Abstract

The digitalization of education has driven the massive integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education. However, the uncontrolled use of AI raises concerns regarding the authenticity of learning assessments, particularly among Islamic Education (PAI) students at UIN Mataram. This study aims to examine the impact of AI usage on the validity of assessments and the degradation of academic integrity. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with PAI students from the 2023 and 2024 cohorts, field observations, and documentation, and were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings indicate that the dominance of AI triggers cognitive erosion, reflected in declining literacy, critical thinking skills, and originality of ideas due to dependence on instant answers. This “shortcut” phenomenon undermines the principles of shiddiq (honesty) and amanah (responsibility), resulting in academic scores that no longer validly represent students’ actual intellectual capacities. Therefore, it is necessary to reconstruct evaluation methods and establish strict ethical guidelines for AI usage within the PAI program to preserve academic integrity and the moral quality of graduates.

Abstract

Gender equality in education is a central agenda within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education. However, significant challenges persist, especially in developing countries, where social norms, cultural structures, and unequal access continue to shape gender disparities. In the context of Islamic education, gender issues become more complex due to the interaction between religious texts, interpretations, and socio-cultural practices. This study aims to analyze the construction of gender concepts in Islamic education, identify forms of gender bias, and explore strategies for developing gender-responsive Islamic education. This research employs a qualitative approach based on library research, collecting data from scholarly literature, including books, journal articles, and policy documents. Data were analyzed using content analysis in stages: categorization, interpretation, and synthesis. The findings reveal that gender construction in Islamic education is not solely derived from normative religious texts but is significantly influenced by socio-cultural contexts, resulting in dualistic gender roles. Gender bias manifests in curricula, pedagogical practices, and institutional structures, often in both explicit and implicit forms. Despite these challenges, there is a growing transformation toward more inclusive practices, although it remains non-linear and faces cultural and ideological resistance. This study proposes an integrative reconstruction model of Islamic education based on three dimensions: theological reinterpretation, pedagogical transformation, and institutional reform. This model offers a comprehensive framework for promoting gender-equitable and inclusive Islamic education.

Abstract

The phenomenon of Islamophobia has increased significantly in recent decades and has evolved from individual prejudice to a systemic global problem. This study aims to analyze global Islamophobia trends by examining the causal factors, social impacts, and the effectiveness of countermeasures. The method used is a qualitative approach through library research using content analysis and thematic analysis techniques on various reputable academic sources over the past ten years. The results indicate that the rise in Islamophobia is influenced by three main factors: the politicization of identity for the sake of power, biased media construction, and minimal social interaction exacerbated by disinformation in the digital space. The resulting impacts are multidimensional, including economic discrimination, mental health disorders, identity crises, and weakened social cohesion in multicultural societies. Meanwhile, countermeasures efforts, both through international policies and social programs, still face various challenges, particularly in implementation and reach. This study emphasizes that addressing Islamophobia requires a comprehensive and integrated approach, encompassing strengthening legal regulations, improving digital literacy, and developing sustainable cross-cultural dialogue. In this way, it is hoped that a more inclusive, just and tolerant global social order will be created.

Abstract

Symbols have been a crucial part of all religions in the world for they can represent religious values, ideas, and events. This study seeks to examine the meaning of religious symbols in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, and their role in maintaining socio-religious harmony in the region. Qualitative and interpretative in nature, data collection techniques in this study were carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation. Meanwhile, data analysis employed a grounded theory design. The results of this study indicate that the symbols of religious pluralism are visible on the Pura Meru (next to the Nurul Falah mosque), on the statues of various religious figures at the Pura Mayura, and on the Pura Lingsar, a home for an ancient building called Kemalik. These symbols have been recognized as common properties of Hindus and Muslims and as places to get blessings. There is also the Topat War festival which is a legacy of Muslim and Hindu traditions used as a medium to pour out any form of anger among religious adherents and then end with peace. Those symbols are believed to be able to foster togetherness and harmony in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. In general, these religious symbols have made Cakranegara and Lingsar peaceful areas free from religious conflicts to date.
