical qualities. Known as the Queen of the Southern Sea (Indian Ocean), she embodies a unique fusion of local spiritual beliefs, Hindu-Buddhist influences, and, later, Islamic cultural integration. Her narrative not only reflects the Javanese people’s interaction with nature and the supernatural world but also encapsulates deeper meanings related to power, gender, and the relationship between humans and the divine. Those who seek wealth often glorify Nyai Roro Kidul, even if it means promising the souls of family members as an offering. The story of Nyai Roro Kidul, believed by many traditional Javanese, remains controversial today. Some believe in her and even claim to have encountered her, while many others consider it just folklore. In reality, belief in Nyai Roro Kidul is not confined to indigenous communities but also extends to modern intellectuals, especially Javanese mystics. Fisher and Rinehart discuss important aspects of cultural diversity leading to syncretism in detail, such as the reliance on oral traditions among the people. Likewise, the mythology of Nyai Roro Kidul has been passed down orally through various stories, making her narrative widespread and a common feature of the belief systems among communities along Java’s southern coast as part of a "living religion" from the perspective of indigenous sacred ways.

Abstract

This study comprehensively evaluates de-radicalisation and counter-radicalism programs administered by the provincial branches of PW Fatayat NU in West Java and East Java, Indonesia. Employing a qualitative field research methodology, the study integrates data from document analysis, participant observation, semi-structured interviews with key organisational leaders and partners, and focus group discussions with diverse stakeholders. The analysis is framed by Kinsley’s seven organisational effectiveness dimensions—structure, strategy, systems, skills, style, staff, and shared values—offering a multidimensional perspective on program implementation and outcomes. Results reveal that while both provincial branches have established foundational organisational structures and strategic orientations conducive to program delivery, significant differences exist in system utilisation, professional capacity, and advocacy effectiveness. The West Java branch is characterised by strong interdepartmental coordination, effective communication channels, and well-defined governance structures. In contrast, the East Java branch faces challenges with strategic impact and resource mobilisation. Both branches demonstrate active stakeholder engagement through knowledge sharing, social reintegration, and policy advocacy. The study identifies critical constraints, including limited professional expertise, inconsistent communication practices, and insufficient collaborative networks, which impede optimal program performance. This research contributes to the growing scholarship on countering violent extremism (CVE) by foregrounding the importance of professional organizational management and inclusive multistakeholder engagement. It further underscores the imperative of gender-sensitive approaches and continuous capacity development to enhance program sustainability. These findings offer actionable insights for policymakers, civil society organisations, and government agencies committed to strengthening the efficacy and resilience of counter-radicalism interventions in complex socio-political environments.

Abstract

Abstract

AbstractThe problem of sexual violence against women cannot be separated from the discourse on the body. This is because the targets placed on perpetrators of sexual violence include women's bodies.  Sexual violence against women is preceded by the meaning of the woman's body itself. The symbol for the female body as the other or something that is considered non-human is produced by the construction of a collective power called the patriarchal system. This system makes the female body considered as something inferior, must be conquered, and needs to be disciplined. Sexual violence is a kind of archetype in which women's bodies are disciplined in a practical way.

Abstract

This study explores the status and role of women within Sikh doctrine, aiming to contribute to and enrich academic discussions on the intersection of religious doctrine and gender studies. Using a qualitative approach that focuses on religion and gender, the research employs a library-based methodology, analyzing various sources and relevant prior studies. The findings demonstrate that women in Sikhism are granted equal status to men, rooted in the doctrine that emphasizes an intimate relationship between humans and the divine, where gender holds no significance in the connection to God. Moreover, the study delves into human relationships as shaped by behaviors, attitudes, and societal norms during the Sikh Gurus' era, illustrating the ideal dynamics between men and women. Despite Sikh teachings of equality, women in the Sikh community still face challenges in accessing leadership roles, as cultural and historical narratives often prioritize male dominance. The contributions of Sikh women have been historically marginalized, leaving subsequent generations with limited role models. This research offers both theoretical insights into Sikhism and gender and practical implications for encouraging the Sikh community, particularly men, to uphold Guru Nanak’s vision of gender equality.
