Abstract

The prevalence of people with diabetes mellitus has increased every year. Indonesia is ranked 7th in the world with 10.7 million people with diabetes. Diabetes in the long term can cause macrovascular and microvascular complications. One of the main complication of diabetes mellitus is diabetic neuropathy. Diabetic neuropathy is a microvascular complication that causes peripheral nerve dysfunction, which attacks the lower extremities, especially the legs. About 50% people with diabetes mellitus experience diabetic neuropathy. If not treated properly, this condition can reduce the patient's quality of life, increase the risk of amputation, and even death. Drugs are often the main choice for therapy, but cost constraints and side effects cause interest to look for other treatment alternatives. Treatment that can be done is to exercise. One of the recommended sports is diabetic foot exercise. Diabetic foot exercise is a light exercise focused on the legs consisting of ten steps. This sport can be done easily, does not cost money, and does not take a long time. Several studies state that diabetic foot exercises can be an alternative to prevent and inhibit the worsening of neuropathy in patients with diabetes mellitus by helping to accelerate peripheral blood circulation and strengthen muscles in the lower extremities to prevent injuries and foot deformities.

Abstract

Diabetic neuropathy is the most common complication of diabetes mellitus. As many 25% of people with diabetes mellitus in the world and 54% in Indonesia suffer from diabetic neuropathy. Electro-diagnostic studies are best used for the diagnosis of diabetic neuropathy. In addition, the diagnosis can be made by scoring Diabetic Neuropathy Symptom (DNS) and Diabetic Neuropathy Examination (DNE). Patients with diabetes mellitus must pay attention to risk factors such as carbohydrate intake, physical activity, duration of suffering, and medication adherence to prevent complications of diabetic neuropathy. Management of diabetic neuropathy can be done with drugs or other supportive therapy. This article uses a literature review method from various national and international journal references with the following search keywords: prevalence, diagnosis, risk factors, and management of diabetic neuropathy.

Abstract

Low birth weight babies are a preventable health problem in society. This is an important determinant of child survival and development, as well as long-term consequences such as the emergence of non-communicable diseases in their developmental lives. Babies with low birth weigth have a risk of fatality, development and growth delays compared to babies who are not LBW. In general, the causes of LBW are due to maternal and fetal factors, because while in the womb, the fetus receives the supplies it needs to survive from the mother. A large amount of mortality and morbidity can be prevented by addressing the factors associated with low birth weight. The aim of this literature review is to identify risk factors associated with low birth weight. Various studies have shown several risk factors for low birth weight babies, including maternal age during pregnancy and marital status, maternal diet, smoking habits during pregnancy, educational and socio-economic status, maternal activity during pregnancy and history of complications during pregnancy. But of course the existing research still has certain limitations, so further research is needed in the future.

Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder that affects children permanently. The exact cause of GSA is not yet known and affects more men than women with a ratio of 4:1. This autism disorder in children appears from birth or a few months after birth, but is often diagnosed when the child is less than 3 years old. Confirmation of GSA diagnosis can use two screening tools, namely DSM-5 and M-CHAT. The management that can be given to children with GSA can be pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2022, 1 in 100 children in the world is diagnosed with autism. Children with GSA have many disorders that can affect their daily activities, both verbally and non-verbally. The main symptoms that are often encountered in children with GSA are difficulties in social interaction, problems in communication, including difficulty learning language or abnormalities in speech, and a tendency to be obsessive about maintaining a consistent daily routine and environment. The prognosis of GSA depends on the severity of each individual and the accompanying disease. This of course makes parents who have children with GSA will be faced with specific challenges in raising their children because children with GSA have different characteristics. Effective strategies that can be carried out to improve disorders in GSA children include the use of visual aids, the creation of a structured daily schedule, good interpersonal communication, the application of the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) method, integrated sensory therapy, occupational therapy, and play therapy. In addition, to overcome the stress experienced by parents of children with GSA, especially in mothers, it can be done by providing parenting education through psychoeducation.
