Abstract

Abstract. The research aims to measure the level of creative thinking ability of math for Junior High School students in 8th year class especially in SMP Negeri 6 Jember, SMP Al Furqan 1, SMP Negeri 1 Rambipuji, and SMP PGRI 1 Rambipuji. The research methods are test with open ended problems and interview. The research shows that 2,84% students are in very high level of creative thinking, 2,84% are in high level of creative thinking, 21,49% are in the middle level of creative thinking, 29,75% are in low level of creative thinking, and 43,80% are in very low level of creative thinking among total 121 students. This shows that the creatitive thinking of math for students in 8th year class especially in SMP Negeri 6 Jember, SMP Al Furqan 1, SMP Negeri 1 Rambipuji, and SMP PGRI 1 Rambipuji are still low. Abstract

Abstract. This research aims to describe the profile of sudent’s creative thinking skill in solving problems of TIMSS model geometrical content. Indonesian students’ achievement in international mathematics test TIMSS were at low benchmark especially in geometrical content. The reasearch subject were 6 randomly selected students of 64 students from Grade 8A and 8B SMPN 1 Bondowoso. Methods of data collection in this research used tests and interviews. Creative thinking skill aspects are fluency, flexibilty, originality and elaboration. Based on the analysis of the data, the results show that 1 student is categorized as very creative (level 4), 3 students are creative (level 3), and 2 students are categorized as quite creative (level 2). The level 4 student (S3) achieved all aspects as well as fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration. The student gave variation of answers and interprete problems in different prespectives although he did not often get it. The level 3 students (S1, S4, and S6) can achieve fluency, flexibility, and originality aspect. The level 2 students (S2 and S5) tend to achieve two aspects of creative thinking.   Keywords: Mathematics, TIMSS, Creative Thinking, Geometrical Content.

Abstract

Abstract. This research aims to describe students’ comprehension based on apos theory on the theme “cuboid and cube” from the perspective of emotional quotient of grade IX A students SMP Negeri 1 Semboro. This research is a descriptive study with qualitative approach. APOS theory assumes that understand of mathematical concept is a result of construction or reconstruction of mathematical object. Construction or reconstruction is done by action, processes, and object that are coordination in a scheme to solve the problems. So, we can know comprehension student of mathematical concept can use APOS theory. Subjects of this study were 6 students consist of 2 students with high emotional quotient, 2 students with moderate emotional quotient and 2 students with low emotional quotient. Data collection obtained with emotional quotient questionnaires, test, and interview. Based on the results of the analysis, the results can be obtained that students with high emotional quotient has reached the stage of action, process, object, and scheme; the comprehension of students with moderate emotional quotient has reached the stage of action, process, and object; the comprehension of students with low emotional quotient just has reached the stage of action, has not reached the process, object, and scheme. Keywords: Comprehension, APOS theory, Emotional quotient, Cuboid and Cube.

Abstract

Metacognitive skills is one of the skills that help students in learning math. One way to strengthen students' metacognitive skills by using collaborative learning. This research aims to describe the students’ metacognitive skills in the stages of prediction and evaluation skills by using collaborative learning about Pythagorean theorem at Islamic’s School One Atap Jember. The subject of this research is all students of class VIII B that consist of 20 students in each class. Then, they were formed in 4 study groups, so each group consisted of 5 students. The results in this study were obtained through the students worksheet at the collaborative learning and interview process by representatives of each group. Based on the results of students worksheet, the stage of prediction skills in exploration and transformation learning stage could be fulfilled by the four groups. While the evaluation skill at the reflection learning stage only be met by two groups, the other groups did not meet it because they have not justify the step or the calculation process that has not been appropriate. Based on the results of interviews from the four representatives of the group it can be seen that the prediction skills only be met by two representative groups, that are students with high and medium skilled. Keywords: Metacognitive skills, collaborative learning, prediction skills, evaluation skills.

Abstract

Abstract. This research aims to describe students’ misconception to solve evaluated problem based on Certainty of Response Index. It is a descriptive qualitative research. This research was conducted in SMPN 3 Jember with 67 students grade VIII. The instrument used test the higher order thinking of mathematics problems and guidelines for interview. The data collection methods were test and interview. The respondences were given test then the result of test would be categorized into lucky guess, lack of knowledge, understand concept, and misconceptions based on CRI. Based on data analysis, it can be conclude there are students’ misconceptions. In CRI scale 3, students had misconceptions in translation, systematic, strategy, and counting to solve evaluated problem. In CRI scale 4, students had misconceptions in translation, systematic, and strategy. In CRI scale 5, students had misconceptions in translation, systematic, strategy, and counting. Keywords: Misconception, Certainty of Response Index (CRI), evaluated mathematics problem

Abstract

Abstract. The purpose of this study was to explore ethnomatematics on Bayat pottery, production of Bayat Pottery and produce student teaching materials in the form of test packages. This research is qualitative research with ethnographic approaches. The methods of data collection used are observation and interview. 3 people were chosen as research subjects. The ethnomatematics include counting activities, numerical activities, and measuring activities. This study focused on determining the amount of base material for making mixtures or lempung, determining the size of the pottery, determining the ratio of the diameter of the base and lid, determining the shape. Mathematical concepts that emerge are the concept of direct proportion, number sequence, similarity, congruence, and space. Keywords: ethnomatematics, bayat pottery, teaching materials.

Abstract

Abstract. In general, mathematics learning at schools is a teacher centered, so the students become less active in teaching-learning process. It also causes the low score of the student learning achievement. Therefore, it needs a development of learning by applying a problem posing approach in program linier topic to improve the student learning achievement of class XII A in SMA Darus Sholah 2013/2014 academic year. The research methods are documentation, observation, test and interview. The data which is analysed are teacher’s activities, students’ activities and students’ test result. Final result of this research is the increasing of students’ activities and learning in class XII A SMA Darus Sholah the improvements of students’ activities are indicated by the average score of 71,05% for the first cycle, 85,96% for the second cycle of the action research. While the students’ learning increased significantly from 52,63% in tne first cycle to 89,47% in the second cycle of action research. It can be concluded that the Problem Posing approach is effective to improve the student learning achievement of class XII A in SMA Darus Sholah 2013/2014 academic year. Key Words: activities, student learning achievement, problem posing approach, program linier.

Abstract

Abstract. The purpose of this research to describe the creative thinking process of students in solving SPLDV subject matter questions based on Wallas stages in terms of learning styles. The subjects of this study is class VIIIA students as many as 30 students at SMPN 1 Arjasa , then taken as many as 2 students from each learning style to analyze and conduct in-depth interviews. Data collection with learning style questionnaires, SPLDV test questions and interviews. The analysis of the results of tests and interviews shows that students who have a visual learning style can smooth the stages of creative thinking smoothly and can meet several indicators of creative thinking. Auditory learning style students can pass the stages of creative thinking smoothly, but students tend not to re-check the answers obtained. Auditory learning style students tend not to pass the stages of illumination and verification, students with kinesthetic learning styles cannot meet the indicators of creative thinking flexibility. The six subjects have not fulfilled the indicators of original creative thinking because they have not been able to produce new ideas that are different from other classmates based on their own thinking. Keywords: creative thinking process, Wallas stage, learning style.
