Abstract

Background: Touch rugby is a high-intensity, non-contact sport requiring agility, speed, and coordination. This study analyzes injury distribution, treatment effectiveness, and preventive measures among youth touch rugby players. Objectives: This study examined injury patterns among adolescent female athletes during the 2024 All-Girls Touch Rugby Championship (AGTR 2024). Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted using medical reports from the two-day All-Girls Touch Rugby Championship 2024 (AGTR 2024) at Universiti Putra Malaysia. The study examined 484 female athletes (ages 9–18 years), with 176 injuries recorded and categorized as soft tissue injuries (52.3%), abrasions (23.9%), and sprains (14.2%). Descriptive statistics were used to assess injury distribution, while chi-square analysis (χ² = 10.45, p < 0.01) evaluated the relationship between injury type and age group. Results: Younger players (10–14 years) sustained more abrasions (60%), whereas older athletes (15–18 years) had a higher incidence of soft tissue injuries (68%). Injuries increased by 66.7% on Day 2, highlighting the impact of cumulative fatigue and tournament intensity. Ice therapy (68%) and bandaging (55%) were the most utilized treatments, with only 7% of cases requiring outpatient referrals. Conclusions: Findings underscore the need for structured warm-ups, enhanced hydration protocols, and targeted strength training to reduce injury risks. The study emphasizes the role of injury surveillance, playing surface improvements, and gender-specific training programs in preventing injuries and enhancing athlete safety. Implementing evidence-based preventive strategies can promote the long-term development and sustainability of touch rugby for adolescent athletes. Future research should focus on longitudinal injury tracking and tailored intervention strategies.

Abstract

There is limited information available regarding special education in Indonesia. Nonetheless, the development of motor skills is crucial for students with Down syndrome in an inclusive educational setting. Purpose: This research aims to assess the fundamental locomotor skills of students with Down Syndrome and to explore whether there are differences in motor performance based on sex. Method: A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, with a sample of 20 students, consisting of 10 males and 10 females with Down Syndrome. The Test of Gross Motor Development-2 (TGMD-2), created by Ulrich (2000), served as the evaluation tool. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and independent samples t-tests, utilizing SPSS version 29.0 and Microsoft Excel software. Results: The subtest component of jumping achieved the highest mean score (M = 4.1, SD = 1.944), whereas hopping showed the lowest performance (M = 2.35, SD = 1.182). About 70% of participants (n = 14) displayed average basic locomotor movement skills. Overall, there were no significant differences in locomotor movement skill performance based on gender (p = 0.195 > 0.05). Conclusion: Students with Down Syndrome showcase a range of skill levels across different movement abilities, with jumping identified as one of their strengths that requires intervention. The outcomes of this study aim to establish a valuable database regarding the locomotor skill profiles of students with Down syndrome in Indonesia, which is pertinent to inclusive education, and to provide a fresh perspective on the exploration of gender-related locomotor skills

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the most frequent freestyle swimming technique errors among elementary school rookie swimmers and examine how these errors affect swimming performance. A qualitative case study approach was used, utilizing the Front Crawl Technique Assessment instrument. The participants were 26 rookie swimmers who completed a 50-meter swim test, during which their technique errors and completion times were analyzed. The most frequent errors included kicking too deep, underreaching during entry, and lifting the head forward during inhalation. Pearson’s correlation analysis revealed a strong positive relationship between the number of technical errors and swim completion time (r = 0.95 for males; r = 0.93 for females, p < 0.01). This indicates that higher error rates were associated with slower swim times. These findings underscore the critical importance of technical precision in swimming performance and highlight the value of an objective assessment tool for evaluating and improving technique in young rookie swimmers. These results provide valuable guidance for coaches to design developmentally appropriate and targeted training programs that address specific technical weaknesses in rookie swimmers. Future researchers can build on these findings by testing whether targeted technique-correction programs accelerate skill acquisition in other swimming strokes or age groups

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the physical fitness level of adolescent track and field athletes aged 13–15 years in Tangerang City. Physical fitness plays an important role in athlete performance, especially in athletics that require speed, strength, endurance, and muscle explosive power. The research method used is a quantitative descriptive approach with a purposive sampling technique. The sample consisted of 35 club athletes and 35 athletes from coaching centers in the area. The instrument used was the Indonesian Physical Fitness Test (TKJI) which includes 50-meter running, hanging body lifting, lying sitting, vertical jump, and middle-distance running (1000 meters for men and 800 meters for women). Data analysis was carried out using the independent sample t-test with SPSS software. The results showed that there were significant differences in two components in each group. In the men's group, significant differences were found in the 50-meter run and 1000-meter run. While in the women's group, significant differences occurred in the vertical jump and 800-meter run. Other components showed similar performance between groups. These results indicate the need for a more specific training approach based on the results of each group's fitness evaluation. These findings not only provide practical contributions in the development of adolescent athletes, but also enrich academic studies on physical fitness during the growth period.   Keywords: physical fitness, athletics, rutuyouth athletes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze manipulative motor skills in students with Down Syndrome at SLBN-A Citereup, Cimahi City, and to examine the influence of room conditions on their motor performance. This study employs a descriptive approach involving 20 students selected based on the consent and willingness of their accompanying teachers. The instruments used include the manipulative movement subtests from the Test of Gross Motor Development-2 (TGMD-2) and a room condition observation sheet. Validity was tested using Pearson Product Moment correlation, while reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s Alpha. Statistical assumptions were tested through normality and homogeneity tests, followed by Spearman’s correlation and One-Way ANOVA to test the influence between variables. The results showed that the instrument had high validity and reliability (α = 0.910), with the best performance on the throwing and catching items, and the highest difficulty on the dribbling and hitting items. Despite variations in room conditions, the correlation and ANOVA results indicated that room conditions did not significantly affect students' manipulative motor skills (p > 0.05). The discussion indicates that internal factors such as age and motor experience play a more significant role in achieving motor skills than environmental conditions. This study recommends the use of more diverse experimental designs and more detailed sample classifications in future research to expand understanding of the factors influencing motor skills in children with special needs
