Abstract

This research aimed to identify students’ challenges and strategies in learning English for the fourth semester of English education study program at STKIP PGRI Lubuklinggau. The method used qualitative survey in this research. The population and sample or research subject were 32 students taken by simple random sampling total sample were 16 students. Data collection by using questionnaire and interview. Technique for analyzing the data used findings the result of percentage. The result of this research were trigger students ability, Second, made students think about English, Third, made students improving students’ skills, Fourth, made learning easier andFive, as students’ motivation in learning English. In conclusion, the challenges is very important for students in learning English because it can help students easier in learning English. Keywords: Challenges, Learning English, Strategies

Abstract

This research aimed to discover the lecturers' challenges in teaching during the pandemic situation at PGRI Silampari University. The method used in this research was the descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of this research were five lecturers in the English education study program. In collecting the data, the researcher used two instruments. There were questionnaires and interviews. The researcher followed three concurrent activity flows to analyze the data: data condensation, data display, and conclusion, for the results showed some challenges they faced when implementing teaching and learning activities in blended learning both in the online and offline classroom. The challenges were the lack of student control and monitoring, the problem in applying technology, and the problem with time allocation due to the Pandemic. In conclusion, students faced many challenges in teaching by applying blended learning during Pandemic Covid -19 at PGRI Silampari University. Keywords: blended learning, challenges, lecturer. Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out the classroom language used by the Primary teachers in EFL classroom. The sample of the research was 3 teachers in grade 2, 5 and 6 at Palm Kids Elementary School of Lubuklinggau. The samples were taken through non probability as the technique of sampling. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research and the data were collected by using observation, interview, and documentation(field note and video recording). The result revealed that Classroom Languages used by the English teachers’ were: Exclusive use of L1, Exclusive use of TL, and Use of L1 immediately followed by the equivalents in the other language. In the other English teachers’ responded towards are the classroom language used helping the students understood the meaning, made the students easier to understood the material, helped students to understand what English said, helped to explain the material more detail in teaching and learning process and made the students have to master English well.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the expert validity of developed modul “General English Modul” at PGRI Silampari University (UNPARI). The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative. There were three experts in validating the modul. They were expert of content, expert of instructional design and expert of media. The instrument used in collecting data was questionnaire. In analyzing data, the researchers read all comments given by experts for each espertise (data condensation). After that, the coment was interpreted by the researchers and rechecked to the experts (data display). Finally, the developed modul was revised based on the suggestion. For the results showed that for content validity, the expert coclude that the modul was in highly validity, but she suggested some revision. In validating instructional design, the expert also received the modul but with some revisions. And the last, there were some aspect of media such as the brightness of the cover, pictures and color must be revised. Finally, in conclusion, the modul of General English subject at UNPARI was accepted with some revision. Keywords: General English Modul, Validity

Abstract

The problem of this study is: “What kinds of imagery are used in the collection of Robert Frost’s poems?”. Therefore, the objective of this study is to describe the kinds of imagery in Robert Frost’s poems entitled “After Apple-Picking, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, The Road Not Taken, To Earthward, Wind and Window Flower, Out-Out, Fire and Ice, Nothing Gold Can Stay, Acquainted with the Night, and A Time To Talk”. The writer used content analysis to classify and analyze the data. The approach used in collecting the data was descriptive qualitative. After investigating the kinds of 10 collections of poems written by Robert Frost, the writer found 95 imagery. The imagery in Robert Frost’s poems has been analyzed in kinds: (1) 37 visual, (2) 20 auditory, (3) 17 kinesthetic, (4) 9 organic, (5) 5 olfactory, (6) 4 tactile, and (7) 3 gustatory. Abstract

The problem of the research is: “How are the students’ perception between distance learning and classroom learning at English Education Study Program of STKIP PGRI Lubuklinggau”. The objectives of the research were to find out and to describe Students’ perceptions about distance learning and classroom learning at English Education Study Program of STKIP PGRI Lubuklinggau. The sample was 30 students of English Education Study Program. The samples were taken through stratified random sampling. The researcher used a survey research, and the data were collected by using questionnaire and interview. Techniques for analyzing the data used simple basic statically techniques. The data were score by using Likert Scale. The result of the research was the students studied negative and positive with distance learning; students cannot handle the whole material perfectly because distance learning was signals of phone and the mobile data, they had a flexibility in taking time on work. They more understanding the material when they used technology. Besides, in the result studied negative and positive of classroom learning; the time and energy that is used more in learning activities. They had better interaction between students and lecture because learning in class interaction between lecturers and students is closer both emotionally and verbally.
