Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of PBL model by using the demonstration method on the problem-solving skills to elementary school students. The study applied quasy experimental research method with pretest-posttest control group design. The population of this study was the fourth grade students of Diponegoro cluster in Kudus, Central Java in the academic year 2017/2018. The samples taken for this study were the fourth grade students of SD 1 Kajeksan and SD 2 Demaan with the total number of 30 students for each school. The sampling technique used in this study was Nonprobability Sampling technique. The data collection technique applied in this study was test in the form of essay, as well as non-test technique which consists of observation and documentation. The data were analyzed by using gain score and t-test. The results showed that there is significant influence of PBL model by using demonstration method to student problem solving ability, this is supported by N-Gain result = 0.59 that is categorized as medium category. Then, pretest-posttest results of problem-solving ability by using PBL model with the demonstration method were tvalue = 7.667. Furthermore, there was a difference betwen students' ability in solving the problems by using PBL model within and without demonstration method (tvalue (3,801) > ttable (1,672)). This is supported by the result of observation to the student engagement which was 81.11%. It indicates that the PBL model by using demonstration method affects the problem solving abilities.

This research used a qualitative method to know the result of the research that can be described as factually and profound. For data collection was used interview, observation, and study the documentation by using an interactive data analysis. For the validity data, there is three kinds of triangulation was used a technique of triangulation, source of triangulation, and the theory of triangulation. The result of the research showed that to develop the science academy learning in early childhood should be implemented into five components scientific approach such as observing, questioning, experimenting, associating, and networking. Through five scientific approach components the active learning of science that was seen in children were children bound actively during learning process, children bound in solving problem during experimenting, children were brave in questioning to the teacher, children were associating to the others friends related to the result of their experiment, children train themselves to solve their problem in their experimenting; then, they conclude the result based on their experiment. Based on the scientific approach, the active learning of science in early childhood developed well. Through the research, hopefully, it gave benefit to the society, such as enhancing their knowledge, especially in early childhood education. Also, the society was able to develop the potential of academic research, especially the active learning of science in early childhood.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the observation activity, to ask, to try, to analyze, and to communicate with the theme Always Save the Energy using scientific learning approach in elementary school. This is qualitative research. The object was purposively in SDN 4 Penyangkringan Kecamatan Weleri Kabupaten Kendal. Data collection was taken by observation, interview, and documentation. Data analysis was done by data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Triangulation was done to get the data validity. The result of the research shows that the scientific approach in the Always Save the Energy theme uses observation, asking the question, and collecting information in the learning activity. The observation activity done by the student is observing pictures in books and LCD, observing video prepared by the teacher, observing the realia, and observing the teacher’s explanation. The asking activity is; asking and giving answers between teachers and students after they observed and listened to the teacher’s explanation. The experiment activity was in the group, to prove about the evaporation liquid by sunlight, practicing a song notation, corn planting, making windmill from used drinking bottle, telling the experiment of the use of electricity, and drawing pictures of saving the fossil oil. The analysis and communication are done by students to analyze the result of the experiment. The communication activity was done both in individuals and the group.

Abstract

Combining strategies, approaches, methods, and learning material is characteristic of today's learning models innovation. This study aims to (1) determine the validity of the PBL model supported by Prezi Media in Social Studies instruction and (2) determine the effectiveness of the PBL model assisted by Prezi Media on students' critical thinking abilities and conceptual knowledge. This research used a quasi-experimental approach with a Nonequivalent Control Group. The study was done in two schools, with the experimental class being 2 Kaliajir Primary School and the control class being 3 Petir Primary School. The data-gathering technique employed was an observation, description, and a short entry test. The data analysis technique was a prerequisite test for conducting research, including the normality and homogeneity tests. Meanwhile, hypothesis testing using expert validators, independent sample t-test, and N-Gain test were performed. The findings indicated that (1) the PBL model enhanced by Prezi media was valid for application in Social Studies education, and (2) the PBL model enhanced by Prezi media improved students' critical thinking skills and conceptual understanding. The study concludes that the PBL model, aided by Prezi media, is appropriate for social studies education and effect on students' critical thinking abilities and conceptual knowledge.

This research aimed to develop 2D animation video based on Blora’s Local Knowledege as a learning media to improve 5th grade students’ ability in writing imaginative text. This research was using Research and Development Method (R&D) with ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Develoment, Implementation, and Evaluation) as the development procedures. The sample of this research was 5th grade students’ of SDN Bacem 01 Blora and SDN Bacem 02 Blora. Questionnaires consisted of media expert, materials expert, teachers’ response, observers’ response, and students’ response were the tools to obtain the data needed. The results of this research gained 93% of media expert, 96% of materials expert, 87% of teachers’ response, 89% of observers’ response, and 82% of students’ response. In conclusion, 2D animation video-based media development was feasible to be utilized to improve students’ ability in writing imaginative text based on Blora’s local wisdom.

Abstract

The Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM) is focusing on measuring students’ thinking and reasoning ability, one of which is reading literacy competence. The aims of this research are: 1) Developing character-based picture storybooks in Bahasa Indonesia subject in preparing for AKM; 2) Describing the characteristics of character-based picture storybooks media in preparing for AKM; 3) Examining the feasibility of character-based picture storybooks media in preparing for AKM; 4) Examining the effectiveness of character-based picture storybooks media of Bahasa Indonesia subject in improving elementary school 1st grade students’ reading literacy. The type of this research is Research and Development (R&D) with ADDIE model modified by Branch as the development model. The sample of this research are elementary school 1st grade students, with 30 students as the experimental group and 28 students as the control group. The finding of this research shows that character-based picture storybooks are very feasible to be used with a percentage of 93.3% of media feasibility criteria and 85% of material and language feasibility criteria. Based on the results, t-test value is 0.006 < 0.05 meaning that character-based picture storybooks are effective. The mean improvement using the n-gain test shows that the experimental group has the higher increase, obtaining an n-gain of 0.686 with medium category while the lower increase is found in control group with 0.449 in medium category. Thus, it can be concluded that character-based picture storybooks are effective to be used in Bahasa Indonesia subject to improve elementary school 1st grade students’ reading literacy capability.
