Abstract

The Indonesian government has set a target to achieve net zero emissions (NZE) by 2060, part of which involves converting gas stoves to induction stoves for 8.2 million households by 2025. This initiative not only aims to reduce carbon emissions but also to decrease reliance on imported Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), easing the strain on the state budget due to LPG subsidies. Standardizing induction stoves is crucial to ensure product quality and user safety. While Indonesia has existing standards for electric cooking equipment, specific standards for induction stoves are lacking, necessitating the development of Indonesian National Standards (SNI). To prepare for the implementation of these standards, a study focusing on the readiness of institutions involved in SNI implementation was conducted. Using the technoware, humanware, infoware, orgaware, cysnetware, manageware, and partnerware (THIOCMP) model, the study assessed the readiness of stakeholders. Thirty expert respondents participated in questionnaires and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). The findings indicate a high level of readiness among stakeholders, although improvements are needed in the orgaware component to ensure sustainable implementation of SNI for induction stoves. This research underscores the importance of thorough preparation for the successful adoption of new standards in Indonesia's transition to sustainable energy practices.

Abstract

Additive manufacturing (AM) has revolutionized the manufacturing sector, particularly with the advent of 3D printing technology, which allows for the creation of customized, cost-effective, and waste-free products. However, concerns about the strength and reliability of 3D-printed products persist. This study focuses on the impact of three crucial variables—infill density, printing speed, and infill pattern—on the strength of PLA+ 3D-printed products. Our goal is to optimize these parameters to enhance product strength without compromising efficiency. We employed Charpy impact testing and Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to analyze the effects of these variables in combination. Charpy impact testing provides a measure of material toughness, while RSM allows for the optimization of multiple interacting factors. Our experimental design included varying the infill density from low to high values, adjusting printing speeds from 70mm/s to 100mm/s, and using different infill patterns such as cubic and others. Our results show that increasing infill density significantly boosts product strength but also requires more material and longer processing times. Notably, we found that when the infill density exceeds 50%, the printing speed can be increased to 100mm/s without a notable reduction in strength, offering a balance between durability and production efficiency. Additionally, specific infill patterns like cubic provided better strength outcomes compared to others. These findings provide valuable insights for developing stronger and more efficient 3D-printed products using PLA+ materials. By optimizing these parameters, manufacturers can produce high-strength items more efficiently, thereby advancing the capabilities and applications of 3D printing technology in various industries.

Abstract

Kansei engineering is a critical method for designing products that meet functionality, usability, and pleasurability, essential elements for business success. Despite its significance, there is limited understanding of how this method has evolved in recent years. This study aims to analyze the development of Kansei Engineering research from 2018 to 2022 using the Scopus database. The research methodology involved stages of identification, screening, filtering, and inclusion, resulting in 41 articles for detailed analysis out of an initial 215. The results indicate that 85% of Kansei Engineering research focuses on tangible products, with 83% categorized as type 1 studies, and 56% not integrating other methods. Additionally, 88% of the studies use only Kansei words, and 41% visualize design results as 3D images, with 95% not considering unique aspects. is dominance of tangible product design and the lack of integration with other methods suggest a need for diversification in research approaches. Furthermore, the high reliance on Kansei words and 3D visualizations points to a potential area for innovation and expansion in research techniques. This review highlights a significant research gap in Kansei Engineering studies, emphasizing the need for more diversified approaches. By identifying these gaps, the study provides a clear direction for future research, recommending that Kansei Engineering should explore beyond the predominant trends and consider integrating with other methods and unique aspects. This can enhance the method's application in industrial engineering and lead to more comprehensive and innovative product designs. Future research should aim to fill these gaps, ensuring that Kansei Engineering continues to evolve and contribute effectively to the field of product design and development.

Abstract

Recognizing the paramount importance of operational effectiveness and resource management in supply chain management (SCM) of the fashion industry, this study addresses a specific challenge faced by a prominent Indonesian fashion footwear company. The inefficiency is due to repetitive sorting and packaging processes during product distribution, which significantly impact optimal production mixes and product distribution from the distribution center to the point of sale. A crucial aspect is also the optimization of the delivery route. To address these challenges and minimize the total cost of ownership, the study proposes an integrated optimization model. This model simultaneously determines the optimal production quantity, assortment packaging, and distribution channels, taking into account decision variables related to distribution in configuration boxes, overload and underload products, as well as production numbers that respond to store-specific demand fluctuations. A notable contribution of this research is the integration of product mix decisions into the assortment packaging and distribution model, which represents a novel approach. The optimal solution determined using the LINGO 18.0 software highlights the significant influence of product penalty costs and product demand parameters on the objective function, while shipping costs have no noticeable influence. By emphasizing the integration of product mix decisions into the optimization framework, this research contributes significantly to improving the understanding and practical application of efficient supply chain management in the fashion industry.

