Abstract

Abstract

Estrogen causes the growth of lactobacillus colonies in the vagina which convert glycogen in superficial vaginal cells into lactic acid, resulting in a low vaginal pH which can inhibit the invasion of pathogenic bacteria. After menopause, lactobacillus growth is inhibited, vaginal secretions become thin, vaginal pH increases and the immune system becomes low. This study aims to determine the effect of Lactobacillus Casei extract on secretory immunoglobulin A levels and reduce vaginal acidity levels (pH) and increase the number of beneficial bacteria in the vaginal mucosa. The research design used was an experimental study with a post-test-only control group design using 24 female rats aged 8-10 weeks with a weight of 180-220 grams. Before treatment, the rats were ovariectomized, and the acclimation period was 14 days, then divided into 4 groups, namely: (K) without treatment, P1 received Lactobacillus Casei extract at a dose of 2ml / rat, P2 at a dose of 2.25ml / rat, and P3 at a dose of 2.5ml / rat. Lactobacillus Casei extract was given orally for 14 days. On the 15th day all rats were terminated. Vaginal acidity levels were measured using the swab method and IgA was measured using the ELISA method, while for bacterial identification tests, gram-positive staining was performed. The results of the one-way ANOVA test showed that Lactobacillus Casei extract can increase IgA levels and significantly reduce vaginal acidity levels by p = 0.003 and p = 0.000. The decrease in acidity levels is due to the deordelin bacillus which converts glycogen into lactic acid so that the vagina remains acidic, as well as the role of S-IgA on the surface of the vaginal mucosa which functions as an opsonin and APC (antigen-presenting Cell) to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria in the vagina. This study concludes that the administration of Lactobacillus Casei extract can increase secretory Immunoglobulin A (S-IgA) levels and reduce vaginal acidity (pH) to normal.

Abstract

Ovariectomy is a commonly performed medical procedure to investigate the effects of estrogen loss on the immune system. Secretory immunoglobulin A (s-IgA) is an antibody that is important in mucosal defense system. Probiotics, such as Lactobacillus, have been known to affect the local immune system. This study aims to evaluate the effect of administering Lactobacillus probiotics on s-IgA levels in Wistar rats undergoing ovariectomy. Female Wistar rats (n=30) were randomly divided into two groups, namely the treatment group (receiving Lactobacillus probiotics) and the control group (receiving placebo). After undergoing an ovariectomy, treatment was given for 4 weeks. After the treatment period, s-IgA levels were evaluated using the ELISA technique in mouse saliva samples. The results showed that the treatment group receiving Lactobacillus probiotics had significantly higher s-IgA levels than the control group (p 0.05). Administration of Lactobacillus probiotics can increase s-IgA levels in Wistar rats undergoing ovariectomy. This shows the potential of probiotics in enhancing mucosal immune responses in conditions associated with estrogen deficiency

Abstract

Introduction: During the process of childbirth there are several stages, one of which is stage I of delivery. There is a difference in the length of the first stage in primigravida mothers and multigravida mothers. In primigravida mothers, the first stage will take longer due to the mother's lack of experience in handling childbirth. The delivery process will not experience obstacles if the contraction is good and does not weaken. One action that can be taken to increase uterine contractions naturally is by providing nipple stimulation. Nipple stimulation is the act of giving a light massage to one of the nipples using your fingers. The purpose of giving nipple stimulation is to release the hormone oxytocin which can cause contractions during the birth process. Aims: This study aims to determine the effect of nipple stimulation on the length of the first stage of active phase in primigravida.Method: The research carried out by this researcher is a type of quantitative research using quasi-experimental research methods and using a posttest only control group design. The sample used in this study was 16 primigravida mothers who were divided into 2 groups as the control group and the subjects. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. Data analysis using the Mann-Whytney test. Result and Conclusion: After analyzing the data, the p-value was 0.02, which means the research results had a p-value <0.05. This shows that nipple stimulation has an influence on the length of the first stage of primigravida.

Abstract

Introduction: This study aims to investigate the relationship between stress levels and menstrual cycle patterns in adolescent girls at SMPN 17 Malang. Mental and reproductive health are two important aspects of adolescent life, and this research tries to understand the interaction between the two. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional approach and a quantitative research design. We collected data from a total of 48 female teenagers at SMPN 17 Malang. We used simple random sampling as the sampling method. We measured stress levels using a standardised, tested questionnaire, and monitored menstrual cycle patterns through daily records reported by respondents. Results: Data analysis shows that the majority of adolescent girls experience moderate levels of stress (72.9%), while 50% of them have regular menstrual cycles. However, the Chi-Square statistical test showed that there was no significant relationship between stress levels and menstrual cycle patterns at SMPN 17 Malang (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Although there are variations in stress levels and menstrual cycle patterns, this study did not find a significant relationship between these two variables at SMPN 17 Malang. These results provide valuable insight into the mental and reproductive health conditions of adolescent girls in the school environment. We need further research to understand other factors that may influence the relationship between stress and menstrual cycle patterns in adolescent girls.
