Abstract

Global agriculture faces challenges such as climate change, soil degradation, and increasing food demand, necessitating innovative solutions for sustainable crop production. Agricultural biotechnology offers advanced tools to enhance crop resilience, improve yield, and reduce environmental impacts. This study aims to explore recent innovations in agricultural biotechnology, focusing on their potential to support sustainable crop production under diverse environmental conditions. The research employs a systematic literature review method, analyzing recent studies on genetic engineering, genome editing (CRISPR-Cas9), biofortification, and biopesticides. The review covers both laboratory and field trials to evaluate the effectiveness of these biotechnologies in improving crop traits such as drought tolerance, pest resistance, and nutritional quality. Key aspects considered include technological efficiency, scalability, and ecological impacts. Results indicate that innovations like CRISPR-Cas9 have significantly enhanced crop resilience, with increased drought tolerance and pest resistance observed in crops like maize, wheat, and rice. Biofortification has improved the nutritional quality of staple crops, addressing micronutrient deficiencies. The integration of biopesticides has reduced the reliance on chemical pesticides, contributing to more sustainable farming practices. The study concludes that agricultural biotechnology innovations hold significant promise for achieving sustainable crop production. However, their successful implementation requires supportive policies, farmer education, and ongoing research to ensure safety, scalability, and environmental compatibility. The findings highlight the need for a holistic approach to integrate biotechnological advancements into mainstream agriculture for long-term sustainability.

Abstract

Background: Penggunaan pestisida sintetis yang masih dominan dalam sektor pertanian berdampak buruk terhadap kesehatan dan lingkungan. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut, dilakukan pelatihan kepada mahasiswa mengenai pembuatan pestisida nabati yang ramah lingkungan dan mengangkat kearifan lokal. Metode: Pelatihan ini dilaksanakan dengan cara sosialisasi dan praktik langsing di Laboratorium Biologi Umum Universitas Lambung Mangkurat dengan melibatkan 46 mahasiswa, serta memanfaatkan bahan alami seperti daun mimba, kunyit, dan serai wangi. Hasil: Melalui sesi penyuluhan dan praktik langsung, terjadi peningkatan pemahaman dan keterampilan mahasiswa dalam meramu biopestisida. Pelatihan ini juga berkontribusi terhadap penguatan pertanian berkelanjutan serta mendorong softskill potensi kewirausahaan berbasis sumber daya lokal. Kesimpulan: Pelatihan pembuatan biopestisida nabati berhasil mencapai target yang telah direncanakan, yaitu meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan mahasiswa dalam mengembangkan solusi pengendalian OPT yang ramah lingkungan berbasis kearifan lokal.

Abstract

Biodiversity Park of Bukit Manjai Valley, South Kalimantan. The research employed a cruising method through direct observation and morphological documentation. Seven Araceae species were identified: Alocasia princeps, Alocasia sarawakensis, Amorphophallus borneensis, Amorphophallus paeoniifolius, Amorphophallus muelleri, Amydrium medium, and Schismatoglottis ahmadii. Each species showed distinct morphological traits and ecological adaptations to the tropical rainforest environment. Measurements of abiotic factors like temperature, humidity, light intensity, soil pH, and wind speed indicated suitable habitat conditions for Araceae. Scientifically, the study contributes valuable data to the enrichment of local taxonomic databases, serving as a reference for botanical classification and species verification in South Kalimantan. Moreover, the documentation strengthens baseline information needed for the conservation planning of endemic and potentially threatened Araceae species in the region. The results also have applied value for the development of local-content-based learning media in higher education, particularly in the Phanerogamae course.

Abstract

Plants play an important role in ecosystems, particularly in tropical rainforest ecosystems. This study aimed to develop a feasible plant identification field guide containing information on morphological descriptions, classifications, and photographs of plants from the Tropical Rainforest Biodiversity Park Area of Lembah Bukit Manjai. The book was developed using the Education Design Research (EDR) method proposed by Plomp & Nieveen. The preliminary research stage involved a needs analysis, the preparation of the field guide framework, and an inventory of plants found in the research area. The prototyping phase consisted of drafting the field guide and conducting validity tests by material and media experts. The validity results of the Important Plant Identification Field Guide in the Lembah Bukit Manjai Biodiversity Park from botanical material experts showed a very valid category (96.185%), while media experts also indicated a very valid result (98.57%). These validity results indicate that the field guide is valid in terms of content feasibility, presentation, and language, as well as media aspects including size, cover design, and content design. Therefore, this field guide can proceed to the assessment phase to evaluate its effectiveness as a contextual learning resource and as a supporting medium for biodiversity conservation in the Tropical Rainforest Biodiversity Park of Lembah Bukit Manjai.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The transformation of technology-based learning in higher education has encouraged pre-service teachers not only to understand biological concepts but also to develop digital learning media aligned with the characteristics of the material and contemporary learning needs. This study was conducted to analyze the ability of pre-service biology teachers to develop digital learning media for abstract and complex biology topics. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach involving 40 students of the Biology Education Study Program, FKIP Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, who were enrolled in the Biology Learning Media course during the even semester of the 2025 academic year. Data were collected through a self-assessment instrument evaluating the digital media products developed by the students based on aspects of content suitability, clarity of presentation, design creativity, language use, and media interactivity. The findings revealed that the students were able to produce various forms of digital learning media, including instructional videos, flipbooks, digital posters, interactive presentations, educational games, and augmented reality-based media. The assessment results also indicated that most of the developed media were categorized as good to very good, particularly in terms of content suitability and interactivity. The findings suggest that the experience of developing digital media provided opportunities for students to integrate technology, content presentation, and design creativity more effectively in biology learning. Therefore, the development of digital learning media can become an important component in strengthening the readiness of pre-service biology teachers to face technology-based learning in the modern educational era. ABSTRAK Transformasi pembelajaran berbasis teknologi di perguruan tinggi mendorong mahasiswa calon guru untuk tidak hanya memahami materi biologi, tetapi juga mampu mengembangkan media pembelajaran digital yang sesuai dengan karakteristik materi dan kebutuhan pembelajaran masa kini. Penelitian ini diarahkan untuk menganalisis kemampuan mahasiswa calon guru biologi dalam mengembangkan media pembelajaran digital pada materi biologi yang bersifat abstrak dan kompleks. Kajian dilakukan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif dengan melibatkan 40 mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi FKIP Universitas Lambung Mangkurat yang mengikuti mata kuliah media pembelajaran biologi pada semester genap tahun akademik 2025. Data diperoleh melalui instrumen self assessment terhadap produk media digital yang dikembangkan mahasiswa berdasarkan aspek kesesuaian materi, kejelasan penyajian, kreativitas desain, penggunaan bahasa, dan interaktivitas media. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa mampu menghasilkan berbagai bentuk media pembelajaran digital, meliputi video pembelajaran, flipbook, poster digital, presentasi interaktif, permainan edukatif, hingga media berbasis augmented reality. Hasil penilaian juga memperlihatkan bahwa sebagian besar media yang dikembangkan berada pada kategori baik hingga sangat baik, terutama pada aspek kesesuaian materi dan interaktivitas media. Temuan penelitian mengindikasikan bahwa pengalaman mengembangkan media digital memberi kesempatan kepada mahasiswa untuk mengintegrasikan teknologi, penyajian materi, dan kreativitas desain dalam pembelajaran biologi secara lebih variatif. Dengan demikian, pengembangan media pembelajaran digital dapat menjadi bagian penting dalam memperkuat kesiapan calon guru biologi menghadapi pembelajaran berbasis teknologi di era pendidikan modern.
