Abstract

Women are considered different from men. This has been a society stereotype from generation to generation. Feminists want to make changes, one of which is the resistance to the stigma of society that every human being has gender equality. One of the Instagram accounts that focuses on women's rights is @SingleMomsIndonesia, where every woman has the right to have their own life and needs to support each other. Their account shared a video, namely Para Puan”. This research uses a qualitative method and uses paradigm interpretive analysis semiotic and theory intertextual from Julia Kristeva. The result shows that every figure has different roles and human rights. Women's rights are also reflected in the rights of feminists who speak out for their rights. Most importantly, the woman must balance their roles in order, and egalitarian societal roles are necessary.

Abstract

Bilingual children's story books in Indonesian and English are now being published in Indonesia, providing them as reading options for mothers, caregivers, storytellers, and the children themselves. This study aims to analyze, identify, describe, and classify the forms of translation methods found in a bilingual children's storybook entitled 'The Foos' by Arleen Amidjaja, as well as to analyze the translation methods applied to determine the success in achieving equivalence of meaning in the target language (TL). This study uses a qualitative descriptive method and a documentation method. Employing text analysis, careful reading, and note taking techniques for research constitutes the stages of data collection. Text analysis uses Newmark's translation method theory with data sources from English texts as the source language text (SL) and Indonesian as the TL from the storybook 'The Foos.' The results of the analysis are presented in the form of a comparison of the two languages ​​, along with the results of identifying SL and TL text translation techniques. The interpretation of the identification results is then presented in the form of a descriptive presentation by considering the translation techniques of the identification results. The results of this study indicate that 12 translation method data are oriented to the SL, and eight are oriented to the TL. The translation techniques that are often used are semantic and communicative translation techniques. There are no faithful, adaptation, or idiomatic translation techniques because the children's storybook 'The Foos' does not have proverbial sentences or other foreign language terms. The SL uses simple sentence structures and vocabulary. The translation method that is oriented to the SL with semantic and communicative translation techniques is effective for translating children's storybooks, ensuring that readers understand the content of the stories.

Abstract

Abstract The slogan ‘All Eyes on Rafah’ went viral and became the talk of netizens on social media. The viral hashtag #AllEyesOnRafah on X social media was used to voice solidarity and concern for the humanitarian tragedy that befell the people of Rafah due to the Israeli army's attack. This study, conducted using the rigorous Social Network Analysis (SNA) method and incorporating the computer-mediated communication (CMC) theory and the Homophily theory, seeks to identify influential actors and analyze the communication network of the #AllEyesOnRafah on X social media. The primary data is the posts on social media X with the hashtag #AllEyesOnRafah dated from May 26th to July 4th, 2024. The data collection, processing, and analysis uses the web-based applications Netlytic.org and Gephi software. The SNA analysis reveals 305 nodes and 382 edges centered on several actors. The proximity between actors is 3, showing that the distance between actors is close. Therefore, the interactions are easy to occur. It was also found that the interactions between actors were few and considered uneven; this fact signifies one-way interactions. Such interaction is centered on 10 nodes with the most dominant of which is the @realmarcel1 account. In addition to that, the two most influential actors, @realmarcel1 and @Ta4leaHayam1, consistently scored highest in centrality on the basis of the analysis of degree centrality, closeness centrality, betweenness centrality, and eigenvector centrality. The communication network encouraged X users to support Palestine and informed others.

Abstract

This research explores reflective learning as a potential tool to enhance students’ learning experience in a Design Thinking class for English Language Education majors. Specifically, the researchers seek (i) to share how reflective learning can be implemented in a Design Thinking class; and (ii) to investigate ways in which the implemented reflective learning have affected students in processing, evaluating and improving their lesson plan design. To do this, this article lays out the class design that the researchers have implemented in their own Design Thinking classroom; this is carefully mapped out to Gibb’s reflective cycle to show how the step-by-step design is aligned with reflective teaching practices. Additionally, students’ reflective activities, including consultations with the instructor, teaching demo evaluation rubrics, and reflective essays are analyzed using thematic analysis to uncover insights into their learning process and outcomes. The study reveals that the implemented reflective learning steps help students achieve the intended results: (a) successful revision of their lesson plan; and (b) in-depth reflection throughout the whole process that have influenced their professional values and approach as future educators beyond the Design Thinking class.

Abstract

This current research discusses motivational messages on YouTube content on the issue of anxiety management at the quarter-life crisis (QLC) stage among Instagram followers @NAJWASHIHAB. Motivational messages on YouTube have influenced the audience's enthusiasm after watching the show based on extrinsic and extrinsic motivations. The research utilizes quantitative approach through the use of survey method. The survey data is the followers of the @NAJWASHIHAB Instagram account on quarter-life crisis topic discussion. The results show that the created content influenced the viewers or subjects. The findings indicate that there were positive reactions shown by the content viewers after watching the video "Quarter Life Crisis, Says Abi Quraish Shihab | Shihab & Shihab” on YouTube. The @NAJWASHIHAB Instagram followers demonstrate the ability to manage quarter-life crisis anxiety by practicing mindfulness by being conscious of their environment and openly accepting their emotions.
