Abstract

This study investigates gender-based differences in learning outcomes and motivation in digital game-based mathematics instruction using the Lectora Inspire platform. The primary focus centers on the effectiveness of two types of instructional feedback, MTF and STF. The study aims to explore how gender and feedback type interact in influencing cognitive learning gains as well as motivational and perceptual dimensions, including interest, competence, autonomy, effort, pressure-free experience, and perceived value of learning activities. Employing a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design, the study involved 81 third and fourth-grade students from three elementary schools in Jakarta, Indonesia, who were randomly assigned to either the MTF or STF group. Learning outcomes were assessed using standardized mathematics tests aligned with the national curriculum, while motivation was measured through the IMI. Two-way ANOVA and MANOVA analyses revealed that although male students scored higher on post-tests, female students demonstrated greater learning gains after controlling for pre-test scores, particularly under the STF condition. Female students also reported significantly higher motivation in the domains of interest and perceived competence, with no significant differences observed in autonomy. Furthermore, gender differences in perceptions of effort, pressure-free experience, and learning value were not statistically significant, though females showed more positive trends overall. Feedback condition alone did not significantly influence learning outcomes or student perceptions. These findings underscore the importance of incorporating gender-sensitive approaches when designing adaptive and inclusive digital feedback mechanisms in mathematics education.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Pandeglang is recorded as the district with the highest poverty rate in Banten Province until 2023. This is in contrast to the potential of the resources owned by the region. The superior plantation commodity in the form of coconut is one of the best and most abundant commodities in Banten Province. The problem found in Cilentung Village, Pulosari District, Pandeglang Regency is that people sell coconuts in bulk to the city, then the coconut waste is returned to the village, causing environmental pollution and no innovation in diversification of coconut waste derivative products. The purpose of PkM is to train the community in making Liquid Smoke from coconut waste to support the economic independence of the people of Cilentung Village, Pandeglang Regency. The methods used to answer this problem are socialization of liquid smoke waste into Liquid Smoke, application of pyrolysis technology and coconut waste shredding machines, training in Making Liquid Smoke from Coconut Waste, mentoring and evaluation of activities.

Abstract

Gender and cultural disparities remain pressing challenges in STEM education across Indonesia’s multi-ethnic regions, particularly in Sundaland, where variations in school accreditation, infrastructure readiness, and mother-tongue use stratify learning opportunities. This study examines differences in scientific literacy and numeracy, focusing on the roles of ethnicity, Socioeconomic Status (SES), and mother-tongue use, while also exploring their interactions with gender and school-level conditions. A quantitative survey design using Hierarchical Linear Modeling (HLM) was applied to capture both student- and school-level variations. Data were collected through literacy tests, questionnaires, and interviews from a stratified sample categorized by accreditation, gender, and SES. The results show that Javanese students achieved the highest scores, while Balinese students obtained the lowest in both competencies, largely reflecting differences in infrastructure and technological support. Male students outperformed in numeracy, whereas females excelled in scientific literacy. Mother-tongue use enhanced conceptual understanding, particularly among Batak and Minangkabau students with strong learning traditions. The implications of this research emphasize the need for inclusive and culturally responsive STEM education policies, which can be achieved by strengthening multilingual education, adopting ethnomathematics approaches, and equalizing school quality to reduce the gap in science literacy and numeracy.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the problem-solving and critical thinking abilities of prospective mathematics teachers in solving Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) problems on lines and angles through error analysis. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The research subjects consisted of 20 fourth-semester students of the Mathematics Education Study Program at Institut Pendidikan Tapanuli Selatan (IPTS). Data were collected through HOTS geometry tests, task-based interviews, and documentation of students’ written work. Error analysis was conducted using Newman’s Error Analysis (NEA), while critical thinking and problem-solving abilities were analyzed using the FRISCO and Krulik-Rudnick frameworks. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that students’ abilities were still in the moderate to low category. The dominant errors occurred at the transformation and process skills stages, indicating difficulties in converting visual representations into mathematical models and selecting appropriate solution strategies. In addition, students demonstrated weaknesses in critical thinking, particularly in reasoning, inference, and overview indicators. These errors were influenced by epistemological and ontogenic obstacles related to weak spatial ability and conceptual understanding of geometry. Therefore, HOTS-based learning emphasizing visualization, critical thinking, and systematic problem-solving is needed to improve prospective teachers’ mathematical abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of project-based learning (PjBL) in mathematics on the development of 21st-century skills, including critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. These skills are essential for preparing students to face the challenges of the modern era. However, traditional teaching methods often prove inadequate for optimizing these skills. Utilizing a 3×4 quasi-experimental factorial design, this study involved 90 students, proportionally selected from a population of 872 through random sampling. Data were collected using a learning style questionnaire, observations of teacher instructional methods, and a written test to measure 21st-century skills. Data were analyzed using tests for normality and two-way ANOVA. The results demonstrated that the PjBL approach significantly enhanced students' 21st-century skills (4Cs: Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication, Creativity), particularly for those with a kinesthetic learning style and when employing technology-based teaching methods. The interaction between PjBL, students' learning styles, and teachers' instructional methods was found to be effective in fostering the development of these skills, especially in the areas of creativity and problem-solving. This research underscores the importance of innovative approaches in mathematics education to support the development of 21st-century skills.
