Abstract

Tujuan pelaksanaan pengabdian ini adalah untuk memberikan pengalaman kepada guru-guru dalam panggunaan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi, khususnya yang berkaitan dengan Microsoft Excel. Melalui pelatihan ini diharapkan guru di SMA Swasta Kampus lebih memahami kegunaan Microsoft Excel, agar tidak salah dalam menggunakan software Microsoft Excel, dan menambah pengetahuan serta wawasan dalam belajar mengolah data sehingga segala bentuk data dapat dipergunakan dengan baik. Langkah-langkah yang dilakukan dalam pelaksanaan pengabdian ini adalah 1) survei, 2) pemantapan dan penentuan sasaran, 3) pelaksanaan pelatihan. Pelaksanaan pelatihan ini dilakukan secara langsung (offline) di gedung SMA Swasta Kampus Padangsidimpuan dalam waktu enam jam.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul Komunikasi Verbal Pergeseran Kata Sapaan padaMasyarakat Angkola di Kota Padangsidimpuan, yang bertujuan untuk : 1.Mendeskripsikan kata sapaan yang digunakan pada masyarakat Angkola diKota Padangsidimpuan, 2. Menemukan bentuk kata sapaan apa saja yangsudah mulai bergeser pada masyarakat Angkola di Kota Padangsidimpuan, 3.Menemukan faktor – faktor yang mempengaruhi pergeseran kata sapaan padamasyarakat Angkola di Kota Padangsidimpuan. Teori yang digunakan dalampenelitian ini adalah teori Kata Sapaan menurut Fasold dengan konsep katasapaan Angkola menurut Siregar, teori Ranah Penggunaan Bahasa menurut2Fishman dan teori Etnografi komunikasi menurut Hymes, dan faktor-faktorpergeseran bahasa menurut Fasold. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitianini adalah metode kualitatif dengan mengadopsi teori Jane Richie. Hasil yangdiperoleh setelah data dianalisis adalah kata sapaan yang mengalamipergeseran dalam bahasa Angkola yang tertinggi adalah pada kelompok anakremaja yang usianya berkisar dari 12 sampai 25 tahun, faktor-faktor yangmenyebabkan kata sapaan tersebut mengalami pergeseran adalah prestise,urbanisasi, pemilihan bahasa dan transmisi bahasa.

Abstract

From the researchers’ personal experience, writing necessitates more abilities, and some struggle to string words together to convey the meaning of what they want to say. Lack of interest due to the monotony of learning; some people, in particular,are more interested in learning through imagery rather than listening. If we educatestudents through animated films, they will be more engaged. Descriptive text isdifficult enough to learn by the students (Putri, 2019). They will try to describe manythings they find in the movie they have just watched. The researcher's aim is thatstudents can write appropriate descriptive text compositions faster than before.They can describe things more freely than usual and hope to contribute to a greaterinterest in writing. So here one of formulating of the problem in this research How far is the improvement of the students’ skill in writing descriptive textafter they are taught by using Animated Short Film? . Writing is one of the skills that must be learned and mastered. Writing is the expression of oneselfin various media through words or thoughts. (Safitri, 2019). A descriptive text attempts toprovide a detailed description of how something or someone appears (Djamdjuri &Hadi, 2021). According to (Rahmadani & Nurhaeni, 2019), Descriptive text is a type oftext seen from two sides, namely from its organizational structure and function. Anything, including items, locations, creatures, and more, can seem like this thing. Animated short films are also based on the violence ofcontextual comics. Coupled with the ability of young children to distinguish fantasyfrom good and bad reality, it can also eliminate the possibility that children willexert the attraction shown in animated short films on other people in real life. In this research, the researcher used the form of action research asstated by Wallace (1998) that is a kind of research which is done systematicallyin collecting the data on the lesson and analyzing it in order to come tosome decisions about what the future lesson should be. Using animated short film in teaching can improve the students’ skill in writing descriptive text to the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 6 Padangsidimpuan Padangsidimpuan in 2022 - 2023 academic year. It can be seen from the value of students mean score of the students from 61.25 become 80.79

Abstract

This study aims to explore the impact of using educational games on improving students' vocabulary mastery in learning English and Japanese. Using a quantitative and experimental approach, this study involved students who were learning both foreign languages, both at secondary school and college levels. The research sample was selected using a purposive sampling method, and the instruments used included pre-test, post-test, observation, and questionnaire. The results of the analysis showed a significant increase in students' vocabulary mastery after interacting with educational games, with a p value <0.05. In addition, observations showed that students were more active and motivated in learning using educational games compared to conventional methods. The questionnaire revealed that the majority of students felt more confident in using new vocabulary and were more motivated to learn. These findings are in line with previous studies showing that gamification elements in educational games increase student engagement and motivation. However, the effectiveness of educational games can vary depending on the type of game used and the individual learning preferences of students. This study concludes that educational games can be an effective learning tool in improving vocabulary mastery, provided that they are adjusted to students' preferences and learning styles. Further studies are recommended to explore the most influential gamification elements and combine educational games with traditional methods for more optimal results.

