Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Free radicals are atoms, groups of atoms, or molecules that have one or more unpaired electrons in the outermost orbital and are highly reactive. Free radicals are more able to attack cells in the body, especially those that are vulnerable, causing various diseases such as premature aging, cancer, liver, and other degenerative diseases. Antioxidants are compounds that can be considered as free radical reactivity. Sources of natural antioxidants are plants which generally contain phenolic compounds. Phenolic or polyphenolic compounds can be in the form of flavonoids. The ability of flavonoids as antioxidants has been widely studied, where flavonoids have the ability to reduce free radicals and also act as anti-free radicals. Kepok banana hump contains flavonoid compounds. The aim of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol extracts of kepok banana weeds using the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method based on the IC50 value. The principle of this method is the decrease in color intensity or absorbance of the DPPH solution which is proportional to the increase in the concentration of antioxidant compounds. This research was carried out experimentally, collection and processing of plants, experience of plant materials, manufacture of extracts, and testing of antioxidant activity. The kepok banana weevil was extracted by maceration method using various solvents based on the level of polarity, namely n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol in stages. The extraction results obtained thick extracts of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanol as much as 2.12 g (0.70%), 1.09 g (0.36%), and 4.64 g (1.54%) . The third antioxidant activity test of kepok banana weevil extract using the DPPH method using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 519.0 nm with a series of concentrations of 100 g/mL, 150 g/mL, 200 g/mL, 250 g/mL, and 300 g/mL. The results of the antioxidant activity test using the DPPH method showed that the n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol extracts of kepok banana weeds had IC50 values of 197.5 g/mL and 257.30 g/mL, 142.51 g/mL, respectively. The ethanol extract had moderate antioxidant activity compared to the n-hexane and ethyl acetate extracts.

Abstract

Stroke infarction is a condition caused by an interruption in blood supply to the brain due to blockage, leading to loss of motor and sensory functions. This results in limb weakness, which impacts daily activities. Mirror therapy is a rehabilitative intervention involving the neuronal system to improve muscle strength in stroke patients with limb weakness. This study aims to evaluate the application of mirror therapy as a nursing intervention to enhance muscle strength in infarction stroke patients. Using a case study approach, data were collected through anamnesis, observation, physical examination, and medical records. Four nursing problems were identified: physical mobility disorders, verbal communication disorders, self-care deficits, and risk of falling. Mirror therapy was employed as the primary intervention for physical mobility disorders. Despite four days of therapy at a frequency of once per day, no significant improvement in muscle strength was observed in the patient with hemiparesis due to infarction stroke. It is recommended that mirror therapy be implemented over a longer duration and frequency for optimal results in nursing practice

Abstract

Fast and precise service must be done in handling patients in the emergency room. Services in the emergency room can be hampered if there is a condition of accumulation of patients in the emergency room which is usually caused by an imbalance between the number of patients entering the emergency room with the number of nurses. This study aims to determine the relationship between nurse characteristics and length of stay (LOS) in the emergency department of dr. Slamet Garut Regional General Hospital. This research design uses cross sectional with a sample size of 50 people. The sampling technique uses total sampling. Data collection will use a questionnaire. Data analysis of gender variables (nominal) and length of stay (ordinal) uses the chi-square test, while for variables of age, education level, length of work, (ordinal) and length of stay (ordinal) uses the spearman-rho test. The research location will be carried out in the emergency department of General Hospital dr. Slamet Garut for 2 months from August to September 2025. The results of the study show that no relationship between the educational level of nurses and the length of stay of patients in the emergency room with a p-value of 0.40, no relationship between the gender of nurses and the length of stay of patients with a p-value of 0.94, no relationship between the age of nurses and the length of stay of patients with a p-value of 0.21, and no relationship between the work experience of nurses and the length of stay of patients with a p-value of 0.91. The high workload of nurses can lead to fatigue, loss of concentration, narrowed focus and attention, which impacts the speed and accuracy of nurses in performing emergency procedures on patients, thereby increasing the length of stay of patients in the emergency room. Overall, there was no correlation between the age, gender, educational level, and work experience of nurses and the length of stay of patients in the emergency room at dr. Slamet Garut Hospital.
