Abstract

This study aims to develop an English listening learning model infused with project-based learning and digital scholarship for autonomous learners. Digital scholarship (DS) is one element of eco-literacy that uses digital tools and technologies to make teaching and learning easier. Project-based learning (PjBL) is much better at offering contextualized, hands-on learning experiences that encourage critical thinking in the face of challenging problems. The descriptors of autonomous learners are infused into the existing learning model to create a dynamic and enriching educational experience for autonomous 10th-grade students. Conducted at a senior high school in Bogor, West Java province, the four steps of modified design and development research—need analysis, design, development, and evaluation—were applied in this study. The data were gathered by observation, interviewing, and syllabus analysis of the existing learning paradigm and reviewing pertinent research on PjBL, DS, autonomous learning, and listening comprehension. After a review of the relevant literature, it was discovered that three of eleven PjBL descriptors, five of the twenty-five DS descriptors, six of eleven B1 listening skill descriptors, and two of eleven autonomous learner descriptors had been included in the current learning model. A conceptual framework is used to develop the existing learning model to be an English listening learning model infused with project-based learning and digital scholarship for autonomous learners.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) evaluate students' C1 hearing comprehension challenges; (2) examine students' C1 listening comprehension improvement techniques; and (3) track students' C1 listening comprehension through self-directed learning. Five students from the State University of Jakarta's Magister degree in English Language Education participated in this study, which used a case study methodology. The study involved watching the weekly data report for written self-reflection. The results show that the majority of pupils struggle with filling gaps in C1 Listening. Most of them got difficulties in determining detailed information, mishearing, and because of speaking fast of the speaker. From the results, it is also clear that the students employed note-taking, focus, and attention skills as well as metacognitive strategies to address the challenges they experienced. As part of their self-directed learning in listening comprehension, the students can consider what they have learned or experienced, develop, and define their methods for gathering and assimilation new information.

Abstract

This research was conducted to discover the difficulties faced and the strategies employed by students of the Master of English Language Education Study Program during self-directed web-based listening activities at the B2, C1, and C2 levels of CEFR. In this research, the researcher involved 8 students of the Master of English Language Education Study Program at a state university in Indonesia who enrolled in the same class for the English Proficiency for Teachers course. During the course, the students autonomously developed their listening proficiency. At the same time, the students were asked to report their results of listening activities while also identifying and reporting the difficulties they faced and the strategies to overcome the difficulties during the listening activities in the form of task reports and self-reflective writing. The researcher employed the content analysis method to explore the reflective writing and reports written by the students of the Master of English Language Education Study Program to discover the difficulties they faced and the listening strategies they employed. The students’ reflections were analyzed to set the rubric for discovering their difficulties and strategies. Then, the researcher used the rubric as an instrument to analyze the data. As a result, this research has confirmed that students of the Master of English Language Education Study Program faced various difficulties and employed various strategies during the self-directed web-based listening activities at the B2, C1, and C2 levels of CEFR. Abstract

The emergence of word-processing software assisted students in overcoming academic writing challenges. Other research, however, revealed that it was more concerned with students' academic writing challenges in linguistic problems than with how to handle them using a word processor. As a result, the purpose of this study is to determine how to adopt word processor features to assist postgraduate students who have problems with academic writing. As the study design, a qualitative survey with descriptive analysis was employed. Students' article writing and 10 second-semester postgraduate students from January until June 2023 enrolled in an Academic writing course at one of the universities in Jakarta and served as data sources. Data were gathered through the analysis of students' article writing and an online questionnaire, which were then analysed and interpreted descriptively. This research revealed that word class was discovered to be the most challenging, followed by word mistakes, grammar, and word format in the classroom. It was discovered that using a word processor might assist them the most in overcoming word formatting challenges, followed by spelling errors, grammar, and word classes. As a result, despite the extensive use of word processing tools, students should not abandon reading while writing academically with this tool because it cannot guarantee that it will aid them 100% of the time.
