Abstract

Alpinia monopleura is one of the endemic plants of Sulawesi, and it has an extensive distribution in the region. Research on chemical compounds and biological activities of A. monopleura is essential to continue as an effort to support the utilization of native plants for medicine. The extract was obtained using the maceration method. The chemical compounds in the extract were identified using Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LCMS). Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) and molecular docking methods were used to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity. Ten compounds contained in the extract were successfully identified, E-para-coumaric acid (1), trans-ferulaldehyde (2), 3,5,6-trihydroxy-4',7-dimethoxyflavone (3), nevadensin (4), malvalic acid (5), ent-16α,17-hydroxy-19-kauranoic acid (6), 3′,5-dihydroxy-7,4'-dimethoxy flavone (7), saurufuran B (8), 5-hydroxy-7,8,2'-trimethoxyflavanone (9) and dehydroabietic acid (10). The anti-inflammatory activity of extracts from rhizomes and stems of A. monopleura were 8.62 and 10.59 mg/L, respectively. Some flavonoids (9 and 7) can bind strongly to specific residues around the COX-2 active site, such as Ser530, thereby interfering with the function of the COX-2 enzyme and reducing the production of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. Thus, A. monopleura extract has the potential to inhibit inflammatory responses through molecular regulation of the COX-2 enzyme.

Abstract

Introduction: Water is a primary and basic human need. One of the chemical parameters that must be met for drinking water needs is mineral content, such as calcium and magnesium. Water hardness is a condition in which there is excessive calcium and magnesium content, which is commonly known as calcareous water. If consumed long-term, high-water hardness that exceeds normal limits can interfere with body health. Specifically, excess calcium in the body can cause hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, kidney stones, and muscle tissue damage (muscle weakness). Objective: This study aims to determine blood calcium levels in individuals who consume calcareous healthy water. Methods: The type of research used is descriptive-analytical, with blood calcium level analysis carried out using the Ion Selective Electrode (ISE) method through the Electrolyte Analyzer (CBS400). Result: Based on the results of the study, it was obtained that blood calcium levels in 30 community respondents in Ranomeeto District (100%) were above the reference value, indicating high blood calcium levels. Conclusion: blood calcium levels in people who consume lime juice indicate high blood calcium levels. Consuming water with a high lime content can hurt health. Therefore, people need to consider the quality of the drinking water they drink, especially those that have a high lime content, to maintain heart and kidney health in the long term.

Abstract

Chronic kidney failure (CKD) is a disease condition that progressively occurs with a slow decline in kidney function that cannot return to normal, so that in advanced stages it requires replacement therapy such as hemodialysis. One of the most common complications in patients with CKD is anemia. This anemia is usually caused by reduced production of erythropoietin hormone which causes a shortening of erythrocyte lifespan. To evaluate the characteristics of anemia in chronic kidney failure (CKD) patients, hematological examination of erythrocyte indices, including Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV), Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin (MCH), and Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration (MCHC), as well as Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW), are performed. This study aims to determine the correlation between erythrocyte indices (MCV, MCH, and MCHC) and Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW) in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis at Bahteramas Hospital. The study was conducted descriptively analytically with accidental sampling method of 77 CKD patients. The results of statistical analysis using the chi-square test showed a significant value in the MCV examination and RDW value of 0.000 under the p value <0.05, MCH examination and RDW value found a significant value of 0.000 under the p value <0.05, and MCHC examination and RDW value found a significant value of 0.000 under the p value <0.05. This shows that there is a statistically significant relationship between erythrocyte index and RDW value in CKD patients in the Hemodialysis Installation at Bahteramas Hospital.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The Jeruju plant is one of the true mangrove species that typically grows in coastal areas, rivers, swamps, and brackish water regions, and is used for medicinal purposes. Scientific data on Jeruju leaf (Achantus ilicifolious) extract indicate the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, steroids, and saponins, all of which can be utilized for their antibacterial properties, particularly against the acne-causing bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. Staphylococcus aureus is known to cause skin blockages, which in turn trigger inflammation and the appearance of acne. The aim of this research was to determine whether an ethanol leaf extract emulgel of Jeruju (Achantus ilicifolious) could inhibit Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The results of the study indicated that at a concentration of 10%, a inhibition zone of 3.8 mm was obtained, at 15% concentration it was 4.7 mm, and at 20% concentration it was 4.8 mm, categorizing the inhibition zones as weak (<5 mm).

