Abstract

The mastery of various foreign languages causes frequent obstacles in the delivery of messages to the speech partners. As a result, teachers and class XI students of SMAN 2 Sangatta Utara used various communication strategies to deal with these obstacles. This study aims to describe the communication strategies used by teachers and class XI students of SMAN 2 Sangatta Utara in the class of Indonesian Language lessons. This research was done by a descriptive method and qualitative approach. The data was collected in March to October 2017 from one classroom teacher and one class XI of grade student of SMAN 2 Sangatta Utara. Data retrieval was carried out during the teaching and learning activities in the classroom when the teacher is teaching the Indonesian language. This study uses skillful free listening techniques to collect data. The data analysis was used the flow technique, namely (1) data reduction, (2) data presentation, and (3) drawing conclusions. The validity test of the data is done by (1) persistence observations, (2) peer examination, and (3) triangulation. The results study included: (1) when communicating with classmates, students use various communication strategies namely imitation communication strategies, the use of certain body language according to the meaning of communication that they want to achieve, and the transfer awareness communication strategies. (2) communication strategies in the classroom are mostly carried out by the teacher when communicating with students. The communication strategy of students with teachers includes (a) paraphrase, (b) transfer awareness type, (c) asking for help type, (d) avoiding type and (e) imitating type.

Abstract

Learning method, especially at fabel writing is less less variative; as a result, learning process cannot explore students’ writing skill. Therefore, the writer found that it needs to do the synectics learning method development in writing skill learning. This research purpose is to develop the synectics method development in writing learning process. This research uses research and Development (R&D) method, which is stated by Brog and Gall that it consists of ten steps of source development, which in this research, is VII grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Balikpapan. Data collection is done by doing the questionnaire, observing, interviewing and documenting. This learning method development is declared very feasible by three validators; material expert validator, media expert validator and learning pratitioner. Based on test result, the synectics model can imrpove the students’ score through the test process. The observation result of the learning activity is done by observer I and II and is declared very good.

Abstract

This study used Qualitative Content Analysis research as its design. The purpose of this study are: (1) to find out the types of profanity that are uttered in Pulp Fiction; (2) to find out the purposes of the profanity that are uttered in Pulp Fiction. In analysing the data, the researcher used Creswell and Poth’s (2018) qualitative data analysis procedure. The researcher analysed the profanity in Quentin Tarantino’s film Pulp Fiction by using Bergen (2016) and Pinker (2007) profanity theory. The result of this study shows that in Pulp Fiction there are four types of profanity, namely religious, sex, bodily function, and discriminative language. As for the purpose, there are four purpose of profanity in Pulp Fiction, namely dysphemistic, emphatic, idiomatic, cathartic, and abusive. Sex profanity are the most used type of profanity, while religious profanity are the least used type. Emphatic purpose is the most used profanity purpose, while idiomatic purpose are the least used purpose. The suggestion from the researcher were students and teachers should learn profanity as the means to understand and expand their knowledge in profanity language so that students who freely use the words would become more responsible when using profanity. For the next researchers, it would be useful if they investigate profanity based on medias that portray more realistic social interaction or even goes far as focusing on real life human interaction in society

Abstract

Anxiety in learning English is a state of tension and apprehension as a natural response in learning English, and might impede students’ learning process. This study was intended to find the students anxiety level and the dominant factor influencing in learning English. The survey research was applied to get the data needed. There were 120 respondents from four classes of the eleventh grade students of SMKN 17 Samarinda. The research instrument was a questionnaire by Horwitz (1991). Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the quantitative data. It was found out that on average students had high anxiety level, in which 73% of the students were categorized as having high anxiety level. Then, 19 % of the students had very high anxiety level, and 7.5% had medium anxiety. There are three anxiety factors, two factors: communication apprehension (74.9%) and test anxiety (74,5%) became the dominant factors, since in both factors, while the negative evaluation (69%) was the lower percentages from three dominant factor. Moreover, there were sub-factors which were found in this study that had correlation with the dominant factors in learning English, such as: not confident in learning English and lack of vocabulary (communication apprehension), teacher did not reduce anxiety and teaching quickly (test anxiety) and not good environment in learning English (fear negative evaluation)

