Abstract

Purpose: This study attempted to confirm leptospirosis in rats and ectoparasites in the working area of Tanjung Perak Port and the working region of Gresik Port Health Office of Port of Surabaya Class I. Methods: This study is a descriptive study using a cross-sectional approach. The samples were rats. The rats are identified to determine the type, then shaved to take ectoparasites and dissected to take the kidneys. Testing of pathogenic Leptospira bacteria using the ii-PCR method. The study lasted from October 2022 to February 2023. Results: The rat species were Rattus norvegicus. Based on PCR examination, pathogenic Leptospira bacteria were found in the kidneys of rats Rattus norvegicus. Rattus norvegicus was infected with the pathogenic Leptospira bacteria in the Port of Tanjung Perak working area at 56,67% and in the Port of Gresik working area at 43,75%. The ectoparasites found are fleas, lice, and mites. Both study sites did not find Pathogenic Leptospira bacteria in ectoparasites (fleas and mites). Fleas infestation of Rattus norvegicus in the working area of Tanjung Perak Port increased by 80% and in the work area of Gresik Port by 68,75%. Conclusion: The pathogenic Leptospira bacteria was found in both research sites in Rattus norvegicus's kidneys but not in ectoparasites (fleas and mites). Flea infestation is also high in both research locations.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the resistance status of Aedes aegypti (Ae. aegypti) to temephos at Dumai International Seaport, Indonesia, and to identify the biochemical mechanisms underlying this resistance to support more effective vector control strategies. Methods: An experimental study was conducted using larval bioassays at four concentrations of temephos (0.005–0.625 mg/L) to determine susceptibility levels in field-collected mosquito populations from operational and industrial zones. A laboratory strain was used as a control. Additionally, biochemical assays were performed to measure α-esterase and monooxygenase activity, which are potential indicators of metabolic resistance. Results: Larval bioassays revealed reduced susceptibility to temephos in both operational and industrial populations compared to the laboratory strain. The resistance ratios were 9.75 and 11.75, respectively, indicating moderate to high resistance. Biochemical analysis showed significantly increased α-esterase activity in both field populations (p<0.000), while the seaport population also exhibited elevated monooxygenase activity (p<0.020), suggesting enzyme-mediated resistance mechanisms. Conclusion: The presence of temephos resistance in Ae. aegypti at Dumai Seaport underscores the need to revise existing insecticide use practices. Integrating biochemical surveillance and diverse control measures within the framework of integrated vector management is essential to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of vector control programs.

Abstract

Nyamuk adalah vektor dari banyak penyakit. Salah satu penyakit yang diperantarai oleh nyamuk adalah filariasis limfatik yang ditularkan oleh spesies Culex quinquefasciatus di daerah perkotaan dan semi-perkotaan. Salah satu cara untuk mengendalikan populasi nyamuk adalah dengan menggunakan insektisida. Pestisida sintetis dapat berdampak buruk pada tubuh manusia, sehingga insektisida alami atau yang lebih aman dapat menjadi solusi berkelanjutan. Kecombrang (Etlingera elatior) diketahui mengandung komponen insektisida dan telah diteliti sebagai larvasida pada spesies nyamuk lainnya. Dalam penelitian ini, ekstrak etanol dari daun E. elatior digunakan untuk menyelidiki potensi efek larvasida terhadap larva Cx. quinquefasciatus. Konsentrasi ekstrak yang bervariasi mulai dari 0,1 hingga 10000 ppm ekstrak etanol daun E. elatior diperkenalkan kepada larva Cx. quinquefasciatus di dalam air selama 24 jam di bawah kondisi laboratorium yang terstandarisasi sebagai uji awal. Pengujian lebih lanjut dilakukan dengan konsentrasi ekstrak bertingkat mulai dari 600 hingga 6750 ppm dan kemudian mortalitas larva dinilai untuk masing-masing konsentrasi. Menggunakan analisis probit, didapatkan LC50 dan LC90 dari ekstrak daun kecombrang adalah 1767.591 ppm dan 6744.573 ppm. Ekstrak etanol dari daun E. elatior memiliki efek larvasida terhadap larva Cx. quinquefasciatus dalam kondisi laboratorium, dengan peningkatan konsentrasi ekstrak menyebabkan peningkatan mortalitas, namun dosis larvasida tersebut masih belum mencapai dosis yang  efisien untuk penggunaan sehari-hari.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Malaria adalah penyakit tular vektor yang masih menjadi masalah utama kesehatan masyarakat di Kecamatan Lamboya Sumba Barat. Analisis spasial diperlukan untuk mengetahui sebaran kasus malaria, penentuan wilayah receptive dan vulnerable.Tujuan: Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pola sebaran kasus malaria, tipe habitat jentik, pemetaan wilayah receptive dan vulnerable dan pengaruh faktor risiko di Kecamatan LamboyaMetode: Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan unmatched case control. Besar sampel masing-masing 36 kontrol responden positif dan negatif malaria Januari 2023. Data diperoleh melalui e-SISMAL (Elektronik Sistem Informasi Surveilans Malaria) Puskesmas Kabukarudi dan Klinik Malaria. Analisis data meliputi analisis spasial dengan QGIS, univariat dan bivariat dengan uji chi-square. Wilayah receptive ditentukan berdasarkan temuan kasus malaria dan habitiat positif jentik, vulnerable wilayah tanpa kasus namun berbatasan langsung dengan wilayah receptiveHasil: Sebaran malaria berpola random dekat habitat nyamuk radius 500m ada 25 kasus dan radius 1000m ada 6 kasus. Habitat positif jentik pada sawah, mata air, muara, sungai, genangan dan kubangan. Lima wilayah receptive pada Patiala Bawa, Palamoko, Lamboya Bawa, Ringurara dan Watukarere. Tiga wilayah vulnerable Wailibo, Kabukarudi dan Rajaka. Hasil identifikasi nyamuk ditemukan An.Vagus, An.Limosus, An.Subpictus, An. Indefinitus dan An.Annularis.Kesimpulan: Pola sebaran malaria menyebar mendekati habitat nyamuk. Ditemukannya nyamuk potensial vektor malaria dan habitat positif jentik menunjukkan bahwa di Kecamatan Lamboya berpotensi tinggi terjadinya penularan malaria.

Abstract

Community leaders must understand their role in controlling COVID-19, such as monitoring misleading information and providing socialization, education, protection, monitoring, and evaluation activities in the community, due to the numerous limitations of local governments in managing large populations during this crisis. This study aimed to describe the role of Yogyakarta community leaders in increasing community engagement in managing the Covid-19 pandemic. This study uses a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach, and the study sample includes all community leaders as many as 31 people at the levels of neighborhood and hamlet. The data analysis process uses frequency distribution values. Results showed that most community leaders had not been maximal in implementing the following COVID-19 prevention activities in the community: educating the community regarding isolation and self-quarantine, eliminating the negative stigma in suspected, probable, and confirmed cases of COVID-19 in medical personnel, and inviting the community to participate in providing hand-washing facilities in public places and facilities to assist underprivileged/elderly people who live alone. Leaders have also not been maximal in planning the needs of people who carry out self-isolation and appointing volunteers and community representatives to prepare and distribute food, personal hygiene equipment, and logistics. Most of the leaders only use billboards as a means of education. Some supporting activities have not been maximized, namely removing the stigma/anxiety in the presence of people who work as medical personnel. The role of the leader is not optimal in providing supporting infrastructure in implementing health protocols, and removal of the social stigma must be improved through risk communication assistance and empowerment.
