Abstract

The isolation of steroid compounds from the bark of Andong plant (Cordyline fructicosa [L] A. Cheval) that come from Samarinda have been done. Their air-dried powdered from bark of Andong plant (Cordyline fructicosa [L] A. Cheval) (250 gram) were extracted by methanol at room temperature (27oC) and fractioned with n-hexane-water (1:1). Separation of steroid compounds in n-hexane fraction by column chromatography with silica gel 60 (35-70 mesh) based on the Isocratic method and produce six fractions, that fractions were 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 fractions. Fraction 3 gave a blue fluorescent staining that was observed after under UV light and with the Lieberman Burchard produces a green stain, then the fraction 3 was tested for steroid and produces a blue color indicates a positive steroid that has a yield of 0.0536 gram. Purification of the fraction 3 produces greenish-yellow crystals with Rf value of 0.72 with eluent chloroform (100%) while the value of Rf in n-hexane = 0.68 and Rf in ethyl acetate = 0.42. the UV-Vis spectrum of the crystalline isolate results provide absorption at wavelenght of 252 nm, 263 nm and 334 nm. While the result of FT-IR spectrum gives absorption at wave numbers: 689.63; 768.03; 800.79; 901.81; 977.32; 1052.32; 1201.45; 1273.35; 1358.76; 1463.11; 1662.32; 2853.02; 2926.19; 3056.42 and 3456.33. The bark of Andong plant (Cordyline fructicosa [L] A. Cheval) contains steroid compounds. Keywords: Andong (Cordyline fructicosa [L] A. Cheval), Steroid, Isocratic, Isolation

Abstract

A study about Bioaccumulation of Pb Metal Ion in Hair and Blood of Operator of General Fuel Filling Station, Sentosa Road Samarinda has been conducted. The aim of the study is to determine the accumulation of Pb metal ions levels and the association between the hours of work of gas station operator assumed to be positively correlated and the levels of Pb metal ions in hair as well as in blood. Hair and blood were homogenized and analyzed by Atomic Adsorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The results displayed that the lowest and highest level of Pb metal ions contained in hair was 0.03 μg/g and 0.07 μg/g, respectively. The highest number found in blood was similar to the level contained in hair, that is 0.07 μg/mL. However, the lowest level was marginally lower with a number 0.01 μg/mL. The coefficient correlation (r) obtained were 0.822 and 0.859 for hair and blood, respectively. These numbers indicate there was a strong positive relationship between working hours of gas station operator and levels of Pb metal ion in hair and blood. This inference was also supported by the results of t test, that is, 0.564. Furthermore,% determinants analysis was also undertaken which result in 82.2% and 85.9% for hair and blood, respectively to strengthen the test result that working hours of gas station operator in Sentosa Road Samarinda was positively associated with Pb metal ion levels in hair and in blood.

Abstract

Analysis of Heavy Metal Content of Pb, Cd, Cu, As in Water, Sediments and Bivalves in Coastal Waters of Balikpapan Bay. The study aims to analyze the levels of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Cu, As) in water, sediment and Bivalvia and to determine the adsorption, bioconcentration factors in sediments and Bivalvia. This research is in the form of field survey and laboratory analysis, where the results are quantitative descriptive and analyzed statistically multivariate. The results of laboratory analysis showed that the levels of heavy metals in water ranged between (Pb 0.064-0.142 mg/L), (Cd 0.088-0.112 mg/L), (Cu 0.035-0.056 mg/L) and (As 0.022-0.026 mg/L). Sediment (Pb 2,555-2,616 mg/Kg), (Cd 2,433-2,609 mg/Kg), (Cu 1,289-1,553 mg/Kg), (As 0,329-0,496 mg/Kg) and Bivalvia (Pb 1,708-2,076 mg/Kg) ), (Cd 1.569-2.416 mg/Kg), (Cu 1.078-1.264 mg/Kg) and (As 0.297-0.449 mg/Kg). Heavy metal content of Pb, Cd, Cu and As in the sediment is greater than water or Bivalvia. The results of the statistical analysis partially showed that the levels of heavy metals Pb, Cd, Cu and As differed significantly between all study samples (water, sediment and Bivalvia). Whereas the observation stations (Kariangau industrial area, the village on the water and the PT. Pertamina area) did not differ significantly. The results of the analysis of adsorption and bioconcentration factors on the levels of heavy metals Pb, Cd, Cu and As in sediments (Pb 17.99-42.25), (Cd 22.75-28.67), (Cu 26.49-36.83 ) and (As 13.71-19.08). In Bivalvia (Pb 14.15-32.44), (Cd 14.00-26.55), (Cu 21.14-34.43) and As (13.50-29.88).

Abstract

Traditional medicine is a supplement that can help maintain a healthy body which is produced from ingredients or ingredients derived from plants, so that it is still in great demand by the public because it is considered safe. Traditional medicinal preparations themselves are not allowed to contain Medicinal Chemicals (BKO). However, along with the increasing public interest, this has led to the circulation of traditional medicines containing BKO in order to obtain products with the fastest/ most effective effects. One of the chemical drugs that are often found are coffeine and paracetamol. This study aims to identify the medicinal chemicals of coffeine and paracetamol in traditional medicine using a solid phase extraction method which is then followed by high performance liquid chromatography with a photo diode array detector. The results obtained were that the coffeine standard produced a retention time of 5.791 with a wavelength of 206 nm and 272 nm while the paracetamol standard produced a retention time of 4.372 with a wavelength of 196 nm and 246 nm. The results of the analysis showed that the samples in the form of traditional medicines did not contain the medicinal chemicals coffeine and paracetamol Keywords: Coffeina, Paracetamol, Medicinal Chemicals, Traditional Medicine

Abstract

Cooking oil is a type of vegetable oil derived from palm plants that has gone through various refining processes. Generally, cooking oil is used repeatedly at high temperatures until the oil is unfit for consumption This results in a decrease in the quality and nutritional value of fried food. In addition, the accumulation of used cooking oil (used cooking oil) can cause environmental pollution. Improving the quality and nutritional value of cooking oil can be done by using the adsorption method. The adsorption method is a method that is carried out by using a number of adsorbents from activated charcoal in the process of refining used cooking oil. Adsorbents from activated charcoal can be made from basic ingredients of agricultural waste such as activated charcoal from coconut shells, corn cobs, snack fruit and others. The adsorbent of activated charcoal can reduce the levels of fatty acids, water content, peroxide levels and acid numbers. The internal adsorption capacity depends on the different adsorbent types, contact time, amount of adsorbent, surface area and structure of the adsorbent and adsorbate concentration.
