Abstract

Nurses play a dual role in health services, not only carrying out technical tasks, but also having functional and strategic responsibilities in improving the quality of services and achieving institutional goals and improving the quality of life of the community. Optimal nurse performance is very important to ensure the quality of services, influenced by work motivation, compensation, and leadership style. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of motivation and leadership on nurse performance through job satisfaction as an intervening variable in hospitals. The study used a quantitative approach with an explanatory design, involving 165 nurses in emergency and inpatient installations. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire and then analyzed using Partial Least Square. The results showed the following results: (1) motivation has a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction (β = 0.360, p = 0.038); (2) leadership has a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction (β = 0.772, p = 0.000); (3) motivation has a positive and significant effect on nurse performance (β = 0.275, p = 0.041); (4) leadership has a positive and significant effect on nurse performance (β = 0.304, p = 0.018); (5) job satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on nurse performance (β = 0.717, p = 0.000); (6) job satisfaction mediates the effect of motivation on nurse performance (β = 0.215, p = 0.027); and (7) job satisfaction mediates the effect of leadership on nurse performance (β = 0.553, p = 0.001). In conclusion, work motivation in the form of financial and non-financial rewards, as well as supportive and transformational leadership styles, are key factors that directly influence increasing nurse job satisfaction. This satisfaction then mediates the relationship between motivation and leadership with an increase in overall nurse performance. Abstract

Background: Families who care for patients with schizophrenia are still considered negative experiences. Families are less able to find new, positive meaning when caring for patients with schizophrenia. This condition increases the family's and patient's burden as well as the inability of families to care for patients with schizophrenia. Purpose: This research aims to identify relationships between exploring the new meaning of caregiving with the family's ability to take care of patients with schizophrenia. Methods: This research is a quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 135 families who were caregivers of patients with schizophrenia was selected using purposive sampling techniques. The questionnaire exploring the new meaning of caregiving was developed from the concept of integrative empowerment and the family's ability to care for schizophrenia from the Barthel Index questionnaire and the Caregiving Tasks in Caring for an Adult with Mental Illness Scale (CTiCAMIS). Data analysis used Spearman rank correlation with alpha 5%. Results: This study's result is that the family's ability to explore new meanings of care is still in the sufficient category, both in the family aspect of having responsibility, the ability to assess positive aspects, acceptance of caring situations, and the family being part of the healer. Meanwhile, families' ability to care for patients with schizophrenia is still lacking to help with social interaction and productive skills. Conclusion: There is a relatively strong and unidirectional relationship between exploring new meanings of caregiving and the family's ability to care for schizophrenia (p-value=0.000; rho=0.311). Nurses must train family skills to explore new meanings through family empowerment programs.

Abstract

Multisensory space applies sensory stimulation that helps train cognitive and motor functions through elements that stimulate the senses in the elderly. This concept is identified for people with moderate to severe cognitive decline and neurodegenerative pathologies. Aim: This study aimed to identify sensory utilities and activities in designing a multisensory space with a transcultural nursing approach. Methods: Researchers collected data qualitatively using the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) technique to explore elements related to the function of the multisensory space. The FGD also identified transcultural nursing aspects that could be applied to the room concept. The FGD involved five participants selected according to the research objectives to explore the needs and activities of multisensory stimulation for the elderly. The FGD was conducted for two hours. Participants were the health service officer, geriatric nurses, one Alzheimer's dementia activist, one architect, and one cultural figures. The results of the FGD were analyzed using the Colaizzi method approach by transcribing data from the FGD results, reading the FGD transcripts several times, and analyzing themes using Atlas.ti. Transcripts and meaningful statements were returned to participants to form categories, subthemes, and themes. Results: The themes analyzed were related to elements in the multisensory room which included both equipment and activities that supported sensory stimulation. Discussion: The identification of spatial elements and research partners in the development of multisensory space design supports the fulfillment of the needs of applicable and innovative elderly health services, especially in applying the concept of transcultural nursing for multisensory rooms for the elderly Conclusion: Cultural considerations play a significant role in the effectiveness of sensory elements, as sensory experiences that resonate with an individual’s cultural background can evoke positive emotions and memories.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus and metabolic disorders are the priority programs in Indonesia. There is one program to reduce the fatality impact of diabetes which is diabetic self-management education (DSME). This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) on dietary habits, physical activity, and obesity.  This study is a quasi-experimental approach with one group pre-test post-test design. The sample in this study was 75 people with DM type II. The intervention for all samples was done for 4 sessions. Each session lasted 60 to 120 minutes/day with a maximum of 10 patients. The findings revealed that dietary habits were good from 56.0% to 69.3%, physical activity was good from 54.7% to 76.0%, and obesity decreased from 69.3% to 57.35, respectively for pre and post-test. The paired t-test result revealed that DSME correlates with dietary habits, physical activity, and obesity (obesity, physical activity, and dietary habit with p-values 0.024; 0.007; and 0.02, respectively). In conclusion, DSME has significantly influenced dietary habits, physical activity, and obesity. Education is crucial in promoting physical activity among individuals with diabetes. By enhancing self-efficacy, providing education on self-care behaviors, and emphasizing the importance of regular physical activity, these programs contribute to improving metabolic control, quality of life, and overall health outcomes in diabetic patients.