Abstract

Intense competition among companies encourages them to provide the best quality of products in competitive price. It is important for company to manage supply chain properly in order to achieve that. Selecting the best reliable supplier is the key to reduce purchasing cost, increase customer satisfaction and improve the competitive ability. In this study, we develop an order allocation model in multi echelon environment which includes supplier, manufacturer, and retailer. We consider transportation alternatives for the shipment from supplier to manufacturer and also the shipment from manufacturer to retailer. This model allows lateral transshipment between retailers. A Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) is used to model the system. Sensitivity analysis is conducted at the end of the research. The result shows that the retailer demand, lead time, material variable price are sensitive to the objective function while the transportation costs from supplier to manufacturer, from manufacturer to retailers, and between retailers are not sensitive to the objective function. Retailer demand parameter is also sensitive to all decision variables. The transportation cost from supplier to manufacturer, material prices, and lead time are sensitive to the order allocation from manufacturer to supplier, while transportation cost from manufacturer to retailers and transportation cost between retailers are sensitive to the allocation of product sent from the manufacturer to retailers and the allocation of product sent between retailers.

Abstract

Although the physical ergonomics of seat design have been extensively studied, emotional comfort is still largely overlooked, especially in public transport. This study addresses this gap by incorporating passengers' emotional perceptions into the design of luxury train seats, in response to documented user discomfort which transcends physical dimensions. The aim was to design seats based on the emotional needs of users and the principles of Kansei engineering, incorporating elements of Javanese cultural values as a form of local wisdom. Emotional responses were captured using Kansei words derived from user interviews, online reviews, and from the expertise of local practitioners. The designs included batik and Javanese decorations. A statistical analysis using Quantitative Theory of Type I (QTT1) identified design elements corresponding to semantic differences between Kansei words. Analysis revealed that the dominant emotional dimension is creative, as indicated by the highest multiple of R-squared 0.9785. This dimension has been operationalized in 14 concrete design elements of the proposed seating concept. The innovative use of batik motifs on the seat backrests was a distinctive feature and underlined the fact that users perceived cultural integration as central to the creative dimension. The study concluded that the integration of emotional perception, represented by the creative dimension, and local wisdom, represented by the batik elements, is a viable strategy for the design of culturally distinct and emotionally attractive luxury train seats. It shows that the culturally rooted approach of Kansei Engineering contributes to the welfare of users.

Abstract

Every company aims to maximize its profit to survive and maintain business growth. However, it has to allocate some of the profit to the community development in the form of corporate social responsibility. Along with the importance of the development of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), many companies consider the social effects of their supply chain activities. In this paper, we address a problem determining the optimal order allocation, carrier selection, and the amount of CSR in a single product, multi-suppliers, and multiple periods environment. A goal programming model was developed to solve the problem by considering all-unit quantity discounts, the lateness of deliveries, and rejections. LINGO 18.0 was used to solve the model. The results of optimization show that all the goals are achieved. Based on the sensitivity analysis results, the proposed model is relatively insensitive to the goals of the profit and social value unless at the increases of 24% of both goals. For the goals of defect items and late delivery items, both goals affect the objective function when each goal is decreased. Hence, the decision-maker has to be careful in setting the goals.

Abstract

Home health care (HHC) is a health service provided by a hospital so that patients can be taken care of at their homes. Assigning multiple caregivers to serve patients during working hours is one of the main issues in HHC planning. In this study, multi-objective mixed-integer nonlinear programming was formulated for HHC daily planning. The model aims to simultaneously minimize total service time, total traveled distance, total cost comprising the opportunity loss from unvisited patients and penalty cost due to the violation of gender preference, and total carbon emissions generated by the caregiver’s vehicle. Using real data from Dr. Moewardi Hospital, a case study was provided in order to show the applicability of the model. The model can be utilized to assist the HHC coordinator in determining the optimal schedule and routing of HHC visits.
