Abstract

Poor sleep quality is a common complaint among pregnant women, yet it is often underestimated as a factor that may contribute to the morbidity of both the mother and the fetus. Non-pharmacological interventions to improve sleep quality in pregnant women could serve as a therapeutic option with minimal side effects. Unfortunately, research on non-pharmacological interventions combining prenatal gentle yoga with dhikr is still rare. This study aims to investigate the effect of the prenatal gentle yoga and dhikr combination on the pregnant women’s sleep quality. This is a quasi-experimental study with pre-and post-design. The study was conducted at the Bajeng Health Center, Gowa Regency, from April to May 2022. The sample was selected using purposive sampling, resulting in 15 samples. Pregnant women were given the prenatal gentle yoga and dhikr combination intervention three times within one month, with a duration of 10-15 minutes per session. Sleep quality was measured before and after the intervention using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Univariate analysis and bivariate analysis were conducted using descriptive analysis and the Wilcoxon test, respectively. The results showed that there was an effect of the prenatal gentle yoga and dhikr combination on the pregnant women’s sleep quality (p-value 0.00). This intervention was effective in improving the pregnant women’s sleep quality. The findings of this study highlight the need for healthcare providers to recommend this minimal side-effect intervention as a complementary therapy. Further research with a bigger sample size is needed to explore the broader benefits of this combined intervention.

Abstract

Pregnancy constitutes a component of the broader human reproductive process. A salient issue during pregnancy is chronic energy deficiency (CED), defined as a condition in which an individual manifests nutritional deficiencies (calories and protein) that persist over an extended duration or are characterized as chronic. This condition can lead to various health complications for both mother and fetus, including an increased risk of low birth weight (LBW), miscarriage, premature birth, congenital disorders, small head size in newborns, maternal and infant mortality, difficult labor, postpartum hemorrhage, and cesarean section (CS) delivery due to mother's condition, which often results in a lack of energy to undergo a normal childbirth. The objective of this study is to ascertain the efficacy of telenursing in enhancing health literacy among pregnant women grappling with CED. This article utilizes a case study approach, employing instruments to assess the knowledge level of pregnant women and their nutritional status. The intervention strategy employed to address CED involves some improvement in health literacy through telenursing. The measurement of knowledge level and nutritional monitoring were carried out over a period of 14 days. The findings indicate that clients exhibited an enhancement in knowledge levels following the provision of health literacy and nutrition education. Furthermore, the study found that pregnant women were able to effectively manage their nutritional needs during pregnancy. The efficacy of telenursing in improving health literacy concerning nutritional needs among pregnant women susceptible to CED is substantiated by this study. Thus, it is recommended that frontline health workers consider utilizing telenursing in healthcare services, particularly in providing education and support for pregnant women, as a strategic approach to addressing Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) during pregnancy

Abstract

Pregnancy represents a dynamic phase in a woman's life, encompassing physical, emotional, and spiritual changes. Enhancing spiritual literacy among pregnant women is essential for maintaining psychological well-being and preparing for the childbirth experience. This community service initiative employed the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach to enhance the spiritual awareness and experiences of pregnant women. Conducted at the Tamalanrea Jaya Health Center in 2024, the program engaged 20 pregnant women as participants. Post-intervention findings indicated a notable improvement in participants’ understanding of the significance of spirituality during pregnancy, along with increased feelings of calmness and emotional comfort in managing their pregnancies. These outcomes underscore the relevance of spiritual literacy as a critical dimension of holistic maternal health. The integration of spiritual care into maternal health services—along with the use of digital health strategies such as telenursing—is recommended to ensure accessible, effective, and patient-centered care for pregnant women.
