Abstract

Teacher's book is a document that serves as a guideline for teachers during the implementation of learning and student books that serve as references. There is only a little literature on short story structure. In short story material for Senior High Schools (SMA), it is necessary to utilize teaching materials needed by teachers. In the structural study of Robert Stanton's literary work, there are facts and story tools that help in analyzing the elements of short story builders in SMA. The researcher chose the short story Summa Cum Laude by Syafruddin Pernyata because he is an East Kalimantan writer who is known as a literary figure and is active in the literacy movement. Research related to short stories is very necessary to be studied because it is important for teachers or readers to understand the basics of short story content which has many benefits in relation to literary learning. Therefore, this study was conducted to answer: (1) Develop teaching materials to analyze short story building elements based on structural studies for class XI students of SMA Negeri 5 Samarinda. (2) Describe the effectiveness of teaching materials to analyze short story building elements based on structural studies and for class XI students of SMA Negeri 5 Samarinda. Abstract

This study examines how the Indonesian rock band .Feast uses song lyrics as a form of critical discourse to challenge social, political, and ideological structures in contemporary Indonesia. Analyzing three of their most charged songs—“Peradaban,” “Kami Belum Tentu,” and “Padi Milik Rakyat”—the research employs Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) with Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional model and Teun A. van Dijk’s socio-cognitive framework. The findings reveal that .Feast’s lyrics reflect societal frustrations over inequality, corruption, violence, and disillusionment, using elements like metaphor and irony to critique and resist hegemonic political narratives. The songs serve as both representations of social realities and performative interventions in public discourse. The study underscores the microphone as a metaphorical weapon against silence and marginalization, affirming the political value of popular music. It highlights the importance of analyzing music as a legitimate space for civic engagement and discourse. This research has implications for educational management by encouraging critical thinking and civic engagement in students through popular culture. Integrating music into curricula can foster discussions on power dynamics, social justice, and creative expression, empowering students to challenge societal norms and develop as informed, socially conscious individuals.

Abstract

This classroom action research was conducted due to the discovery of problems in writing instruction that were not optimal. especially on the quality of student learning, activeness in learning, and the development of student cognitive skills (critical thinking and creativity). This research was to improve short story writing skills, student activeness in learning, and critical thinking skills and creativity of class XI students of SMA IT YABIS Bontang in the 2024/2025 Academic Year through the application of the Process Approach. The subjects of the study were 30 class XI students of SMA IT YABIS Bontang. Data collection techniques were carried out by giving assignments to make short stories, observations, interviews, and questionnaires. The implementation of the research started from the initial survey, cycle I to cycle II. Each cycle consists of (1) planning; (2) implementation of actions; (3) observation; and (4) analysis and reflection. The results of the study showed a significant increase in the three aspects observed. Students' short story writing skills increased from 23% of students who passed the pre-action to 90% of students who achieved a score of ≥ 75 in cycle II. Student activity during learning also increased in each cycle, including activity during apperception (from 35% to 83%), attention to the material (from 40% to 87%), activeness in asking/responding (from 27% to 67%), cooperation and discussion (from 15% to 87%), and seriousness in doing assignments (from 55% to 90%). Furthermore, the implementation of the Process Approach has also been proven to improve students' critical thinking skills, marked by a shift in the majority of students from a low level (86.66%) in cycle I to a high level (76.66%) in cycle II. Likewise, students' creativity in writing short stories increased, with the majority of students moving from a moderate level (63.33%) in cycle I to a high level (70%) in cycle II, and most even reached a very high level (33.33%). This finding indicates that the application of the Process Approach is effective in improving students' short story writing skills, learning activity, and critical thinking skills and creativity

Abstract

Driven by the growing awareness of cultural relevance in English language teaching (ELT), this study presents the development of English materials based on Islamic stories for Islamic schools. This study aims to describe the design of English teaching materials that integrate Islamic values in response to the lack of culturally appropriate resources available to teachers in Islamic educational settings. This study used a qualitative approach to describe the process of developing teaching materials from Islamic stories through the development stages. The primary data consists of drafts of teaching materials at each development stage, from initial design through revisions to the final prototype. Supporting data is obtained from literature, learning theories, and teaching materials design principles, which serve as the foundation for each development step. The development process involved determining learning goals, selecting and adapting content, texts, and tasks, instructions, and learning outcomes assessment. The materials were carefully designed to meet students’ linguistic level and moral development goals. In the process, the researchers do self-evaluation, consultation with experts, and revision to produce high-quality materials. This study highlights the broader framework of Islamization of knowledge in ELT, emphasizing the importance of aligning language learning with Islamic worldviews. By offering culturally and spiritually relevant learning resources, the materials developed in this study provide English teachers with practical tools to foster both language proficiency and religious character education in Muslim learners.

Abstract

Despite the widespread shift to digital learning during the pandemic, limited research has examined how contextual factors influence ICT adoption patterns among EFL teachers in developing regions. This study investigates Information and Communication Technology (ICT) adoption among 247 English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers in Kutai Kartanegara, Indonesia, using an extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) framework. The research addresses the critical gap in understanding technology integration patterns in post-pandemic Indonesian EFL education contexts.Using Structural Equation Modeling, the study examined core TAM constructs (perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude toward using, behavioral intention, and actual system use) alongside five extended constructs: digital self-efficacy, facilitating conditions, social influence, technology anxiety, and pandemic technology familiarity. Results revealed moderate-to-high ICT adoption levels, with video conferencing tools achieving the highest adoption rates, particularly Zoom, Google Meet, and WhatsApp for educational purposes. In contrast, AI-powered tools showed the lowest adoption rates, with limited integration in lesson planning activities. The extended TAM demonstrated superior explanatory power, accounting for 63% of variance compared to traditional models. All hypothesized relationships were supported, with perceived usefulness emerging as the strongest predictor of positive attitudes and digital self-efficacy significantly influencing perceived ease of use.Notable findings include persistent digital divides between beginner and advanced users, and the significant influence of pandemic technology familiarity on current adoption patterns, validating emergency remote teaching's lasting impact on educational practices. The study provides practical implications for differentiated professional development, infrastructure investment prioritizing reliable connectivity, and targeted interventions addressing confidence-building alongside technical training to enhance educational technology integration in developing regions
