Abstract

Ocimum basilicum L. merupakan spesies dari famili Lamiaceae yang tersebar di berbagai negara tropis salah satunya Indonesia. Secara empiris, khasiat yang dimiliki beragam. Metode yang digunakan yaitu pengumpulan dan skrinning data yang memiliki kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi. Hasil yang diperoleh yaitu berbagai informasi mengenai senyawa kimia yang terkandung serta bioaktivitas yang dilaporkan baik secara in silico, in vitro maupun in vivo. Aktivitas farmakologi yang ditimbulkan diantaranya analgesik, sedatif, anti-inflamasi, antioksidan, anti-aging, antimikroba, antifungi dan antivirus diakibatkan oleh senyawa eugenol, linalool, β-Caryophyllene dan senyawa minyak atsiri lainnya. Disarankan dilakukannya penelitian lebih lanjut untuk memperoleh produk fitofarmaka.Kata kunci     : Ocimum basilicum L., kemangi, minyak atsiri, bioaktivitas

Abstract

Saat ini Bilberry telah dikenal dikalangan optamologis sebagai tumbuhan obat yang dapat berperan dalam kesehatan mata. Di sekitar kawah pegunungan Patuha (Bandung selatan) dapat dijumpai tumbuhan yang cukup mendominasi vegetasi di daerah tersebut yaitu tumbuhan cantigi ungu (Vaccinium varingiaefolium (Bl.) Miq.). Melalui pendekatan kemotaksonomi maka cantigi ungu dapat berpotensi sebagai obat untuk memelihara kesehatan mata. Diet antioksidan merupakan tindakan preventif dalam menanggulangi gangguan kesehatan, salah satunya seperti yang telah dilaporkan bahwa diet antioksidan dapat membantu memelihara kesehatan penglihatan khususnya dapat berpotensi mengobati katarak (Carey et al., 2011; Varma et al., 2012). Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mengetahui khasiat antioksidan yang dimiliki tumbuhan cantigi ungu. Tahapan metode yang dilakukan yaitu pengumpulan bahan, ekstraksi, pengukuran kadar flavonoid total dan pengujian aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak buah cantigi ungu menggunakan metode DPPH (2,2-difenil-1-pikrilhidrazil). Dari hasil penelitian kadar flavonoid total ekstrak cantigi ungu yaitu 37.6 ppm ekuivalen kuersetin. Untuk pengujian kemampuan antioksidan cantigi ungu lebih rendah dibanding vitamin C dan tablet ekstrak bilberry dari data IC50 yang didapat yaitu IC50 vitamin C 5.710 ppm; IC50 Ekstrak cantigi ungu 242.924 ppm; IC50 Tablet Ekstrak bilberry 44.994 ppm.Kata kunci : Vaccinium, Cantigi ungu, Bilberry, Antioksidan

Abstract

Background: Garlic (Allium sativum, L) was used empirically by the ancestors as a useful plant for hypercholesterolemia. The processed garlic product, namely black garlic, has gone through an optimal heating process at a temperature of 70oC for 21 days. Black garlic can become a standardized herb if it has been through characterization and toxicity tests. Methods: The characterization test is known by measuring several general standard parameters of Indonesian extracts. Acute toxicity test was carried out by dividing 5 treatment groups namely negative control, group I (5 mg/kg BW), group II (50 mg/kg BW), group III (300 mg/kg BW), group IV (2000 mg/kg BW). Results: The results showed that the standardization of black garlic extract has a drying shrinkage content of 7.24%, a water content of 8.8%, a total ash content of 4.79%, an acid insoluble ash content of 1.52%, a water soluble extract content of 7.47% and an ethanol soluble extract content of 9.3% which is still into the Indonesian herbal pharmacopoeia standard and the administration of black garlic ethanol extract caused mild toxic symptoms during the acute toxicity test and obtained LD50 values > 2000 mg/kg BW. Conclusion: Characterization of black garlic extract according to standardization parameters of Indonesian plant extracts and administration of ethanolic extract of black garlic has an LD50 value > 2000 mg/kg BW which is included in category 5 in the OECD.

Abstract

Black garlic is garlic fermented in high temperature and humidity, and the fermentation compound chemical in garlic changes to new chemicals, such as S-allyl cysteine (SAC), S-allylmercapto-cysteine, and arginine. The color changed to dark brown during the aging period because of the Maillard reaction, known as non-enzymatic browning reaction. Black garlic has 57.14% of fructose, 6.78% of glucose, and 7.62% of sucrose, which were mainly saccharides in black garlic to answer for its sweet taste. It is such a pharmacological activity which contains antioxidant, anti-cancer, hepatoprotective, can improve the immune system, reduce hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and anti-allergic. We summarize the current knowledge of a change in the components, bioactivity, production, and applications of black garlic, as well as the proposed future prospects on their possible applications as a functional pharmacy product.

