Abstract

Introduction: The number of IUD contraceptive users has declined, influenced by factors such as anxiety. Individuals with anxiety experience psychological distress, necessitating complementary therapy. Alternative treatments include ylang-ylang aromatherapy and Slow Deep Breathing. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of ylang-ylang aromatherapy and Slow Deep Breathing in reducing anxiety among post-placental IUD users at Mangusada Hospital. Methods: A quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design was used, involving 70 postpartum IUD users divided into experimental (n=35) and control (n=35) groups. Anxiety was measured using the NRS-A questionnaire before and after a 15-minute intervention. Ethical approval was obtained (070/6854/RSDM/2024). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Kolmogorov-Smirnov for normality, Wilcoxon Signed-Rank, and Mann–Whitney U tests, with a 95% confidence level. Results: There was no significant difference in pre-test anxiety between the groups (mean: 5.69 ± 0.900, p = 1.000). Post-test results showed a greater reduction in the treatment group (mean: 3.03 ± 0.664) than in the control group (mean: 3.83 ± 0.785). The Mann-Whitney U test confirmed a significant difference in anxiety levels post-intervention (Z = -3.998, p = 0.000). The effect size (r = 0.676) indicates a large impact of the intervention. Conclusion: Ylang-ylang aromatherapy and slow deep breathing are effective complementary interventions for reducing anxiety in post-placental IUD users.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is the most prevalent complaint among women during menstruation, and it might diminish productivity. Therapies to alleviate dysmenorrhea encompass breathing relaxation, yoga, aromatherapy, warm compresses, hypnosis, and acupressure. Hypnosis is a technique for engaging with an individual's subconscious mind during a state of relaxation. Hypnosis can stimulate the secretion of endorphin chemicals in the body. Nadhi Sodhana is a nasal breathing technique that enhances overall bodily strength, optimizes the respiratory system, eliminates toxins, facilitates oxygenation, and efficiently expels carbon dioxide. The purpose of this research is to determine the effectiveness of the combination of Five Finger Hypnosis and Nadhi Sodana in reducing the pain of adolescent dysmenorrhea in Mekarbuwana Village. This research used a pre-experimental research design, a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 40 teenage girls who experienced dysmenorrhea in Mekarbuwana Village with a purposive sampling technique with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research results revealed that 77.5% of the participants experienced moderate pain before receiving the intervention (mean: 4.725). Following the intervention, 66.5% reported experiencing mild pain (mean: 1.375). The bivariate test using Wilcoxon shows that the p-value is 0.000. There is a significant difference in dysmenorrhea pain in adolescents in Mekarbuwana village before and after being given a combination of five-finger hypnosis and Nadhi Sodana. The combination of five-finger hypnosis with Nadhi Sodhana can reduce dysmenorrhea pain in adolescents. This research is expected to serve as a reference for a simple method that adolescents can perform independently to reduce dysmenorrhea using five-finger hypnosis and Nadhi Sodhana.

Abstract

Pregnancy-related psychological changes might lead to sleep difficulties. Sleep disturbances are common among pregnant women in Indonesia, accounting for approximately 64% of the cases. Hatha yoga can help pregnant women overcome their sleep difficulties. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of hatha yoga on the sleep quality of the third trimester of pregnant women. The research design used Quasy Experimental with non-equivalent control groups. Purposive sampling was used to identify 44 pregnant women in their third trimester, with 24 in the intervention group and 24 in the control group. Data collection used the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire, data analysis consisted of descriptive and comparative analysis. The study's findings revealed that both the control and treatment groups had poor sleep quality prior to the intervention. After receiving the intervention, the treatment group's average sleep quality was good, but the control group's average sleep quality was low. The Mann Whitney Test results indicated that Zcount = 5.649 > Ztabel = 1.96, with a P value of 0.000 < α0.05. These findings demonstrated that hatha yoga has an impact on the sleep quality of the third trimester of pregnant women. It can be inferred that hatha yoga helps to calm the body and relieve tension. Reduced muscle tone will lead to improved sleep quality. Health facilities are advised to employ hatha yoga as an intervention to address sleep disturbances in pregnant women, hence improving sleep quality

Abstract

Introduction: Adolescents often face psychological challenges such as low mindfulness and self-esteem, which can increase their vulnerability to emotional distress. Nadi Sodhana Pranayama and Self-Hypnosis have been identified as mind–body techniques that may improve emotional regulation and self-perception, yet their combined effect in adolescent populations is understudied. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of combined Nadi Sodhana Pranayama and Self-Hypnosis interventions in enhancing mindfulness and self-esteem among female adolescents. Methods: We used a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group structure. Purposive sampling identified forty-seven seventh-grade female students from the SMP Negeri Abiansemal; these students were split into treatment (n = 20) and control (n = 20) groups. Twice daily, for three straight days, the intervention consisted in ten minutes of Nadi Sodhana mixed with fifteen minutes of guided self-hypnosis. The five-facet mindfulness questionnaire (FFMQ) and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) were used in pretest and post-test evaluations. T tests both paired and independent helped to examine the data. The STIKES Bina Usada Bali Ethics Committee (number 081/EA/KEPK-BUB-2025) gave ethical approval. Results: The treatment group showed significant improvements in mindfulness (p = 0.004) and self-esteem (p = 0.015) compared with the control group. No significant changes were observed in the control group. The between-group effect size was moderate for mindfulness (Cohen’s d = 0.40) and large for self-esteem (Cohen’s d = 0.96), indicating the practical impact of the intervention. Conclusion: The combination of Nadi Sodhana Pranayama and Self-Hypnosis is effective in enhancing mindfulness and self-esteem in adolescents. This approach is feasible for school-based mental health programmes.
