Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical thinking process of gifted elementary school students in Tasikmalaya City in solving mathematical problems that include aspects of conceptual understanding, reasoning, problem solving, representation and mathematical connections. Data were collected through mathematical tests with five higher order thinking skill (HOTS) items, clinical interviews, and direct observations. Scoring reliability between two independent raters showed a high level of agreement (κ = 0.82). Data were analyzed qualitatively through data reduction, categorization, triangulation, and interpretation of emerging patterns. The subjects of the study were ten gifted students identified based on high mathematical ability scores in elementary schools in Tasikmalaya City. Data analysis used a qualitative approach with a case study design through the stages of data reduction to sort out relevant information, data presentation in the form of descriptions and categorization, data triangulation to validate findings from various sources, and drawing conclusions based on patterns that emerge from the data. The findings reveal that gifted students display time efficiency, multiple strategies, and reflective checking behavior in mathematical problem-solving. Of the ten students, one was in the very high category, seven were in the high category, and two were in the medium category. The most dominant indicators were mathematical reasoning and connections, while representation and conceptual understanding showed greater variation. Of the ten students, one student is in the very high category, seven students are in the high category, and two students are in the medium category. Each indicator implies targeted educational support: enrichment tasks for conceptual understanding, structured argumentation exercises for reasoning, open-ended and real-world tasks for problem solving, visual and model-based scaffolding for representation, and interdisciplinary activities for mathematical connections. These findings underscore the need for differentiated, problem-based, and creativity-oriented learning approaches to optimize the potential of gifted students in elementary schools.

Abstract

This activity aims to increase knowledge and benefits from different Tilapia cultivation using circular pond media with the Biofloc system. The activity was carried out by inviting consultants from the fields of food security, agriculture and fisheries, to explain the procedures for cultivation with the Biofloc system. The use of the Round Pool media was chosen as a solution to the lack of available land. From the cultivation of 3 varieties of tilapia, we found that each variety of tilapia has its own advantages. The Black Prima Tilapia variety outperformed the other 2 varieties in terms of growth, but Nirwana III Tilapia variety had the highest survival rate compared to the other 2 varieties. From these findings it can be concluded that those who are looking for fast growth can keep the Black Prima Tilapia fish. However, if you want to live long in order to get high yields, you can keep Nirwana III tilapia. Although Tilapia is not superior in terms of growth acceleration or Longevity, the advantage of Tilapia is its thicker flesh, possibly due to its smaller head size. Having the advantages of each variety of tilapia can be a consideration for readers to choose varieties of tilapia based on their goals and needs.

Abstract

This study is conducted to explore how self-concept correlates with mathematical connection skills among eight-grade students at SMPN 14 Tasikmalaya. The research method used is a survey method with a deskriptive quantitative approach. The population used in this study was all eight-grade students at SMPN 14 Tasikmalaya. This study applied simple random sampling, resulting in a sample of 36 students. Data collection was conducted through the distribution of self-concept questionnaires and mathematical connection ability tests. The research instruments used were self-concept questionnaires and essay questions to measure mathematical connection ability. The data analysis technique used to test the hypothesis was the Pearson product-moment correlation test, preceded by prerequisite analysis tests, namely normality and linearity tests. The results of the data analysis showed that there was a positive and significant correlation between self-concept and students' mathematical connection abilities. Students' self-concept was categorized as moderate, and their mathematical connection abilities was also in the moderate category. These findings indicate that the more positive the self-concept of students, the higher their mathematical connection abilities

Abstract

The low level of students’ mathematical problem-solving ability remains a major issue in mathematics learning, particularly when instructional practices fail to actively engage students and to integrate cultural contexts relevant to their daily lives. This study was motivated by the limited integration of the Inquiry Learning Model with the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach, especially within Islamic boarding school settings, and by the suboptimal achievement in solving problems related to the System of Linear Equations in Three Variables. This research aimed to examine (1) whether there is a significant effect of the Inquiry Learning Model integrated with CRT on students’ mathematical problem-solving ability, and (2) the magnitude of such an effect. A quasi-experimental method with a posttest-only control group design was employed. The population consisted of all tenth-grade female students of SMA Terpadu Riyadlul ‘Ulum in the 2025/2026 academic year. Samples were selected through purposive sampling and cluster random sampling, resulting in class X-1 as the experimental group and class X-4 as the control group. The instrument was an essay test constructed based on Polya’s four problem-solving indicators and validated by experts. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, Independent Samples t-test, and coefficient of determination. The findings revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups (p = 0.000 < 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.436) indicates that 43.6% of the variance in mathematical problem-solving ability was explained by the applied learning model, which falls into a moderate effect category. Thus, the integration of the Inquiry Learning Model with the CRT approach significantly enhances students’ mathematical problem-solving ability and is recommended as an effective contextual learning alternative in mathematics education.