Abstract

Saat ini, perawatan gigi harus disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan dan kondisi kesehatan gigi, salah satunya adalah pemilihan bentuk sediaan produk gigi. Serbuk gigi memiliki keunggulan seperti membersihkan plak, sisa makanan, mencegah pembentukan karang gigi, dan memberikan nafas segar. Salah satu bahan herbal yang digunakan dalam obat-obatan oral adalah biji pinang (Areca catechu L.). Biji pinang mengandung alkaloid, flavonoid, tanin, saponin, dan polifenol sebagai senyawa antibakteri. Beberapa studi menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol biji pinang dapat menghambat bakteri seperti Staphylococcus aureus dan Streptococcus mutans. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memformulasi serbuk gigi berbasis herbal bubuk pinang, cengkeh, dan kayu manis serta dan kemampuannya untuk menghambat bakteri penyebab plak dan karies gigi. Metode penelitian ialah eksperimental yang dibuat dalam 3 konsentrasi (F1, F2, dan F3). Evaluasi meliputi organoleptik, homogenitas, pH, kadar air, dan cycling test. Aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan metode sumur agar pada bakteri Streptococcus mutans. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bubuk pinang, cengkeh, dan kayu manis dapat dibuat menjadi formula pasta gigi herbal. Hasil evaluasi sediaan menunjukkan pada formula F1, F2, F3 berwarna coklat, rasa agak manis, aroma khas mint dan homogen. Pengujian pH sebesar 6,5 – 6,8. Pengujian kadar air dengan kisaran 4,9 % - 6,1%. Pada uji cycling test menunjukkan formula F1, F2 dan F3 tidak mengalami perubahan selama penyimpanan 6 siklus. Hasil uji antibakteri menunjukkan hanya formula F3 yang memiliki daya hambat yaitu sebesar 3,6 mm sedangkan kontrol positif serbuk gigi “x” sebesar 0 mm. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa serbuk gigi herbal dapat dijadikan alternatif untuk pengobatan plak dan karis gigi

Abstract

Meistera chinensis merupakan generasi baru famili Zingiberaceae yang tumbuh di Sulawesi Tenggara. Ekstrak buah mengandung metabolit sekunder seperti flavonoid, terpenoid, alkaloid, steroid, dan tanin yang memiliki efektivitas sebagai antioksidan dan antibakteri. Namun, belum ada laporan tentang antibakteri pada bagian rimpang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan metabolit sekunder dan aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol rimpang M. chinensis. Serbuk kering rimpang M. chinensis diekstraksi dengan maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Ekstrak dipekatkan menggunakan rotary vacuum evaporator. Metode analisis aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan difusi agar dengan konsentrasi ekstrak 10%, 20%, 30%, dan kontrol positif (Ciprofloxacin 30µg) terhadap Staphylococcus aureus ACTT 25023 dan Escherichia coli ACTT 35218 selama 24 jam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol rimpang M. chinensis mengandung flavonoid, saponin, alkaloid, steroid, dan fenol, Ekstrak terbukti menghambat pertumbuhan E. coli dengan diameter zona hambat rata-rata secara berturut-turut pada konsentrasi 10%, 20%, dan 30% sebesar 6,08±1,79; 8,16±0,11 dan  10,57±1,34 mm. Pada S. aureus, zona hambat masing-masing konsentrasi 10%, 20%, dan  30% sebesar 5,02±0,79; 6,01±0,69; 8,03±0,76. Analisis One Way ANOVA menunjukkan perbedaan aktivitas antibakteri yang signifikan antar konsentrasi ekstrak pada E. coli dan S. aureus. Dapat disimpulkan rimpang M. chinensis memiliki aktivitas sebagai antibakteri.

Abstract

Etlingera rubroloba A.D. Poulsen merupakan tumbuhan yang digunakan secara tradisional oleh masyarakat Sulawesi Tenggara untuk menjaga kebugaran tubuh dan telah terbukti secara ilmiah mampu meningkatkan sistem imun bawaan melalui peningkatan ekspresi reseptor sel makrofag (CD14). Namun, pengaruhnya terhadap aktivitas fagositosis makrofag dan kadar sel limfosit T sitotoksik (CD8+) belum pernah dilaporkan. Penelitian ini bermaksud mengevaluasi ekstrak etanol rimpang E. rubroloba terhadap efek peningkatan fagositosis makrofag dan kadar CD8+ pada tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus) galur Wistar. Sebanyak 24 ekor tikus dibagi enam kelompok, yaitu kontrol normal, kontrol negatif, kontrol positif, serta kelompok ekstrak dosis 200, 300, dan 400 mg/kg BB. Ekstrak diberikan secara oral selama tujuh hari, kemudian pada hari kedelapan hewan uji diinfeksi Staphylococcus aureus secara intraperitoneal. Aktivitas fagositosis diamati secara mikroskopik, sedangkan kadar CD8+ diukur menggunakan metode ELISA. Dosis 300 mg/kg BB menghasilkan peningkatan aktivitas fagositosis tertinggi sebesar 77,25% dan kadar CD8+ tertinggi sebesar 650,71 ng/mL, dengan perbedaan bermakna dibandingkan kontrol negatif (p<0,05). Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa rimpang E. rubroloba berpotensi dikembangkan sebagai kandidat imunostimulator alami.
