Abstract

Central Sulawesi's agricultural sector is classified as a substantial sector. This study aims to identify the existence of the agricultural sector in the economic structure of Central Sulawesi. Data analysis used Location Quotient (LQ), Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ), and Shift Share Analysis methods. The data used is based from the Central Statistics Agency for Central Sulawesi and Indonesia in 2015-2020 based on constant prices. The results showed that the agricultural sector of Central Sulawesi was classified as the base sector with the highest average LQ value and was followed by the mining and quarrying sector. Meanwhile, the results of the DLQ analysis show that the agricultural sector is threatened with repositioning in the future. The combined analysis of LQ and DLQ indicates that the agricultural sector in Central Sulawesi is on a basic non-prospective. The results of shift-share analysis (Nij) show that the highest performance in the agricultural sub-sector is produced by the plantation sub-sector and the fishery sub-sector. The industrial mix value (Mij) from the agricultural sector and all sub-sectors mostly shows negative numbers, so only three agricultural sub-sectors, including the developed sector in Central Sulawesi Province include the horticulture sub-sector, livestock sub-sector, and fishery sub-sector. Based on the value (Cij) of the agricultural sector, it shows a negative number, so the sub-sectors that need to be improved include the food crops sub-sector, the horticulture sub-sector, the plantation sub-sector, and the fisheries sub-sector. It is necessary to pay attention to increasing labor wages in the agricultural sector and improving the performance of agro-industry in Central Sulawesi to create added value.

Abstract

Many factors influence the development of oil palm, including socio-economic factors. Factors supporting success in oil palm cultivation must be considered as their contribution to the competitiveness of Indonesian palm oil to be accepted in export-destination countries. This study aims to determine the influence of socioeconomic factors on the competitiveness of oil palm. This research was conducted in Kertabumi Village, Kuaro District, Paser Regency, East Kalimantan Province. Data was collected in July-August 2023 with the questionnaires and interviews with respondents. Respondents in this study amounted to 65 farmers were determined using purposive sampling who members of the Bumi Subur cooperative in Kertabumi Village, Kuaro District, Paser Regency. The data analysis method uses the structural equation model-partial least square with the help of Smart-PLS software to find out what socio-economic factors affect the competitiveness of oil palm in Paser Regency, East Kalimantan Province. The results showed that the innovation factor of oil palm cultivation and the factor of production facilities had a positive and significant effect on the competitiveness of oil palm in Paser Regency, especially in Kuaro District, Kerta Bumi Village. This states that one way to improve the competitiveness of oil palm is to pay attention to the old factors of oil palm cultivation innovation, such as cultivating according to operational standards and environmentally friendly, to get an ISPO certificate. Abstract

Post-mining land rehabilitation is an important strategy to mitigate climate change and conserve tropical ecosystems. Surface mining activities in East Kalimantan have caused ecological degradation and the release of carbon stored in vegetation and soils. Revegetation has been widely practiced as the main approach to restore ecosystem functions, including initial carbon accumulation by understory plants. This study aims to estimate the carbon stock of the understory on post-mining land that has undergone revegetation for one year at the PT Insani Baraperkasa site in Loa Janan, East Kalimantan. The method used was destructive sampling of understory biomass from 10 plots measuring 5 m x 5 m, each with subplots measuring 0.5 m x 0.5 m. Biomass samples were dried and converted to carbon. The results showed an average carbon stock of 1.26 tons/ha. These results suggest that understorey vegetation plays an important role in early stage carbon recovery on post-mining land. Understory carbon monitoring can be an effective early indicator to measure the success of ecosystem restoration. Keywords: revegetation, understorey, post-mining, carbon

Abstract

Environmentally friendly and sustainable palm oil management is one way that can be done in the face of competition for palm oil products produced. The Indonesian sustainable palm oil (ISPO) certification is the standard used in Indonesia, which needs effort and support from various parties. The purpose of this study was to formulate a strategy to strengthen the impact of ISPO implementation on KUD Bumi Subur Kertabumi Village Kuaro District Paser Regency. The research was conducted in July 2024. Data collection methods through surveys, and interviews with the help of questionnaires. In addition, focus group discussions were also conducted with smallholders and experts to formulate alternative strategies. The data analysis method used is the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method for weighing alternative strategies to strengthen the impact of ISPO implementation. The results showed that alternative strategies for strengthening socio-economic impacts were based on the criteria of human resource management, with the alternative of smallholders understanding the standards of ISPO implementation. At the same time, strengthening environmental impacts on waste management criteria, namely distinguishing hazardous waste (B3) as an alternative strategy. Each alternative in the criteria is mutually supportive and related, but smallholders can determine the things that are prioritized to be done.
