Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to describe and analyze teachers' experience with practicing loose part media innovation in early childhood learning and their implications for child development.Design/methods/approach – This study is qualitative descriptive with phenomenological design. The subject of this study is four teachers at PAUD Wadas Kelir. Data collection processes obtain through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and data analysis processes by reducing, presenting, and verifying data.Findings – The results of this study are that the loose part media innovation carried out by the teachers at PAUD Wadas Kelir includes the selection of loose part materials, motions, learning materials, and song or rhythm. The implication of loose part media in early childhood learning is the achievement of child development aspects, children's fine motor development in the form of coordination, and the ability To make motion simple like the clap. Development of cognitive showed with the child's ability to read and mention letters and numbers. Development of child art showed the ability to coordinate motion with rhythm or song, as well as a creation from loose parts material. Finally, the development of language child showed with the acquisition of new vocabulary and the ability to read the moment or after the play following the writing or the shape that has been compiled.Research implications/limitations – This study only focuses on aspects of loose part media innovation in the learning process and its implications for children’s development, so the limitations of this research are developmental aspects that are not focused on and are less sharp.Practical implications – This study contributes as additional reference material for teachers to develop loose media for children learning.Originality/value – This study gives a deep understanding of the innovation of learning media with loose part materials.Paper type: Research paper

Abstract

This research is motivated by the pros and cons of applying calistung learning in kindergarten. Calistung's activities caused much criticism from observers of early childhood. That the world of children is playing and having fun and the most important thing that must be developed in kindergarten is socializing and ethics. But there are opinions that assume that early childhood is a golden period where it is easy to absorb all kinds of information. This study includes a qualitative approach to the type of descriptive research. The subject of this research is the teacher kelas B TK Angkasa Tasikmalaya. Data collection uses observation, interviews and documentation. Analysis using the Milles and Huberman model and data validity testing using source and technique triangulation. The results showed that the learning that was implemented in TK Angkasa had largely followed the idealism of calistung learning according to existing theories. Children's cognitive aspects generally develop well according to the stages of cognitive development at the age of 5-6 years. Calistung learning in TK Angkasa Tasikmalaya has positive and negative effects on children's cognitive.

Abstract

Game-based learning is increasingly recognized as an effective approach to fostering cognitive development in early childhood. This study examines how it enhances children's problem-solving, memory, and attention, as well as teachers' and parents' perceptions of its implementation. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected from 20 teachers and 15 parents through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. Thematic analysis revealed that game-based learning promotes cognitive development by encouraging active engagement, fostering curiosity, and improving problem-solving and information retention. Teachers highlighted the importance of designing meaningful play experiences, while parents observed improvements in children's focus and memory. However, challenges such as inadequate teacher training, limited play resources, and low parental awareness hinder optimal implementation. Findings suggest that successful game-based learning requires well-structured activities, professional development for educators, and greater parental involvement. Addressing these challenges through targeted interventions could enhance its effectiveness in early childhood education. This study provides valuable insights into teachers’ and parents’ perceptions of play-based learning in cognitive development and underscores the need for collaborative efforts to maximize its potential. Future research should explore its long-term impacts and strategies for integrating it into diverse educational settings.
