Abstract

This study aims to examine the utilization patterns of groundnut waste within the cattle integration system practiced by farming communities in Pujananting District, Barru Regency. The research was conducted from April to June. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, with data collected through observation, questionnaires, and interviews with farmer-livestock breeders. The results show that groundnut waste, such as straw and peanut shells, is widely used as an alternative feed for cattle, either directly or through fermentation processes. The use of this waste is considered capable of reducing production costs by up to 30%. Furthermore, the integration system forms a sustainable agricultural cycle, in which livestock manure is reused as organic fertilizer for groundnut crops. This study reveals that the utilization of agricultural waste holds significant potential for improving efficiency, productivity, and the economic resilience of rural farmers. In addition to enhancing the efficient use of local resources, the integration system is circular in nature, where cattle manure serves as organic fertilizer for groundnut crops, thereby strengthening the sustainability of integrated farming systems in rural areas.

Abstract

Global challenges such as climate change and land degradation demand the strengthening of the agricultural sector through the adoption of relevant technologies. Agricultural extension plays an important role in conveying information and technological innovations to farmers, with extension workers as facilitators, educators, and motivators in accelerating the implementation of agricultural technology packages. However, the rate of adoption of technology by farmers is still low, especially in Tana Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi. In addition, there is no comprehensive and results-based evaluation system for extension workers. This study aims to determine the level of farmers' understanding of agricultural technology packages introduced by agricultural extension workers in Batu Papan Village, Makale District, Tana Toraja Regency. The research uses a descriptive quantitative approach with the object of the study, namely Field Agricultural Extension Workers (PPL) active in Makale District as many as seven people and 139 assisted farmers from six farmer groups. Farmer samples were taken as much as 20% of the population or 30 respondents using census and purposive sampling techniques. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire with a Likert scale to assess farmers' perception and level of understanding of the implementation of agricultural technology packages. The results showed that the level of farmers' understanding of the technology package introduced by extension workers was in the "very high" category with an index value of 82.6%. These findings show that extension workers have an effective role in increasing farmers' knowledge and involvement. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the support of extension facilities and infrastructure, such as technological teaching aids, audiovisual media, and field transportation, to support the optimization of the performance of agricultural extension workers in the region.

Abstract

Abstract

Breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) from Bone has long been recognized, particularly in South Sulawesi, and the region is one of the main national production centers. Efforts to enhance the added value of breadfruit are carried out through small and medium enterprises (SMEs) engaged in processing activities. The Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) Temmappettue in Ulaweng Subdistrict represents one of the local initiatives focusing on processing breadfruit into derivative products such as chips and flour. This study aims to analyze capacity-strengthening strategies for breadfruit-based SMEs managed by BUMDes Temmappettue by identifying internal and external factors and formulating appropriate strategic priorities. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observation, documentation, and literature review. Data analysis was conducted using a SWOT approach, followed by the construction of IFAS and EFAS matrices to determine the enterprise’s strategic position. The findings reveal that the main strengths lie in the strong reputation of Bone breadfruit and the possession of business legality and product certifications, while the major weaknesses include limited skilled human resources and suboptimal use of digital marketing. Opportunities that can be leveraged include training and mentoring support from stakeholders and partnerships with culinary businesses, whereas the primary threats are the company’s limited adaptability to dynamic marketing trends and the seasonal nature of breadfruit as raw material. The SWOT mapping places the enterprise in Quadrant I (aggressive strategy), indicating that development strategies should focus on product diversification, human resource capacity building, optimization of digital marketing, and brand strengthening through product certification and business legality. The study concludes that strengthening breadfruit-based SMEs under BUMDes Temmappettue in Bone Regency has the potential to enhance competitiveness, expand market access, and contribute to local food security and rural community welfare.

Abstract

The silk industry in Wajo Regency carries significant historical and cultural value, yet its sustainability is challenged by limited raw materials, market competition, and underutilized local resources. This study analyzes the business model of Losari Silk using the Business Model Canvas (BMC) framework and explores opportunities for sustainable development. A qualitative descriptive approach was applied through observation and in-depth interviews with business owners and key partners. The results show that Losari Silk already has a solid business model, but further innovation is required, particularly in optimizing social media, improving raw material management, and expanding collaborations with government and private sectors. The findings also suggest that supportive policies are needed to strengthen entrepreneurial capacity through digital technology, wider partnerships, and better access to resources. Strengthened synergy among entrepreneurs, government, and private stakeholders is expected to create a sustainable business ecosystem, enhance competitiveness, preserve cultural heritage, and contribute to regional economic growth.

Abstract

The current situation in Tana Toraja Regency indicates that the capacity of farmers in Tana Toraja needs to be continuously improved so they can optimize the potential of existing land and commodities. Agricultural extension programs in Tana Toraja have been and continue to be implemented, but the extent to which these programs contribute significantly to improving farmers' knowledge, skills, and attitudes still requires further in-depth study. Therefore, this research is relevant and urgent to comprehensively analyze the contribution of agricultural extension services in improving farmer capacity in Tana Toraja Regency, so that it can provide constructive input for the formulation of more effective extension policies and strategies in the future. This study used the Likert scale method, a method used to measure a person's attitudes, opinions, or perceptions of a statement. The sample in the study was taken using purposive sampling. The results showed that agricultural extension significantly contributed to increasing farmer capacity, both in terms of knowledge, skills, and attitude change. The questionnaire results showed that the average Likert score was in the high category (3.77–4.49) for all indicators. Farmers stated that they had a better understanding of rice cultivation techniques (average score 4.49), pest/disease control (4.29), and were more skilled in using agricultural machinery (3.77). Most farmers implemented the results of extension training on their land (4.49), experienced increased yields (4.43), and were motivated to continue learning and participating in training (4.49). Overall, agricultural extension training in this region has proven effective in increasing farmer capacity, particularly in terms of technical understanding, practical skills, and positive attitudes toward agricultural technology innovation. However, strategies are needed to increase the participation of inactive farmers and expand the scope of materials on marketing and processing of agricultural products.