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between autonomy and intrinsic motivation of the third semester students of English Department of Mulawarman University academic year 2019/2020. The design of this study was correlational design within quantitative approach. The sample of this study was 73 Third Semester students of English Department of Mulawarman University in academic year 2019/2020. The autonomy questionnaire was adapted from Lin & Reinders (2017) and motivation questionnaire was adapted from Gardner (1985). The data of this study were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Formula. The data analysis result of autonomy questionnaire showed that third semester English Department students’ autonomy level was 0.392 (M=3.92) and deemed as ‘approaching autonomy’. This result implied that participants had sufficient knowledge and supporting factors to increase their autonomy in learning but not in high rate. The data analysis for the motivation subscale showed that the mean score of students’ motivation was 0.407 (M=4.07), which is considered as high degree of motivation. It can be inferred that the participants had high level of integrative and instrumental motivation. The result of the Pearson Product Formula (0.378) showed that there was a positive and low correlation. Positive correlation means there is a positive relationship between variable as both variables tend to increase or decrease linearly together. This means Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This result meant that students’ autonomy and motivation can be increased positively in linear manner. However, the correlation is not high since there are many other factors which has relationship with the development of autonomy and motivation

Abstract

Video EM yang mengkritik pemindahan ibu kota negara menjadi polemik dan memicu protes. Kasus tersebut bergulir sampai pada proses pengadilan dengan vonis 7 bulan dan 15 hari penjara karena terbukti meresahkan masyarakat. Fokus dalam penelitian ini berupa analisis kritis pengungkapan unsur tindak pidana kebencian atau permusuhan individu atau golongan dalam unggahan EM. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Data penggunaan bahasa dalam video EM di Youtube MimbarTube dari penyidik kepolisian dan data pendukung berasal dari pemberitaan media. Teknik analisis data menggunakan model interaktif. Pendekatan analisis sosiopragmatik, tindak tutur. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa terdapat beberapa bagian pernyataan yang diduga kuat dapat menyinggung perasaan masyarakat Kalimantan, yakni pindah ke tempat Jin buang anak, pasarnya kuntilanak gendruwo buat apa membangun di Penajam, Kalimantan, dan hanya monyet (yang akan tinggal di IKN baru). Pernyataan tersebut berperformatif terbukti menimbulkan ketersinggungan, kegaduhan, dan kemarahan masyarakat, tokoh, dan lembaga-lembaga adat.

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini dilatarbelakangi dengan adanya tanggapan positif dan negatif dari beberapa kepala negara, pakar, dan praktisi yang hadir dalam sidang virtual saat covid-19 mengalami peningkatan tahun 2020. Teori yang digunakan yaitu analisi wacana kohesi gramatikal dan leksikal. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif yang termasuk dalam jenis penelitian kepustakaan. Data dalam penelitian ini berupa kata, frasa, klausa, dan kalimat. Teknik analisis data menggunakan metode agih dan padan dengan teknik simak bebas libat cakap dan teknik catat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pidato banyak mengalami unsur repetisi. Salah satunya terdapat kata ganti “kita” yang menunjuk diri dan seluruh perwakilan negara yang hadir pada sidang tersebut. Repetisi menjadi pengaruh dalam jalannya pidato karena memiliki poin dalam unsur penekanan terhadap pidato yang disampaikan. Analisis wacana kohesi gramatikal dan leksikal pada pidato tersebut sudah padu karena memiliki bentuk penyusunan kata yang sesuai dan isi pidato yang disampaikan sudah kompleks sesuai harapan dan tujuan seluruh kepala negara kedepannya. Tentu isi pidato memiliki korelasi dengan situasi yang terjadi seperti menurunnya perekonomian seluruh negara, terjangkitnya covid-19, masih terjadi konflik seperti Palestina dan Israel. Inilah yang menjadi sebab bahwa pidato tersebut terdapat unsur repetisi karena Presiden hanya menginginkan seluruh warga negara untuk terus bekerja sama dan menjunjung tinggi perdamaian dunia.  Kata kunci : analisis wacana, kohesi gramatikal dan leksikal, pidato Jokowi

