Abstract

The traditional herbal medicine (jamu) industry in Indonesia faces challenges in applying halal principles due to the common use of non-halal ingredients in jamu production. Jamu is in high demand in Indonesia, a largely Muslim country with a thriving halal economy. This article reviews the challenges and prospects of implementing halal principles in Indonesia's jamu industry. The research methods employed include literature review and analysis of relevant regulations and industry practices in jamu production. The research findings indicate that the presence of non-halal ingredients in some jamu products poses obstacles to meeting halal requirements. The discussion proposes strategies and potential avenues to enhance the implementation of halal principles in the jamu industry, such as developing alternative raw materials and obtaining halal certification. The conclusion drawn from this article is that implementing halal principles in the jamu industry holds promising prospects but requires close collaboration between the government, producers, and other stakeholders.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the language politeness employed by the major character in The Pride and Prejudice novel. The method used was descriptive qualitative. The researchers found: first, the data of positive politeness strategies and the data of negative politeness strategies were in line with Brown and Levinson's theory, 10 positive types of politeness strategies.  The mostly used were: paying attention to the speaker’s interests, wants, requirements and commodities. When the speaker truly means “you” or “me”, he can employ the strategy of inclusiveness form to invoke the cooperative presumptions and rectify FTAs, giving or asking for explanations, insisting on reciprocity, goodness, sympathy, understanding, and cooperation. Out of 8 negative types of politeness strategies, the mostly used were: adopting a customarily indirect stance, not taking compliance for granted, expressing pessimism about one’s capacity or willingness, to reduce the burden, as cited from  the FTAs as an illustration of a general principle. Then, three factors influenced the use of polite language, namely: social distance, power, and degree of impositions.

Abstract

This community service project aimed to enhance digital literacy among the students of Pondok Pesantren Sabilul Muttaqin Daramista Lenteng Sumenep by implementing a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. The project focused on equipping students with critical digital skills to navigate the internet responsibly, create digital content, and engage with social media as tools for religious outreach. The training consisted of seminars on positive internet use, workshops on journalism and article writing, and sessions on digital content creation. The results of the intervention demonstrated a significant improvement in the students’ ability to evaluate digital content, produce well-structured articles, and manage digital platforms such as websites and social media accounts. Furthermore, the project fostered greater involvement of the Pesantren leadership and students in managing digital platforms for the dissemination of Islamic knowledge. The intervention’s success highlights the importance of digital literacy in educational institutions, especially in the context of Islamic education, where access to digital resources can enhance both learning and outreach. This study provides a model for integrating digital literacy into religious institutions and offers recommendations for expanding such initiatives to other Pesantren.

Abstract

This research and development (R&D) activity aims to develop a reliable, practical, and effective inquiry learning model that includes preliminary research, product design and development, and assessment. In this development process, the stages outlined by Plomp and Nieveen are adopted. Forty pharmacy students from the pharmacy study program of a state university in Malang, East Java, took part in learning during the 2021-2022 academic year. A questionnaire with Likert Scale 4 categories is a research tool. The expert validation test revealed that "Eligible" is the average result of the validator's assessment criteria. It is possible to immediately implement product results that reach 90.25% on developed media and 89.60% for digital teaching materials with interactive digital flip-book concepts. In terms of the practicality of the products developed, the average V values achieved were 0.86, 0.92, and 0.85, respectively. The results of hypothesis testing in the implementation show that Sig. value (Sig. (2-tailed)) was 0.002, which is smaller than the 0.05 significance level. Accordingly, the research findings confirm a notable improvement in students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills through the implementation of the inquiry learning model through multimedia.

Abstract

Background: The integration of information and communication technology (ICT) has transformed the educational landscape, including translation and interpretation education. Technological advancements, such as machine translators (MT), have driven the need for innovative teaching methods that enhance both the effectiveness of instruction and students' translation skills.Aim: This study aims to examine the effectiveness of teaching translation and interpretation courses using an ICT-integrated and pedagogical approach.Method: This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test, involving 26 students selected through random sampling. Data were analyzed using a paired samples t-test to measure significant differences in learning outcomes before and after the implementation of the ICT-based teaching method. Results: The findings indicate that the ICT-integrated and pedagogical approach effectively improves students' translation skills. The paired samples t-test analysis revealed a significant p-value of less than 0.05 (p-value 0.00). Overall, students perceived that the use of Machine Translators (MT) significantly facilitated their translation process, especially when structured practice was provided. Conclusion: The integration of an ICT-based approach in translation instruction has been proven effective in enhancing students' skills. Understanding the concerns and motivations of both students and educators enables curriculum developers to address learning barriers, boost confidence in the use of machine translators, and guide students toward the efficient utilization of technology.

Abstract

Background: The rapid adoption of technology in education has transformed the teaching and learning process, shifting from traditional classroom settings to hybrid environments that combine in-person and online learning. Microsoft Teams has become a prominent platform in digital learning, particularly during the pandemic, yet its sustainability in supporting long-term educational goals remains underexplored.Aim: This study aims to evaluate the sustainability of Microsoft Teams in digital learning environments through the perspectives of mathematics teachers in Surabaya. Methods: A quantitative-descriptive analytical approach was adopted. Data were collected via an online questionnaire involving 83 mathematics teachers from the Community of Mathematics Teachers (MGMP) in Surabaya. The survey examined task technology fit (TTF) and the use of Microsoft Teams LMS in teaching practices. Descriptive statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 26 to assess the validity and reliability of the questionnaire. Results: The findings indicate that mathematics teachers generally hold a positive perception of Microsoft Teams sustainability in supporting digital learning. Task technology fit (TTF) significantly influenced teachers views on the platform effectiveness, productivity, and its impact on their teaching performance and students outcomes. However, challenges such as technical issues and varying levels of digital literacy impacted its full potential. Conclusion: The study concludes that incorporating Microsoft Teams as a core component of the education curriculum is vital for its long-term sustainability in digital learning environments. Recommendations include addressing existing challenges to optimize its usage and enhance its role in future educational practices.
