Abstract

Poverty among farmers remains a structural challenge in agricultural development in Indonesia; low productivity and limited access to information technology are the main problems.  Addressing this issue is crucial for national food security and sustainable rural livelihoods. This study aims to examine the profile of poor farmers and analyze the effect of internet use on the risk of poverty among farmers in East Java Province. The data comes from the March 2023 National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) microdata, comprising 21.368 individual observations. The analysis method used is binary logistic regression due to the binary classification of the dependent variable, with model segregation based on urban and rural areas, implemented using Stata software. The results show that poor farmers generally come from the food crop subsector and are concentrated in certain areas such as Madura Island.  Digital literacy and internet utilization are still very low, while access to formal financing is also limited.  Internet access significantly reduces the poverty risk, with users being 2.72 times more likely to be non-poor, especially in urban areas. This study recommends different policy approaches between urban and rural areas to realize inclusive and adaptive agriculture in the digital era.

Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of Carbon Emission (CE), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Return on Equity (ROE), and Leverage on bank lending to manufacturing and mining companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, using the Panel Data Regression Method. With a sample of 15 companies from 2018 to 2022, the results of the study show that CE and CSR do not have a significant effect on bank lending. On the contrary, ROE and Leverage have a significant effect, where ROE has a negative impact and Leverage has a positive impact on bank loans. These findings conclude that banks in Indonesia are still more focused on financial fundamentals in assessing corporate loan applications, without considering environmental and social risks. This study underlines the importance of innovation in credit structures and loan products to include considerations of environmental and social risks in the future, in order to achieve decarbonization targets and the Paris Agreement.

Abstract

Indonesia, with the largest Muslim population in the world, holds great potential in developing a sharia-based economy, including halal tourism. However, rural areas such as Tegalsari Village in Malang Regency have not fully optimized their local natural resources for halal tourism development. A community service program aimed to enhance community understanding of halal tourism and its economic opportunities. The program targeted village officials, local entrepreneurs, and youth representatives, employing a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. The main activity consisted of a one-day socialization involving 20 participants. Interactive discussions were also conducted to explore certification procedures, sharia-based economic practices, and village asset management. Reflection was carried out using a Likert-scale questionnaire to measure knowledge improvement, while evaluation was conducted through a pretest-posttest design analyzed using the Paired T-Test. The results indicated a significant increase in participants’ understanding of halal tourism concepts and local potential. Participants recognized that halal tourism is both religiously meaningful and strategically important to enhance village competitiveness, strengthen the local economy, and empower MSMEs. This program highlights that community involvement and knowledge dissemination are essential first steps in building sustainable and participatory halal tourism in rural areas.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are a key focus of Indonesia’s economic development efforts. In Malang City, while financial inclusion has reached 86.53%, the level of financial literacy remains relatively low at 69.43%. This study explores how both general and digital financial literacy, along with the use of digital payment systems, affect MSMEs' ability to access formal financial services. It also examines the influence of social media in shaping the relationship between financial literacy, digital literacy, digital payment usage, and financial inclusion among MSMEs in the region. Furthermore, the research assesses whether social media acts as a moderating variable in these relationships. Adopting a quantitative research design, data were collected from 380 MSME owners through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the Smart PLS (Partial Least Squares) method. The findings indicate that general financial literacy, digital financial literacy, and digital payments significantly contribute to enhancing financial inclusion, thereby improving MSMEs' access to formal financial services. However, the moderating role of social media remains limited, suggesting the need for more strategic and effective social media engagement to better integrate digital competencies, financial literacy, and digital payment practices. Ultimately, this research provides valuable insights into strengthening MSMEs and introduces a digital finance framework to advance financial inclusion.

Abstract

This study explores the influence of infrastructural and demographic determinants on the adoption of FinTech in Indonesia using Global Findex 2021 data. The binary dependent variable is an indicator of mobile money or digital payments usage. Probit and Logit models are applied to examine such variables as employment, income, education, age, gender, rural residence, phone possession, and internet usage. Results show that education, employment, gender, mobile phone, and internet usage significantly and positively affect adoption, but income and age do not. Logit model fits better as per fit statistics and residual analysis. The results confirm the need for inclusive infrastructure and digital literacy to drive financial inclusion.
