Abstract

The use of car by students as a primary mode for commuting to campus has profound effects on campusparking requirements and traffic congestion at peak hours. It is interesting how to reduce the amount ofparking provided and also minimize traffic congestion, but still meet transportation demand. One of thealternative solutions was Campus Transportation Management (CTM), with the purpose of improvingtransportation efficiency by reducing car dependency by changes to other transport modes. Carpool is one ofthe most common and cost effective alternative modes, particularly in areas that are not well served by publictransit. This paper aims to recognize the respond of the students regarding the carpool program and to mappotential zones and routes for the implementation of carpool at Petra Christian University. The result show, ifthe carpool program is be implemented at Petra Christian University, it should begin with several routes themost participants and meet the carpool conditions (participant schedule and characteristics). Keywords: campus transport management, carpool route, carpool matching.

Abstract

The most common daily trip for students is the commute to and from campus. Students tend to choose car when commuting. This preference has resulted in a number of negative effects. Therefore it is necessary to investigate the psychological factors influencing students’ car use behavior. The popular theory of plannedbehavior (TPB) was successfully applied by different authors to explain people’s travel mode choices.According to TPB, intentions are the closest antecedents of behavior, and intentions were resulted fromattitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. TPB assumes that these components are in turndetermined by salient beliefs for each component and evaluations of those beliefs. This study elicit students’salient beliefs in relation to car commuting, that could be used to construct a full TPB questionnaire. Thisquestionnaire could then be used to investigate student car commuting behavioural intention. A sample ofstudents from four different university, with a sample size of 200 people, completed questionnaires with eightopen-ended questions eliciting beliefs concerning car use. The results indicated that the most frequentlymentioned salient beliefs related to behavioral beliefs are comfort, security, flexibility, prestige, parkingfacilities, congestion, and travel cost. Meanwhile, those related to normative beliefs are parents,boyfriend/girlfriend, and friend, and those related to control beliefs are parents, car availability, number ofcar owned, car’s technical problem, congestion, and travel cost. Keywords: theory of planned behavior, student’s salient beliefs, car use for commuting.

Abstract

Abstract With the increasing number of the student using cars for traveling to campus, Petra Christian University needs to implement parking management strategy to optimize current parking supply. One of those potentially parking management strategies is difference parking facilities between students those who drive alone or Single-Occupancy Vehicle and ride-sharing or High-Occupancy Vehicle. The aim of this study is to obtain mode choice model between Single-Occupancy Vehicle Single-Occupancy Vehicle and High-Occupancy Vehicle with three attributes, which are the parking fee, time to find empty parking space, and walking time from parking lot to campus building. Data obtained through filling out the stated preference questionnaires by 300 students. Based on mode choice model, the parking fee is the most sensitive attribute that influences students’ to shift from drive alone to ride-sharing, compared with both time to find empty parking space and walking time from parking lot to campus building. Kata-kata kunci: model pemilihan moda, fasilitas parkir, berkendara bersama

Abstract

The most common daily trip for students is the commute to and from campus. Though there are clear environmental, economic, and social drawback from using private vehicles for these trips, students still choose private vehicles to get to campus. This study reports an investigation of psychological factors influencing students’ behavior to commute by car from the perspective of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Students from three different university campuses (sample size of 312) completed a survey on their car commuting behavior. Results indicated that all relations postulated by the TPB are confirmed and perceived behavioral control was the strongest factor that influences students’ intention. Attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control explain 59% variance of the intention while intention explains 58% of the variance of the actual car use. Implications of these findings are that in order to alter the use of car, interventions should target the perceived behavioral control of commuting by car.

Abstract

The increasing use of cars by students impact on traffic congestion and the increasing need for parking spaces. This study has several objectives , namely (1) determine differences in travel expenses for students who use cars and vanpool services, (2) determine barriers for students who have not and who never use the vanpool service, (3) find out the facilities and vanpool fares desired by the student, (4) determine the value of the Benefit Cost Ratio shuttle service operators at present, and (5) estimate a deficit or surplus experienced by the campus, as a result of tariff subsidies for shuttle services and finance the shuttle service management. The results of this study indicate that the cost of travel by using a shuttle service is cheaper than using a car for traveling to campus if the distance from residences to campus greater than 9 km, and the subsidies granted for vanpool fares and vanpool office cost, can help overcome constraints associated with the shuttle service, parking demand reduction, and provide a budget surplus to fund other campus transportation management strategies. Keywords: parking demand, campus transport management, vanpool

Abstract

Congestion that occurred in the vicinity of Petra Christian University campus tends to increasing on the peak hours. One of the possible solutions to reduce congestion is to revamp the geometric design of campus access, as proposed in the final report of PCU Master Plan. The study was conducted to determine differences in the intersection performance indicator between the existing conditions compared with the proposed access design. The data was collected through survey of road inventory, origin-destination, and turning movement. The traffic assignment process carried using Trafikplan software, and analysis of the access performed by using software KAJI. Based on the result, it can be inferred if the proposed design ofgeometric access implemented, the intersection capacity estimated to be increase up to 46.6%, degree of saturation reduce up to 31.9%, intersection delay reduce up to 57%, and queue probability reduce up to 50.9%; compared with the existing access conditions till the year 2020. The demand management program should also be considered as an option to reduce congestion. Keywords: unsignalised intersection, reversible lane
