Abstract

Abstract. Reliability serves as a key indicator represented by an index or numerical value. Broadly, system reliability is defined as the capability of a power system to deliver an adequate electricity supply while maintaining satisfactory quality standards. This study conducts a comprehensive analysis of the reliability level of the distribution system at the Kuta Main Substation. The substation is supported by three feeders: the Kuta feeder, the Novotel feeder, and the Teluk Awang feeder. To assess the reliability of the distribution system, this study refers to SPLN No. 68 of 1986, which sets the SAIFI standard at 3.2 interruptions per customer annually and the SAIDI standard at 21 hours per customer per year. The lowest SAIFI value is found in the Novotel feeder at 4.26 times/year/customer and the highest SAIFI value is found in the Teluk Awang feeder at 22.198 times/year/customer. For the SAIDI values of the three feeders, only the Novotel feeder meets the PT.PLN SAIDI reliability index with a SAIDI value of 12.9 hours/customer/year. While in the ETAP simulation, the lowest SAIFI value is found in the Novotel feeder with a value of 4.458 times/year/customer and the highest in the Kuta feeder with a value of 25.63 times/customer/year.Keywods : Reliability, SAIFI, SAIDI, Section Technique, FMEA

Abstract

The theory and application of external lightning protection systems for buildings are not included in the curriculum of the Electrical Engineering Department. Instead, this material is introduced to students through skill training outside regular class schedules, with a focus on components of external lightning protection systems such as finials, down conductors, and grounding. The obligation to install lightning protection systems on buildings is mandated by Law No. 28 of 2002 and Government Regulation No. 36 of 2005. Protection from lightning requires precise planning to be effective in safeguarding buildings. Analysis of lightning strike phenomena and their consequences can be conducted by applying theoretical principles, such as electric fields, magnetic fields, induction voltage, and various theorems related to lightning strike phenomena. Students are provided with an understanding of the concept of lightning strikes, the potential dangers, and the damage they can cause to buildings, living beings, and electronic equipment both inside and outside the building that is affected by lightning strikes. In this simulation, each group is given images of buildings with varying roof shapes and sizes. The buildings are equipped with external lightning protection systems, including the number and placement of finials on the roof, which are then simulated. The effectiveness of the finials placed in these locations is tested to analyze the extent of protection, to ensure that the building is protected from the dangers of lightning strikes.  A total of 40 students participated in this activity, divided into 8 groups. Five groups successfully simulated the installation of finials to achieve an effective level of protection against lightning strikes, while the remaining three groups could only determine the extent of the protection area without being able to plan the installation efficiently. This training provides a benefit by enhancing the knowledge and skills of the students. The students' enthusiasm is reflected in active discussions and question-and-answer sessions that contribute to problem-solving.

Abstract

The issue of clean water availability in coastal areas remains a serious challenge, particularly due to increasing seawater intrusion, which causes groundwater to become brackish and unfit for consumption. This condition is also experienced by the community in Warmon Kokoda Village, Sorong Regency, who have long depended on well water sources with high salinity levels. This community service activity aimed to introduce and train residents in the use of single-roof solar desalination technology with a solar-powered cooling fan as an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solution for brackish water purification. The approach used was Participatory Action Research (PAR), in which the community was actively involved in socialization, learning, and hands-on practice in the manufacture and operation of the device. The results of this activity showed an increase in community knowledge about the working principles and benefits of solar desalination technology, as evidenced by the community's ability to conduct trials on the device. Technical tests showed that the device was able to reduce the salinity of brackish water from 5% to 0%, producing water suitable for consumption according to WHO standards, with good thermal efficiency for the household category. This activity had a significant impact in providing access to safe and potable water for the local community, as well as increasing independence in water resource management.

Abstract

Abstract

Global warming is an important global environmental issue for students to understand since junior high school (SMP) level. However, students' conceptual understanding of this material is still relatively low because it is abstract and often presented theoretically. This study aims to determine the improvement in junior high school students' understanding of the concept of global warming through the implementation of STEM-based learning using greenhouse effect experiments. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design of one-group pretest–posttest type. The subjects were 11 eighth-grade junior high school students. The research instruments were conceptual understanding tests given before (pretest) and after (posttest) the treatment, as well as observation sheets for the implementation of learning. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and N-Gain calculations. The results showed that the average posttest score (62.73) was higher than the average pretest score (54.55). However, the N-Gain calculation result of 0.18 is in the low category. This finding indicates that the implementation of STEM-based learning through the greenhouse effect experiment can improve students' understanding of the concept of global warming, although the improvement obtained is still relatively low. Therefore, STEM-based learning needs to be implemented sustainably and combined with other learning media to increase the effectiveness of students' conceptual understanding.
