Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strategic management of SMPIT (Integrated Islamic Junior High School) An Nahl Percikan Iman Jambi in building relationships with the community, using the Nine-Step Strategic Planning theory and Gitney’s Hierarchy of Needs. This qualitative research employs a phenomenological approach, with data collection techniques including interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that SMPIT An Nahl Percikan Iman implements a series of well-planned and directed strategic management efforts to strengthen relationships with the community, including: (1) fostering connections through social service activities, (2) collaborating with educational institutions, and (3) actively engaging parents in school activities. A key strength of the communication efforts at SMPIT An Nahl Percikan Iman lies in the involvement of middle-class parents, who actively support the school’s programs. The school’s public relations initiatives are also supported by: (1) the utilization of social media, (2) participation in special events, and (3) backing from the Integrated Islamic Schools Network (JSIT). In the Islamic educational institution management context, these efforts demonstrate a comprehensive strategic approach, involving in-depth analysis of internal and external conditions, reinforcing an Islamic values-based curriculum, and collaborating with the community, government, and parents. Supporting factors include strong leadership, social acceptance, and adequate infrastructure, while challenges encompass perceptions of high education costs and social dynamics. This strategy reflects a modern, adaptive, and values-based approach to Islamic education.

Abstract

This study examines the role of school principals' leadership in shaping teachers' character in Islamic schools (madrasahs) in Jambi City, Indonesia. Using an interpretive phenomenological approach, the research explores the lived experiences of both principals and teachers in five madrasah institutions in Seberang, Jambi City. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and participant observations conducted over eight months. The findings reveal four key dimensions of principal leadership that significantly influence the shaping of teachers' character: (1) value-based leadership modeling, (2) development of institutional culture, (3) facilitation of reflective professional development, and (4) integration of spiritual-professional domains. This study contributes to the understanding of educational leadership in a religiously-oriented context, showing how school principals play a vital role as agents in developing teachers' character, which in turn impacts overall educational quality. The research addresses a significant gap in the literature by examining the influence of leadership on the formation of teachers' character in the specific cultural and religious context of Indonesian Islamic schools.

Abstract

The article scrutinizes the teacher-student respected relationship within the talaqqȋ and ḥalaqa traditions of Salafis Boarding Schools. The purpose of the study is to explore the psychological dimensions of this relationship, specifically recognized in Acehnese society as “Ta'zhim keu Guree” (respect to the teacher) as the main âdâb (virtues) within this bond, focusing on the principle of respect. This study employed a participatory action research methodology, using in-depth interviews and participant observation as the primary research instruments, conducted at the Dayah Nurul Hikam Al-Waliyah in Kota Langsa, Aceh Province. The study found that the teacher-student relationship within the talaqqȋ and ḥalaqa tradition acts as a dynamic channel for fostering emotional well-being and psychological growth among students. The respectful bond emerging from this relationship nurtures well-rounded individuals committed to intellectual and moral growth. Ẩdâb, as an Islamic cornerstone, epitomizes respect, humility, and gratitude, bolstering emotional well-being and ethics. The findings suggest that these traditions can be a valuable model for educational institutions aiming to promote emotional well-being, psychological growth, moral ethics, and alignment with Islamic teachings. Additionally, âdâb is highlighted as a valuable tool for promoting positive social change in communities.

Abstract

This study critically analyzes the implementation of competency-based human resource development (HRD) practices among educators (asatidzah) in Salafiyah Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia’s Riau Islands. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were obtained through interviews, participant observations, document analysis, and focus group discussions across three pesantren. The analysis reveals persistent gaps in pedagogical, social, personal, and professional competencies despite the educators’ strong foundation in religious knowledge. HRD initiatives are found to be fragmented, lacking systematic planning, evaluation mechanisms, and alignment with contemporary educational standards. These findings indicate an urgent need for structured, contextually relevant HRD strategies that are both sustainable and responsive to the dual imperatives of Islamic education and modern pedagogical demands. This study contributes to the discourse on educational capacity building in Islamic institutions and calls for future research using mixed-method or longitudinal approaches to examine the systemic effects of competency-based HRD interventions.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the lecturers’ ability to adapt to their work environment, which is vital for ensuring institutional effectiveness and the overall quality of higher education. This study investigates how lecturers’ commitment, performance, and job satisfaction influence their work adjustment. Employing a quantitative research design with a survey method, data were collected from a sample of university lecturers and analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS 25.0) to assess direct and indirect relationships among the variables. The results reveal several significant findings: commitment and performance each substantially directly affect work adjustment, both individually and jointly. Commitment and performance also significantly influence job satisfaction, both independently and simultaneously. Furthermore, job satisfaction has a strong direct impact on lecturers’ work adjustment. Commitment, performance, and job satisfaction together contribute significantly to work adjustment. The analysis also shows that commitment indirectly affects work adjustment through job satisfaction, while the indirect effect of performance through job satisfaction is not statistically significant. These findings emphasize the importance of fostering commitment and performance to enhance job satisfaction and facilitate work adjustment. Job satisfaction also mediates, reinforcing its strategic value in academic human resource development.

The results showed that school principal leadership had a positive and significant effect of 12.2% on students' academic achievement. Teaching quality had a positive influence of 20.1%, and student motivation contributed 9.6% to academic achievement. Simultaneously, principal leadership and teaching quality contributed 26.3% to students' academic achievement. Furthermore, principal leadership and teaching quality significantly influenced student motivation, contributing 22.4% and 28.1% respectively, and jointly 30.6%.