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the challenges of online-based leadership implementation in post-pandemic educational innovation applications at Public Aliyah Madrasah (MAN). This study uses a qualitative approach with purposive and snowball sampling techniques. The findings show that: The challenge in improving the quality and competitiveness of online-based schools after the pandemic is the need to develop superior human resources to prepare the community and nation to face the knowledge age as a competitive era. The challenge in Human Resources (HR) and online-based finance after the pandemic is to build a new structure that improves teacher coordination and collaboration that utilizes the expertise of all educators, ultimately leading to better working conditions and workplaces; As for the challenges in improving the quality of online-based leadership post-pandemic, namely leadership that is disruptive to the current progress and creative in terms of policies which include the stages of preparation, enlightenment, elaboration, and verification.

Abstract

This research is motivated by news that is increasingly free in expression in online media. Society is presented with taboo news such as sexual harassment. Foksu research is a critical discourse analysis on sexual harassment of women online media edisis January- February 2022. The importance of conducting this research is that researchers want to reveal the purpose of news writing by looking at how women are positioned in the news. the purpose of this study is to describe a critical discourse analysis on sexual harassment of women in the January-February 2022 edition of online media. This research is a qualitative descriptive research using a critical discourse analysis approach. The data in this study is in the form of langsu quotes in the form of words, phrases, clauses, sentences, or paragraphs that indicate the position of the subject, object and reader. The source of the data is a news discourse in several online media outlets containing about sexual harassment of women in the January- February 2022 edition. The data collection technique used in this study was to use the listen and record technique. Helpful data collection instruments that assist the research in conducting this research are news texts, papers, highlighters, laptobs, pens and data cards. The severity of the data used is the persistence of observations and the triamgulation of peers. The analysis technique uses Sara Milles data, namely the reduction stage, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study were 15 data selection data in the form of news texts from online media, which included 5 data detiknews.com, Liputan6 as much as 1 news, detiknews as many as 6 news, Kompas com as many as 1 news, Tribun, East Kalimantan as many as 2 news, cakapkalah.com as many as 1 news containing sexual harassment of women in the January-February 2022 edition of online media. The news dominates the position of men and women is marginalized. The reader's position to follow the flow of the newswriter.

Abstract

Fenomena yang menjadi salah satu isu dan memiliki keterkaitan dengan masyarakat di Indonesia adalah multikulturalisme. Indonesia adalah salah satu Negara dengan keberagaman etnik dan budaya. Menjadi suatu hal yang wajar apabila permasalahan terkait keberagaman etnik dan budaya menjadi isu yang populer di kalangan masyarakat. Isu terkait maskulinitas dan feminitas sebagai bagian dari multikulturalisme telah merambah sampai pada karya sastra di Indonesia. Salah satu karya sastra yang membahas isu tersebut adalah cerpen yang ditulis oleh Kuntowijoyo dengan judul Dilarang Mencintai Bunga-Bunga. Oleh karena itu, isu terkait maskulinitas dan feminitas menjadi menarik untuk dikaji menggunakan sudut pandang kajian multikulturalisme.  Artikel ilmiah dalam penelitian ini akan membahas mengenai permasalahan terkait relasi maskulinitas dan feminitas yang terdapat dalam cerpen tersebut. Secara metodologis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Berdasarkan hasil kajian ditemukan bahwa bentuk keberagaman gender (maskulinitas) yang muncul di dalam cerpen antara lain : (1) Machismo dan (2) Soft Masculinity. Sedangkan bentuk relasi maskulinitas dan feiminitas ditemukan dalam hubungan relasi antara tokoh Buyung, Ayah, dan Kakek di dalam cerpen.
