Abstract

Family-centered care (FCC), which emphasizes the involvement of family members as active participants in the care process, represents a significant paradigm within the realm of stroke rehabilitation. This study aimed to locate and synthesize the most recent evidence concerning the advantages, methodologies, and obstacles associated with the integration of FCC in stroke rehabilitation. The approach taken involves conducting an integrative literature review following the guidelines set forth by Whittemore and Knafl. A thorough exploration of four databases including PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, and PsycINFO, was carried out, focusing on both quantitative and qualitative studies published between January 2012 and December 2022. Inclusion criteria comprised studies involving adult stroke patients undergoing rehabilitation, detailing family-centered interventions, and presenting outcomes for either the patients or their families. Upon the screening process, 25 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the analysis. Various strategies have been identified to effectively involve families in the rehabilitation process, such as educational initiatives, collaborative planning for home-based care, and provision of support for caregivers. However, the implementation of FCC faces challenges stemming from factors at the system level, provider level, and patient/family level, in conclusion, the integration of FCC in stroke rehabilitation yields substantial benefits for both patients and caregivers. It is imperative for nurses to engage families as collaborative partners, tailor interventions according to specific requirements, offer assistance to caregivers, and instigate changes at the systemic level.

Abstract

The aging population in Indonesia is facing an issue of health and productivity. Moreover, the elderly are a population group that is vulnerable to decreased independence in carrying out daily activities. Existing studies found Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) and Tai Chi Gymnastics can be effective alternative therapy in improving the independence of the elderly. However, there have not been many studies that combine these two therapies in the context of elderly care in Indonesia. This study aimed to test the effectiveness of the combination of DMT and Tai Chi Gymnastics in improving independence and Activity Daily Living (ADL) among the elderly.  This study is quasy- Experiment with pre-test and post-test nonequivalent group design. The sample in this study totalled 60 respondents (30 intervention group dan 30 control group). The participants of this study were selected based on the inclusion criteria which included the elderly with decreased functional activity. The results of data analysis showed a significant increase in the independence and moving of ADL of the elderly after receiving a combination intervention of Dance Movement Therapy and Tai Chi Gymnastics. This study is important to arrange more efforts for related stakeholders to improve the health and productivity of the elderly. Abstract

Betty Neuman's system theory offers a holistic nursing approach that focuses on strengthening the patient's line of defense through the identification and management of stressors at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. Although this model has been widely applied in clinical practice, the consistency and effectiveness of its implementation in hospitals still require thorough evaluation. This study aims to systematically review empirical evidence on the application of Betty Neuman's theory in the field of nursing in hospitals. The method used in writing this article is a literature study with a systematic review method. The articles reviewed were obtained through searches on Google Scholar, Sematic Scholar, Proquest, and ScienceDirect in the period 2015-2025 with the search keywords implementation, nursing, hospital, betty neuman system Using PRISMA, from 946 articles found, 10 journal articles were obtained for review. A total of 10 articles were synthesized based on the findings of the effectiveness of implementing Betty Neuman's theory in nursing practice in hospitals, including Environmental Factors, Client System, Stressors, Lines of Defense and Resistance, Three Levels of Prevention, and Recovery. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of this theory is effective in strengthening the patient's defense system, reducing anxiety levels, and accelerating recovery in various conditions such as stroke, cancer, heart failure, and pre-operative anxiety. This model facilitates a multidimensional approach that includes the physiological, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects of the patient, while emphasizing the role of nurses as stressor managers and holistic recovery facilitators. However, practice in the field is still often limited to physical interventions only, so that the full potential of the theory has not been optimally utilized.
