Abstract

This study delves into the pivotal role of student council (OSIS) elections in nurturing democratic values among Generation Z students within Indonesian high schools. As Indonesia witnesses the surge of Generation Z, recognized as the largest demographic cohort, their engagement in both scholastic and civic activities, including voting in elections, becomes crucial. This demographic has the potential to significantly influence the trajectory of the nation's democratic governance. Utilizing qualitative research methods, predominantly interviews, this study explores the depth of students comprehension and application of democratic principles, particularly in the context of OSIS elections. Findings suggest a nuanced understanding among students, with many recognizing OSIS elections as tangible manifestations of democratic processes. However, their grasp of democracy beyond its political connotations remains limited, reflecting a need for more comprehensive educational initiatives. While students acknowledge the significance of OSIS elections in shaping school dynamics and personal growth, individual interest emerges as a determining factor in their level of participation. Nonetheless, students generally exhibit positive attitudes towards OSIS elections, recognizing them as valuable learning experiences. In conclusion, this study underscores the imperative of embedding practical democratic education within the school curriculum to cultivate informed and engaged citizens. Recommendations include the integration of robust democratic education modules and the facilitation of workshops and seminars to deepen students' understanding of democratic principles and practices.

Abstract

Karimunjawa is an archipelago which has a large coral reef area. However, the human and natural factors that put environmental pressure on coral reef ecosystem in recent years have caused the need to update data on the abundance and diversity of megabenthos in Karimunjawa. Data collection was carried out on 9 islands in Karimunjawa out on 30 September-4 October in 2023. The megabenthos data collection method was carried out using the belt transect method with data collection carried out at the family level in the survey area. The method for collecting data on hard coral cover was underwater photo transect (UPT). Megabenthos data analysis was carried out using Microsoft Excel software Coral Point Count with Excel Extensions (CPCe) software for coral cover analysis. Analysis of megabenthos data also includes ecological indices consisting of the Shannon-Wiener diversity index, Pielou evenness index, and dominance index. The relationship between hard coral cover and megabenthos was sought using simple regression analysis. The research results found 8 megabenthos classes and as many as 16 families. The results showed a weak relationship between megabenthos abundance and hard coral cover (r=0.03), but a strong and moderate relationship with the megabenthos ecological index (r=0.434 to 0.568). The regression analysis showed that there was no significant influence between hard coral cover and the abundance and ecological index of megabenthos (P>0.05).

Abstract

Coral reefs in Indonesia has been degraded due to various environmental stressors and only a few are left under very good category. Coral reef restoration efforts need to be planned to improve the condition of damaged coral reef ecosystems. Microfragmentation is one of the methods used for massive coral reef restoration. This research aims to determine the growth rate and survival rate of Porites and Cyphastrea using different fragment sizes. The coral fragments were used 1 cm2, 2 cm2, and 4 cm2. This research was conducted in a maintenance tank owned by PT Pura Baruna Bahari located on Sambangan Island from September to December 2021. Observation of growth rate and survival rate were checked every one week by taking photos of coral fragments. These photos were processed using Image J. The results show that the highest growth rate of Porites was found in fragments 2 cm2 (0.272 cm2/week) and the lowest was obtained from fragments 4 cm2 (0.092 cm2/week). The highest growth rate of Cyphastrea was found in fragments 2 cm2 with the growth rate of 0.736 cm2/week and the lowest was obtained from fragments 4 cm2 with the growth rate of 0.447 cm2/week. The survival rates of coral fragments Porites and Cyphastrea were 100% and 98.21%, respectively. The results of growth rate analysis using One Way ANOVA showed that there was a significant difference (P<0.05) on Porites growth rate and no significant difference (P>0.05) were found on Cyphastrea’s growth rate. The highest growth rate was achieved at 2 cm2 fragments of Porites and Cyphastrea fragments.  Kondisi ekosistem terumbu karang di Indonesia telah mengalami degradasi akibat berbagai tekanan lingkungan, dan hanya sedikit yang berada dalam katagori sangat baik. Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the lack of optimal strengthening of character education through the Pancasila student profile for teachers in the field. The objectives of this community service activity are to; 1) strengthen character and competence, 2) actively participate in planning active and continuous learning, 3) develop skills, attitudes and knowledge, 4) solve problems in various learning situations, 5) be responsible and care for the surrounding situation and 6) value learning so as to achieve educational goals. Based on the training that has been carried out at SD Prantaan Bogorejo, this service activity received a positive response from the teachers who participated in the activity. This can be seen from the high enthusiasm of the teachers when participating in this training activity. The main thing that was done during the implementation of this service activity was that teachers who were training participants were asked to identify a problem related to character education through the Pancasila student profile. Then teachers are given an understanding of the materials and problems related to strengthening character education. As feedback from this activity, the Education Coordinator and elementary school teachers said that they were willing to become target schools for various activities to improve the quality of education in their schools. It is hoped that from the Education Coordinator of Bogorejo District and teachers in elementary schools, their school achievements can continue to increase with the collaboration built with Padang State University. Keywords: Character Education, Pancasila Learner, Teacher