Abstract

For a variety of urgent reasons, opportunities to cheat in order to conduct scientific work continue to be developed. As a result, academics, particularly undergraduates, are prone to plagiarism. It is possible to teach pupils how to utilize the Zotero application. The goal is to improve pupils' writing skills by using the Zotero application. The service implementation team's strategy includes socializing and training based on their area of competence. For one day in a row, intriguing activities are carried out. The training method is implemented in stages, beginning with planning and concluding with evaluation.More instructions are offered, beginning with the generation of material and progressing to practical tasks. The course outcomes reveal that students who participated in the training increased their skills using the Zotero program. This is evidenced by the evaluation findings, which revealed that 85% of the students enrolled in the program were becoming more proficient in handling references and selecting the appropriate references to include in scientific articles.

Abstract

This research was conducted in increasing the students’ English comprehension. They are not English department the students. The using of Hello English Application Based on Android Smartphone available in online or offline, the students can use it in everywhere. The research use action research. Plans made such as the use of Android-based Hello English Application and research instruments as learning support. This action research starts from planning, acting, reflecting and evaluating. It consists of six meetings with 3 cycles. The implementation of learning goes well with starting activities, core activities (introduction and use of Hello English Application(and closing activities (giving posttest question). The first cycle, the students still confused with the app, it might them got low score. At the second cycle, the researcher gave the video tutorial about the app, therefore the students more relax and they got good score. In the third cycle, the students enjoyed with the app and got better score and brave follow the online match in the app. The result showed that there is improvement on the students’ comprehension with English in every meeting. This showed that the use of Hello English Application has an effect of increasing the students’ competency in learning English.

Abstract

The rapid evolution of the 21st century has brought significant shifts in the way English language education is approached and delivered. This study explores innovative strategies aimed at empowering language learners to meet contemporary communicative demands and to develop essential 21st-century skills. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive method, the research examines five major strategies: technology integration, project-based learning, storytelling and creative expression, learner autonomy, and gamification. Findings reveal that these strategies not only enhance linguistic proficiency but also promote higher-order thinking skills, learner engagement, creativity, collaboration, and digital literacy. Furthermore, the study highlights the evolving role of educators as facilitators and mentors in creating dynamic, inclusive learning environments. The implementation of these approaches is found to significantly contribute to more effective, relevant, and empowering English language education. This paper concludes that a transformative shift in pedagogical practices is necessary to prepare learners for meaningful participation in an increasingly globalized world.

Abstract

The increasing diversity in English language classrooms has prompted the need for more adaptive and individualized teaching methods. This study examines the implementation of personalized learning approaches to accommodate the varying needs, interests, and abilities of learners. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis from English teachers who employ personalized strategies in their instruction. The results reveal that personalized learning fosters greater student engagement, motivation, and language acquisition by offering differentiated tasks, integrating technology, providing individualized feedback, and conducting formative assessments. However, challenges such as large class sizes, limited resources, and the necessity of strong teacher competencies were also identified. It is concluded that personalized learning can significantly improve the effectiveness of English language education for diverse learners if supported by appropriate institutional policies, continuous professional development, and learner training in self-regulation. The findings offer valuable insights for educators seeking to design more inclusive, responsive, and student-centered English language classrooms.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of using flashcards in vocabulary teaching on improving students' vocabulary acquisition at SMA Negeri 1 Padang Bolak Julu. The method used was classroom action research which consisted of two cycles. The data collection instruments were pre-test, post-test cycle 1 and post-test cycle 2 along with observation and interview. The data were statistically analyzed by calculating the mean and percentage increase in students' scores. The results showed that the use of flashcards was effective in improving students' vocabulary mastery. The average score of the students increased from 43.67 in the pre-test to 82.5 in the second cycle post-test. The percentage of score increase from the pre-test to the second cycle post-test was 88.9%. In addition, 83.33% of the students successfully achieved the minimum criteria (KKM) at the end of the second cycle. The results of this study support the hypothesis that the use of flashcards has a significant positive impact on vocabulary learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the proficiency of seventh-grade students in using indefinite pronouns and identify the challenges they face in mastering this grammatical component. To achieve this, the research adopts a qualitative methodology with random sampling of 58 students. Data were collected through a combination of tests and interviews. The tests consisted of 10 multiple-choice questions and 10 essay questions, designed to assess the students' understanding and application of indefinite pronouns. Following the tests, interviews were conducted with 10 students to gain deeper insights into the reasons behind their difficulties. The results reveal significant challenges among the students in mastering indefinite pronouns. Specifically, 18.96% of students struggled with subject indefinite pronouns, 48.27% with object indefinite pronouns, and 50% with adjective indefinite pronouns. The difficulties were attributed to both internal factors, such as lack of motivation and low language proficiency, and external factors, including ineffective teaching methods and insufficient practice opportunities. The study concludes that the students' mastery of indefinite pronouns is significantly influenced by these internal and external factors. The findings suggest a need for enhanced teaching strategies and targeted interventions to improve students' grammatical skills and overall proficiency in English.
