Abstract

This study aims to examine the interpretative role of the Korean boyband Seventeen in shaping identity and consumptive behavior within the CARAT fandom community in Medan. The K-Pop phenomenon as a global cultural force not only influences entertainment but also constructs the personal and social identities of its fans. This research employed a qualitative descriptiveinterpretative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, community observations, and documentation of related cultural products. Data analysis was carried out thematically and semiotically to uncover patterns of meaning, symbols, and communicative processes within fandom interactions. The findings reveal that being a CARAT is perceived not merely as a fan identity but as an integral part of self-concept, providing emotional support, social belonging, and motivation. Values promoted by Seventeen, such as hard work, solidarity, empathy, and perseverance, are internalized by fans and reflected in their daily behavior. Consumptive practices, including the purchase of albums, merchandise, and event participation, are understood not only as economic transactions but also as symbolic expressions of identity and social status. The CARAT Medan community plays a vital role as a reference group that negotiates identity while moderating consumer behavior by promoting financial awareness and ethical consumption, thus preventing social or economic pressure. The study concludes that fandom identity is a dynamic social construction that functions as a space for self-affirmation, personal development, and responsible consumption, highlighting that K-Pop fandoms are not merely entertainment spaces but also arenas for identity formation and ethical, sustainable consumer practices.

Abstract

The construction of residential housing is a complex process that requires optimal time management to ensure timely project completion. Delays in construction project implementation are often caused by various internal and external factors, such as limited resources, weather conditions, and challenges in coordinating project activities. This research aims to optimize the construction duration of a type 130 residential house in Bontang City through the application of the Critical Path Method (CPM). This method functions to identify the critical path in the stages of project activities and determine the estimated minimum project completion duration. Project activity data were obtained through field observations and interviews with the project implementers, then analyzed using the CPM approach by calculating Early Start (ES), Early Finish (EF), Late Start (LS), and Late Finish (LF). The analysis results indicate that by identifying and managing the critical path, the project—which was initially estimated to take 166 days—can be completed in 135 days with a total of 13 main activities, resulting in a time acceleration of 31 days. This study demonstrates that the CPM method is effective in controlling project execution time and has the potential to serve as a strategic solution to minimize delays in similar future projects

Abstract

This study examines the impact of cultural awareness on the sustainability of tourist villages in Bali, with government support and communication patterns as moderating variables. The research employs a quantitative approach, utilizing Smart PLS for data analysis, with a sample of 100 respondents from tourist villages in Bali, a region known for its rich cultural diversity and environmental challenges from mass tourism. The findings indicate that cultural awareness significantly influences the sustainability of tourist villages (T statistic = 9.563, p-value = 0.000), while government support has a marginally significant effect (T statistic = 1.893, p-value = 0.059). However, communication patterns do not show a significant impact (T statistic = 0.355, p-value = 0.723). Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) reveals that government support strengthens the relationship between cultural awareness and sustainability, whereas communication patterns do not significantly alter this effect. These results suggest that while cultural awareness is a key determinant of sustainability, government support plays a critical moderating role, emphasizing the need for stronger policy interventions to enhance sustainable tourism development in Bali’s tourist villages.

Abstract

This study addresses a notable gap in linguistic landscape research by focusing on the language variations displayed on trucks in South Sulawesi, a mobile medium of public text that has received limited scholarly attention. The research data was obtained through observation and documentation of trucks in several areas in South Sulawesi. It was found that there are 21 data which consists of Indonesian, local languages, and foreign languages. The collected data then qualitatively analyzed using content analysis techniques. The data obtained from observation and interviews were processed and thematically analyzed to explore patterns of language and cultural usage on trucks in South Sulawesi. The findings reveal that language choices align closely with socio-economic environments, where Indonesian is predominantly used in urban areas, local languages are more common in rural settings, and bilingual expressions often appear in suburban zones. These inscriptions are not only functional but also serve as markers of identity, cultural pride, and modern sensibilities, especially among younger drivers influenced by global media and popular culture. This research contributes to the broader discourse on linguistic landscapes by introducing the concept of vehicular language as a dynamic site of cultural negotiation. The insights gained have implications for sociolinguistic studies, cultural identity research, and creative industries seeking to understand how language, space, and mobility interact within Indonesia’s complex linguistic ecosystem.

Abstract

This article discusses the Islamization of ethnic Chinese in Medan City, 1961-1998. The entry of ethnic Chinese in Medan City has a different time span and two waves have occurred. The first wave began when the Chinese trade fleet came to visit the port and conducted trade relations, then the second wave when the Dutch needed workers engaged in plantations. In this study using historical methods. The procedures that have been implemented in this study are heuristics (collection of sources), verification (historical criticism), interpretation, and historiography. The Islamization of Chinese ethnics in the city of Medan is due to the belief that occurs in someone who wants to embrace Islam, not because of coercion that must be faced. This belief is attended by a special interest in getting to know Islamic teachings after comparing them with the teachings of other religions. In addition, because of the calm and comfort that is felt after embracing Islam.
