Abstract

Ammonia biosorption by using Enceng Gondok, Eichhornia crassipes, was conducted in outdoor laboratory with objective to study the influence residence time and plant age to ammonia biosorption rate. The research uses reactor test consisting of wet land and sludge. Enceng Gondok is planted on reactor test flown by ammonia as bacth with relatif low enough concentration (2 mg/L), water height 20 cm, plants number in each reactor of 4 stems with variatious plants length 10, 20, 30, and 40 cm, and various residence time 2, 4, 6, and 8 days. Each test conducted was completed by controlling reactor. Research result showed that maximun biosorption occurs at 2 days culturization; ammonia biosorption rate by roots increases as residence time increases. Residence time 2, 4, 6 and 8 days can decrease ammonia concentration up to 1.568 mg/l, 0.245 mg/l, 0.204 mg/l (10%), and 0.022 mg/l, respectively, at plant length 10 cm. Further, research results showed that the more the plants age, the larger the biosorption by plant. Keywords: ammonia biosorption, enceng gondok, plants age, residence time

Abstract

Water quality assessment in the tsunami-affected areas conducted in Meuraxa and Kutaradja sub-districts in the area of Banda Aceh City. Water samples were collected in October 2006 from dug wells of tsunami-affected areas. These were characterized for various physical and chemical parameters. Water quality in the selected areas has shown that the surface water was contaminated due to the tsunami. Total Dissolved Solid, Total Suspended Solid, Acidity, and salinity were high in the affected areas indicating saline water intrusion into surface water tables. Dug wells in the highly affected locations showed higher values of heavy metal ions like Mn, Pb, Cu, Fe, Zn, and Cu compared to the reference points. No ion Hg was found in all samples. Abstract

Wetlands, as part of ecological technology commonly applied in wastewater treatment, are an innovative solution in environmental protection and restoration. Floating Treatment Wetland Systems (FTWs) are a new concept in wastewater treatment using macrophytes rooted in aquatic plants modified as floating systems. Use of a local aquatic plant that is often found and thrives as a weed in rice fields throughout Aceh, namely Actinoscirpusgrossus. Variables varied according to plant height, pond I 90cm – 150cm, pond II 50cm – 90cm and pond III control without plants, influent and effluent were analyzed every two weeks for 18 weeks with 9 analytical sampling times. The results of the domestic wastewater experimental parameter test showed that the average degradation efficiency (%DE) was pH 6.92, total suspended solid (TSS): 98.28%, biological oxygen demand (BOD): 97.77% and chemical oxygen demand (COD): 98.30%, very significant results. The management process of regularly cutting plants is an important part for the Actinoscirpusgrossus aquatic plant to achieve optimum results in processing wastewater, namely for 112 days with a maximum plant growth height of 165cm and 173cm for the two variations of the experimental ponds.

Abstract

This study explores the development of a character-building model that integrates the Merdeka Curriculum and School-Driven Program to foster religious and social care values among high school students in Banda Aceh. Using a qualitative approach, data was collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation analysis, involving school principals, teachers, students, and community members from four high schools in Banda Aceh. Triangulation of sources and techniques ensured data validity. The findings show that each school employs unique character-building strategies aligned with its vision and mission. The study emphasizes the importance of proactive school leadership, teacher engagement, and community collaboration in successful character education. To address challenges such as cultural differences, student readiness, and resource limitations, the Busi (Islamic School Culture) model was developed. This model integrates religious values and social activities, enhancing students discipline, empathy, and social skills. The implementation of the Busi model led to significant improvements in students moral and social development. The study underscores the need for integrating religious and social values into the curriculum and fostering collaboration between schools, families, and communities to achieve holistic character education.
