Abstract

Background: The world faces a pandemic caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARSCov-2). Because of the limitations as a developing country, Indonesia needs to do its activities efficiently in time, money, and human resource. This research aims to accurately determine a concrete mortality predictor to predictthe patients' mortality. One of the mortality predictors is the lymphocyte-monocyte ratio (LMR).Method: This research is observational analytic research using a cross-sectional study method. Data obtainedfrom the Medical Record & Casemix Room of RSUD Raden Mattaher. Results: Out of 115 samples, most patients were male (65 patients). The patients' age group was mainly youngerthan 65 (79%). The most common comorbidity was diabetes mellitus (43 patients). The correlation between LMRand mortality rate to be weak with the following results: Pearson coefficient(p=0.045), gamma coefficient (P=0.325),Somers' D test (P=0.167), odds ratio (1.833), AUC (58%), specificity (58%), sensitivity (56%), and intersection point(1,79).Conclusions: There is a weak correlation between LMR and the mortality rate of COVID-19 patients in RSUDRaden Mattaher. Keywords: Characteristics of COVID-19 patients, comorbidity of COVID-19 patients, LMR (Lymphocyte-monocyteratio), a mortality rate of COVID-19 patients.

Abstract

IL-6 has been shown to enhance collagen synthesis and prolong the fibroblast proliferative phase, potentially contributing to uncontrolled keloid growth. However, despite its frequent mention in the literature as a crucial factor in keloid formation, studies specifically exploring the molecular mechanisms of IL-6 in fibroblast regulation and its interaction with other cytokines within keloid tissue remain limited. This study aims to further investigate the role of IL-6 in keloid matrix formation. This study is an analytical study conducted cross-sectionally. The samples used were patients diagnosed with keloids histopathologically based on microscopic criteria. Clinical data were taken from medical records and microscopic and immunohistochemical assessments using paraffin blocks available in the anatomical pathology laboratory of hospitals in Jambi city. There were 36 cases of keloids, aged between 12 and 42 years, mostly in women (66.7%), occurring in the trunk area (77.8%) 30 cases of recurrence (83.3%). We found 24 cases (77.8%) with strong IL-6 immunoexpression. There were 3 cases (8.3%) with no immunoexpression. There was a strong correlation between IL-6 immunoexpression and gender (p=0.03), age(0.04) and recurrence (p=0.02). The role of fibroblast cells is very important for the process of collagen formation in wound healing. The role of fibroblast cells is very important for the process of collagen formation in wound healing, where interleukin-6 in various theories and studies supports the process of collagen formation.

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is one of the main contributors to the highest mortality and suffering rates in the 21st century. Based on global data in 2022, chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects more than 10% of the world's population, with an estimated 843 million people affected. Research results from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) data, the prevalence of chronic kidney failure (CKD) in Indonesia is 0.22% of the total population, an estimated 638,178 people suffer from CKD throughout Indonesia. Jambi Province has 0.15% of the population suffering from chronic kidney failure. Based on data on hemodialysis patient visits at Dr. Bratanata Class III Hospital, there is an increase in the number of visits from year to year. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the quality of hemodialysis services and patient satisfaction levels in the Hemodialysis Installation of Dr. Bratanata Class III Hospital. A total sampling technique was used to conduct the study in 2026, involving 86 patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis treatment at the outpatient hemodialysis unit. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and logistic regression. The study found a relationship between the dimensions of "Tengibels," "Reliability," "Responsiveness," and "Empathy" with patient satisfaction at the Hemodialysis Unit III of Dr. Bratanata Jambi Hospital, with p-values of 0.004, 0.012, 0.008, and 0.001, respectively. The most dominant factor associated with patient satisfaction at the Hemodialysis Unit III of Dr. Bratanata Jambi Hospital was the "Empathy" dimension (P-value = 0.108). Hospital management is expected to continuously improve service quality across all aspects of the "Tenibels," "Reliability," "Responsiveness," "Assurance," and "Empathy" dimensions.

Abstract

Post-cesarean section (CS) pain is a clinical problem that can hinder early mobilization, breastfeeding, and patient recovery. The Transversus Abdominis Plane (TAP) block is a regional analgesia technique developed as part of multimodal analgesia to reduce postoperative somatic pain following a cesarean section. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Transversus Abdominis Plane (TAP) block on pain scores in patients following a cesarean section at Raden Mattaher General Hospital in Jambi. A prospective cohort study was conducted on 20 patients who had undergone cesarean section (SC), divided into a TAP block group (n=10) and a no-TAP-block group (n=10). Sampling was performed using consecutive sampling. Pain levels were measured using the VAS score at 4, 6, 12, and 24 hours post-surgery. Analysis was performed using the Mann–Whitney test for data that were not normally distributed and the independent t-test for normally distributed data, with a significance level of p<0.05. The TAP block group showed lower pain scores than the group without a TAP block at all observation times. However, there were no statistically significant differences in VAS scores at 4 hours (p=0.178), 6 hours (p=0.054), 12 hours (p=0.230), 24 hours (p=0.298), or in the mean VAS score (p=0.097). A history of cesarean section was significantly associated with pain scores at 24 hours postoperatively. The TAP block has not been statistically proven to effectively reduce the severity of post-cesarean section pain in this study, although it showed a tendency to result in lower pain scores compared to the group without a TAP block

Abstract

Exposure to cigarette smoke can cause lung tissue damage through mechanisms of chronic inflammation and oxidative stress. Melaleuca cajuputi essential oil contains 1,8-cineole and flavonoids, which possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, thereby offering potential protective effects on lung tissue. This study aimed to analyze the effects of Melaleuca cajuputi essential oil on the histopathological features of the lungs in cigarette smoke-induced rats. This experimental study used 28 male Wistar rats divided into four groups: negative control, positive control (cigarette smoke exposure), treatment group 1 (cigarette smoke exposure + Melaleuca cajuputi aromatherapy at a dose of 0.5 mL), and treatment group 2 (cigarette smoke exposure + aromatherapy at a dose of 1 mL). The treatments were administered for 30 days, with exposure to two cigarettes per day and aromatherapy for 15 minutes daily. Histopathological parameters assessed included inflammatory cell infiltration and alveolar septal destruction. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis test and Mann–Whitney test. The results showed that administration of Melaleuca cajuputi at a dose of 0.5 mL significantly reduced inflammatory cell infiltration scores and alveolar septal destruction compared to the positive control group. Administration of the 1 mL dose significantly reduced inflammatory cell infiltration; however, it did not show a significant difference in alveolar septal destruction compared to the positive control group.
