Abstract

Background: Increased levels of progesterone, estrogen, and HCG (chorionic gonadotropin hormone) during the first trimester of pregnancy can produce morning sickness, also known as emesis gravidarum (nausea and vomiting). To lessen the release of hormones that induce anxiety, severe nausea, and vomiting, prenatal yoga practitioners can block the stimulation of sympathetic nerves by practicing muscle relaxation. This study aims to ascertain how prenatal yoga affects first-trimester emesis gravidarum. Method: This study used a pre-experimental design with a pretest-posttest design in one group, involving 16 mothers who had emesis gravidarum at PMB Fatimah Bandung Rejosari, Sukun, Malang. Data collection was done using the questionnaire. Results: The result was that two prenatal yoga sessions over two weeks demonstrated significant benefits. Prenatal yoga affects emesis gravidarum in the first trimester of pregnancy, as indicated by the independent t-test technique (2-tailed) of 0.000 <0.005. Discussion: Steroid hormones can slow down stomach emptying, which causes emesis gravidarum. Excessive or low cortisol levels can be brought back to normal with yoga. Yoga offers numerous mental and physical health advantages. Conclusion We can conclude that the course of treatment impacts the severity of emesis gravidarum, or nausea and vomiting, during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Abstract

The coverage of exclusive breastfeeding at the Sikan Community Health Center from 2018-2019 decreased from 50.8% to 28%. Lack of knowledge and the intensive promotion of formula milk are among the causes of the low exclusive breastfeeding rate. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between socioeconomic factors and the level of maternal knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding in the Tokorondo Community Health Center Work Area. This study used an analytical method with a cross-sectional approach. The population was 46 mothers with toddlers aged 6-12 months in the Sikan Community Health Center work area. The sample in this study was 36 people, the sampling technique was consecutive sampling. The results showed that exclusive breastfeeding was more common in mothers with low education (60%), unemployed mothers (23.5%), high income (50%), and well-informed (100%). Conclusion: There is a relationship between the level of knowledge and exclusive breastfeeding (p<0.001), while education (p=0.217), occupation (p=1.000), and income (p=0.436) have no relationship with exclusive breastfeeding. It is hoped that health workers can be a source of information about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for babies up to 6 months of age and after six months of age. After six months, it is continued with the provision of complementary foods while continuing to provide breast milk until the age of 2 years and there is support from the family, especially the husband, as an effort to increase the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

The postpartum period is a critical stage in maternal recovery and adaptation, during which successful breastfeeding plays an essential role in ensuring optimal infant growth and maternal health. However, inadequate breast milk production during the early postpartum period remains a major challenge that contributes to the low rate of exclusive breastfeeding. Oxytocin massage has been introduced as a simple, safe, and non-pharmacological intervention to stimulate oxytocin secretion and improve the milk ejection reflex. This study aimed to determine the effect of oxytocin massage on breast milk production among postpartum mothers at the Sungai Paduan Community Health Center (UPTD). A quasi-experimental study with a post-test-only control group design was conducted involving 40 postpartum mothers selected through purposive sampling. Participants were assigned to either an intervention group receiving oxytocin massage or a control group receiving routine postpartum care. Breast milk production was assessed using breastfeeding frequency, breastfeeding duration, expressed milk volume, and infant urination and defecation frequency. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test. The findings revealed that 85% of mothers in the intervention group experienced smooth breast milk production compared with only 30% in the control group. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant difference between groups (p < 0.001), with a large effect size (r = 0.61), indicating the substantial effectiveness of oxytocin massage. In conclusion, oxytocin massage is an effective non-pharmacological intervention for improving breast milk production and should be considered as part of routine postpartum care to support successful exclusive breastfeeding.