Abstract

The community has used black garlic since ancient times for hypercholesterolemic. Until now, people still consume both raw and cooked black garlic. Black garlic is included in processed garlic products. People on the Asian continent have used black garlic for the past 10 years. This study aims to determine the sub-chronic toxic effect of black garlic ethanol extract on male and female white rats using hematological parameters consisting of hematocrit, hemoglobin, erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets, MCV, MCH, and MCHC. This research method was a completely randomized design with the administration of ethanolic extract of black garlic to rats in 5 treatment groups, including a negative control group, a dose group of 1000 mg/kg BW, a dose group of 2000 mg/kg BW, a negative control satellite group and a satellite group with a dose of 2000 mg/kg BW. Data were analyzed statistically using one-way ANOVA with a 95% confidence level and SPSS version 20. The study results of black garlic ethanol extract showed no significant effect or were at normal levels on hematological parameters. Therefore, it can be concluded that the ethanolic extract of black garlic is safe for human use as a treatment for hypercholesterolemia.

Abstract

Kecombrang (Etlingera elatior) merupakan tanaman suku Zingiberaceae yang memiliki potensi sebagai antioksidan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan dan sitotoksik terhadap larva udang dari ekstrak daun, bunga, dan rimpang kecombrang, serta menetapkan kadar senyawa fenol totalnya. Sampel daun, bunga, dan rimpang kecombrang dimaserasi dengan pelarut etanol 70% selama 3x24 jam dalam suhu ruangan. Ekstrak yang didapat selanjutnya dievaporasi pada suhu 50 0C sehingga menghasilkan ekstrak kental. Uji aktivitas antioksidan dilakukan menggunakan metode peredaman radikal bebas 1,1-difenil-2-pikrihidrazil (DPPH), dan uji sitotoksik menggunakan metode BSLT (Brine Scrimp Lethality Test). Penetapan kadar fenol total dengan standar asam galat menggunakan reagen Folin Ciocalteu yang diukur dengan spektrofotometer pada panjang gelombang 765 nm. Aktivitas antioksidan dari ekstrak daun, bunga, dan rimpang kecombrang ditunjukkan oleh nilai IC50 masing-masing 52,05; 457,54; dan 310,69 ppm. Aktivitas sitotosik yang dinyatakan dalam nilai LC50 dari ketiga bahan tersebut berturut-turut adalah 859,039; 418,022; dan 1261,202 ppm. Kadar senyawa fenol total ekstrak daun, bunga, dan rimpang kecombrang dihitung sebagai asam galat ekuivalen berturut-turut sebesar 0,339% ± 0,006; 0,144% ± 0,024; dan 0,074% ± 0,018. Ekstrak daun kecombrang menunjukkan aktivitas antioksidan yang paling baik dan kadar fenol total paling tinggi dibandingkan ekstrak bunga dan rimpang kecombrang. Ekstrak daun dan bunga kecombrang menunjukkan potensi sebagai agen antikanker karena menunjukkan nilai LC50  1000 ppm.

Abstract

Plants in the Costus genus are known to have various activities, starting from an antibacterial agent, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, antidiabetic, and so on. From some previous studies that have been conducted, it is stated that some Costus plants have a high potential to be a prospective anticancer candidate in the future. This review will discuss botanical and chemical overview, traditional uses, and potential anticancer activity of several Costus plants, namely C.speciosus, C.igneus, C.spiralis, and C.pictus. In conclusion, anticancer activity assay was carried out by several methods using various cell cultures resulting in an IC50 value ranging from strong and very strong, with the strongest potency belonging to C.speciosus with an IC50 value of 13.87 µg/ml. In addition, the active phytoconstituent, mainly diosgenin, contributes to the anticancer activity, which also strengthens the potential of Costus plants.

Abstract

Penelitian mengenai aktivitas antiinflamasi keladi belau (Caladium bicolor (W. Ait) Vent.) terhadap enzim siklooksigenase (COX) secara in vitro telah dilakukan. Aktivitas antiinflamasi secara in vitro terhadap enzim COX ditentukan dengan menggunakan metode TMPD (N,N,N’,N’-tetrametil-p-fenilendiamin) secara spektrofotometri. Enzim COX yang diuji meliputi enzim COX-1 dan COX-2. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian diketahui ekstrak batang keladi belau mempunyai aktivitas antiinflamasi dengan nilai IC50 sebesar 250,66 ppm terhadap COX-1 dan 255,27 ppm terhadap COX-2. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak tersebut lebih banyak menghambat enzim COX-1.
