Abstract

Rhaphidophora pinnata leaves are one of the herbal plants that have pharmacological effects. Previous research has shown that ekor naga leaves contain secondary metabolites with tonic pharmacological effects, including the ability to heal cut wounds, as well as antihyperglycemic and antidiabetic properties. This research aims to demonstrate the potential of ekor naga leaf extract as a gastroprotective agent. The extract was evaluated using standard methods, including determination of water content, ash content, phytochemical screening, and compound identification by LC-MS. Gastroprotective testing was carried out by dividing the treatment group into six groups, including the Group 1: normal group, Group 2: negative control (Sodium CMC 0.5%),  Group 3: positive control (Sucralfate), Group 4: 125mg/KgBW extract, Group 5: 250 mg/KgBW extract, and Group 6: 500mg/KgBW extract. The results of the observations were in the form of gastric ulcer severity scores and histological images of the gastric organs. Gastroprotective testing revealed significant differences between the treatment groups and the negative control group (p<0.05). The 500 mg/kgBW extract exhibited the most effective gastroprotective effect, with a 42.5% inhibition rate and minimal inflammation observed both macroscopically and microscopically. These results suggest that ethanol extract from ekor naga leaves may serve as an alternative or complementary therapy for gastritis.

Abstract

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-related disorder characterized by hypertension and proteinuria and is closely associated with oxidative stress, inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and apoptosis. Olive leaves (Olea europaea L.) are rich in phenolic compounds with well-documented antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, making them a promising source of natural therapeutic agents. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of phenolic compounds from the ethanolic extract of olive leaves as candidates for treating preeclampsia using a molecular docking approach. The two-dimensional structures of selected phenolic compounds, including kaempferol, luteolin, and oleuropein, were obtained from the PubChem database and prepared as ligands. Target proteins associated with the pathophysiology of preeclampsia were prepared using AutoDock Tools by removing water molecules and separating native ligands. Molecular docking simulations were conducted to analyze binding affinities and interaction patterns between the phenolic compounds and the target proteins. The results demonstrated that all tested compounds exhibited favorable binding energies and formed stable interactions with key amino acid residues at the active sites of the target proteins. Among the compounds evaluated, oleuropein showed the strongest binding affinity, followed by luteolin and kaempferol. These findings suggest that phenolic compounds from the ethanolic extract of olive leaves have potential as therapeutic agents for preeclampsia, possibly through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms. However, further in vitro and in vivo studies are required to validate these computational findings and confirm their biological efficacy.

Abstract

Abstract. Rahayu A, Rochman N, Nahraeni W, Yuliawati. 2025. Effects of fermented cow urine on the growth and quality of katuk (Sauropus androgynus) accessions from West Java, Indonesia. Asian J Agric 9: 831-843. This study examined the growth, yield, and nutritional quality of katuk using local germplasm and natural nitrogen sources. The objective was to evaluate the performance of ten katuk accessions from West Java, Indonesia, and to assess the potential of fermented cow urine as a supplementary nitrogen source relative to urea. A factorial completely randomized design with three replications was employed, consisting of ten accessions (Sarampad, Maleber1, Maleber2, Kadudampit1, Kadudampit2, Gegerbitung, Dramaga, Cinangneng1, Cinangneng2, and Katulampa) and six fertilizer compositions (0% cow urine + 100% Urea; 100% cow urine + 0% Urea; 75% cow urine + 25% Urea; 50% cow urine + 50% Urea; 25% cow urine +75% Urea; 0% cow urine + 0% Urea). Sarampad, Maleber1, and Maleber2 exhibited superior fresh and dry harvest weight, vitamin C, chlorophyll a and b content, while maintaining low nitrate accumulation. Plant height under 100% cow urine, shoot number and vitamin C under 25% cow urine + 75% urea, and chlorophyll a, b, and total chlorophyll under 50% cow urine + 50% Urea were higher than under 100% Urea, with superiority values of 14.7%, 19.0%, 20.2%, 14.6%, 18.2%, and 15.9%, respectively. These findings indicate that fermented cow urine may serve as a low-cost supplementary nitrogen source for katuk; however, its use as a full replacement for synthetic nitrogen fertilizer requires further validation under field conditions.

Abstract

The availability of clean water is a major human requirement. Suku Anak Dalam community communities often struggle to access clean water sources. The river becomes one of the sources of clean water used to meet the needs of water, but the condition of the river does not meet the standard for use. The purpose of this community devotion is to do clean water counseling and demonstration about the manufacture of water filter media in Suku Anak Dalam in Lubuk Kayu Aro, Mestong District of Muaro Jambi, Jambi. This activity will be expected to improve the health quality of the Suku Anak Dalam in Lubuk Kayu Aro. The method used was counseling to the community of Suku Anak Dalam in Lubuk Kayu Aro and did a demonstration of a simple water filter media. Materials needed include sieve containers, bottled water, gravel, palm-fiber, sand, and foam. The result of this community devotion is increasing public knowledge about the importance of clean water in life. In addition, people can know how to create water filter media and apply it in daily life. Keywords: clean water, Suku Anak Dalam, water filter media
