Abstract

Despite the fact that Indonesia has established nutrition and health measures to prevent childhood malnutrition, more than 70% of children aged 2 to 5 consume less iron than the Indonesian dietary recommendations. Iron deficiency harms children's cognitive and motor development, increase morbidity. Ascorbic acid prevents stomach iron accumulation, inhibiting nonheme absorption. Iron-deficient kids don't eat enough. 65 to 72% of children's daily calories are consumed at home, hence the environment is crucial. The purpose of this study is to see if the iron and vitamin C consumption of children aged 2 to 6 in Pejagalan, North Jakarta, is related to their eating environment. There were 191 samples examined. To assess children's intake, 2x24h food recalls were performed. A modified version of the NHANES CBQ was used to assess the home food environment. For each response, 1 signified "never" and 4 meant "always." SPSS Version 20 was used to perform Spearman correlation and multiple linear regression. The iron and vitamin consumption of the subjects was lower than the estimated average requierement (EAR) for Indonesia. It was shown that people who had more access to fruits and vegetables ingested more iron and vitamin C. Iron consumption was enhanced by fruits, vegetables, sweets, and SSB. Fruit accessibility (p<0.05) and availability (p<0.05) were related to vitamin C consumption. There are a variety of home food environment characteristics linked with the availability and accessibility of food that are related to a child's consumption, particularly of micronutrients

Abstract

Poor linear growth, currently defined as inadequate height to growth standards defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), is still a major problem in low-middle-income countries (LMICs) including Indonesia. The national survey results from 36.8% in 2007 to 30.8% in 2018 showed small differences in under-five years old children with height-for-age-Z-score less than -2 standard deviation (HAZ < -2 SD) from the growth reference or stunted.1 Though the Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey results showed an improvement in the stunting rate to 21.6% in 2022, the data revealed large regional disparities, ranging from 8% in Bali to 35.3% in East Nusa Tenggara.2 It is known that for children with stunted growth in early life, the risk of impaired health, mortality, and delayed neurocognitive and motor development is heightened. Moreover, tend to have a long-term effect of decreased performance in education, lower productivity and socioeconomics, and a higher risk of chronic diseases in adulthood.1,3 Stunting has many associated factors, including socioeconomic inequality, geographic differences, maternal factors, such as education, age, nutrition status, and infection; short birth intervals, low birth weight, and preterm birth, food insecurity, practices of feeding, nutrient deficiencies, such as protein, iron, zinc, calcium, and vitamins, childhood morbidity, and environmental. Low birth weight and length, unimproved sanitation, and low protein intake are the leading risk factors in developing countries, especially in the horticulture area.4,5

Abstract

AND diet quality" "meal OR food preparation AND diet quality".

Abstract

Introduction: Inadequate energy intake was prevalent among women of reproductive age, which may contribute to poor diet. Having great concern towards health and nutrition may play a role in shaping eating habit and food-related behavior to achieve a healthy diet. This study aims to examine the association between health concern and energy intake, while considering other factors such as cooking frequency and having food away from home. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out in an urban slum area in Jakarta, involving 233 mothers of young children through consecutive sampling. Data was collected through interview using structured questionnaire, including 2x24-hour dietary recall. All statistical analysis was performed using SPSS Version 20.Results: Energy intake of most subjects did not meet the recommendation. There was no significant correlation between health concern measured by General Health Interest Scale and energy intake. The frequency of having take-out food was a significant predictor of the energy intake. Additionally, a significant negative correlation between health concern and having take-out food was found. Conclusion: Having take-out food was associated with energy intake. Provision of health and nutrition information in the food stores might help to increase health concern to shape a healthier diet. Thus, a collaborative effort targeting both food sellers and customers is essential.

Abstract

Background: Children generally facing food avoidance or food refusal behaviour and it may affect their food consumption. But there is limited information on food avoidance behaviour among Indonesian children. Therefore, this study aimed to assess whether energy intake and body weight are influenced by food avoidance behaviour in children aged 2-6 years in North Jakarta. Methods: Participants (N=168) were recruited between February – March 2020. Data collection was obtained via interviews with the mother or caregiver of the children. Food avoidance behaviour consisting of satiety responsiveness, slowness in eating, emotional under-eating, and food fussiness was measured with the Child Eating Behaviour Questionnaire. The child’s weight and dietary intake were assessed using a digital weighing scale and 2 x 24 hours food recall. Spearman test was performed to analyse the correlation between these variables. Multivariate analysis was done using linear regression to determine predictors of a child’s body weight and energy intake. Results: Energy intake among children was below the recommendation, and it was significantly correlated with the child’s body weight. Satiety responsiveness was negatively correlated with the child’s body weight (r = -0.166; p-value < 0.05) and energy intake (r = -0.210; p-value < 0.05). After running a linear regression test, we found that satiety responsiveness along with family income and child’s age was a significant predictor of energy intake among children. Conclusions: Children who are more responsive to satiety had lower body weight and energy intake. Understanding the child’s food avoidance behaviour is useful for designing intervention programs related to optimizing intake in children and malnutrition.

Abstract

Introduction Working in oil and gas industries was found to be associated with unhealthy lifestyle, obesity, and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). This study aimed to systematically review the dietary intake, obesity status, and identify possible workplace health promotion strategies for oil and gas setting. Methods: This literature review was conducted through a comprehensive search of Scopus database. Search terms included diet (and synonym), worker (and synonyms), oil and gas (and synonym). The search was limited to paper in English and Indonesian. Combinations of the keyword yielded 76 papers, of which 13 articles were relevant. Results: Reviewed studies implied that diet consist high amount of fat, particularly saturated fat, and cholesterol, with low intake of dietary fiber. Fatigue, boredom, and inadequate sleep may influence unhealthy food choices. All studies revealed that mean BMI among oil and gas workers was found to be higher than general adult population, ranged from 24 to almost 30 kg/m2. Possible health promotion components to be modified are knowledge and beliefs, self-care, peer support, food availability and time restriction at cafeterias. Conclusion: It is confirmed that obesity and NCDs prevalence were high in oil and gas worker, however the updated studies addressing their dietary intake are needed. Health promotion initiative made by oil and gas company are unlikely to be found in scientific paper. There is a need for more health promotion program that scientifically designed so that the outcome and cost effectiveness can be measured properly
