Abstract

Daun Rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum L.) mengandung metabolit sekunder seperti flavonoid, tanin, dan saponin. Kandungan metabolit sekunder tersebut dapat membantu pembentukan kolagen sehingga mempercepat penyembuhan luka. Tujuan dalam penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak metanol daun rambutan sebagai bahan salep dengan parameter terhadap persentase penutupan luka sayat, kadar hidroksiprolin, dan kandungan total DNA pada mencit. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan 2 kelompok, yang terdiri dari 2 kelompok kontrol (K+: Povidone Iodine 10% dan K-: Tanpa Perlakuan) dan 3 kelompok perlakuan (P1: Salep ekstrak daun rambutan 5%, P2: Salep ekstrak daun rambutan 10%, dan P3: Salep ekstrak daun rambutan 15%) dengan 5 kali pengulangan, menggunakan sebanyak 25 ekor mencit jantan. Mencit diberikan luka sayat pada punggungnya dan diberi perlakuan sesuai kelompok selama 16 hari. Pengukuran panjang luka pada mencit dilakukan setiap 2 hari sekali. Pengambilan jaringan kulit mencit dilakukan pada hari ke-11 setelah luka, kemudian jaringan kulit mencit diukur kadar hidroksiprolin dan total DNA-nya. Hasil yang didapatkan menunjukkan bahwa salep dengan konsentrasi 15% lebih cepat dalam penyembuhan luka dilihat dari persentase penutupan luka.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the protein content in maggot flour based on differences in drying temperatures. Maggots or black soldier fly larvae are currently known for their high protein content and have the potential as a substitute for animal feed. The flouring process is carried out by drying the maggots and then extracting the drying results to obtain flour. This study was conducted by drying maggots with temperature variations of 60 ℃, 90 ℃, and 120 ℃ for 3 hours. Dried maggots were also used with a different process, namely the roasting method as a comparison. The results of the study showed that the higher the drying temperature, the more flour would be produced during the extraction process. Protein content testing was carried out using the Kjeldhal method. The results of this study showed that with a drying temperature of 120 ℃, flour had the highest average protein content of 22.63% while with a temperature of 60 ℃ it had the lowest protein content of 16.25%. Other results also showed that drying with the roasting method could provide a difference in protein content of 18.45%. The decrease in protein levels during the roasting process itself can occur as a result of the protein denaturation process that occurs during the drying process.

Abstract

Community Development Program-learning and community service program or Kuliah kerja nyata-pembelajaran dan pengabdian kepada masyarakat (KKN-PPM) which is a form of community service has been done from July-August 2019 in the Kelinjau Ulu and Kelinjau Ilir village, Muara Ancalong, East Kutai, East Kalimantan. The purpose of the KKN-PPM was to empower the community to be more productive. The theme of the KKN-PPM program  was "Semampai" which has a meaning sehat (healthy), manajerial (managerial), mandiri (independent) and pandai (smart). The KKN-PPM was performed by 20 undergraduate students from various faculties and under supervised by field supervisors. In addition to these thematic activities and KKN-PPM program, each undergraduate student also performed individual programs which related to their scientific background. In conclusion, the KKN-PPM is useful to the community in Kelinjau ulu and ilir to enhance the productivity, to be healthier, actively reading and smarter and more insightful.

Abstract

Sebagai salah satu faktor penting dalam pendidikan, guru harus meningkatkan pengetahuan, baik teoritis maupun keterampilan, seperti praktik laboratorium, terutama untuk guru biologi. Berdasarkan hal ini, tujuan program pengabdian masyarakat adalah untuk meningkatkan keterampilan teoritis dan praktis guru biologi SMA. Program pengabdian masyarakat ini diikuti oleh 30 guru dari berbagai SMA di Samarinda. Teori tentang ekstraksi, penyaringan, dan teknik uji antimikrobia dari sumber daya alam dilakukan di ruang kelas, sedangkan penggunaan rotary evaporator, freeze drying, skrining uji fitokimia, dan uji antimikrobia dilakukan di laboratorium yang dibantu oleh teknisi laboratorium. Setelah menerima program pengabdian masyarakat ini, nilai rata-rata kepuasan yang diberikan oleh para guru melalui kuisioner yaitu: (skala 5) sebanyak 49%, baik (skala 4) sebanyak 47%, cukup (nilai skala 3) ) sebesar 5% dan lebih kecil (skala nilai 2) sebesar 1%. Kesimpulan, kegiatan pengabdian ini berjalan dengan baik dan mempunyai manfaat baik bagi guru biologi SMA di Samarinda.

Abstract

This study addressed the environmental challenge of palm oil waste by utilizing Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch (OPEFB) and Oil Palm Kernel Cake (OPKC) as substrates for Hermetia illucens (Black Soldier Fly) larvae bioconversion. The larvae were cultivated after OPEFB pre-treatment through milling, hydrolysis, and saccharification with Aspergillus niger to enhance digestibility. Protein extracted from larvae was used to produce protein-based bioplastics. Result showed consistent larval growth and consumption rates but variation in waste reduction efficiency, with the 7:3 substrate ratio yielding the highest reduction. Bioplastics exhibited good elasticity and biodegradability, while protein enrichment improved mechanical strength and reduced water absorption. This approach demonstrates a sustainable alternative for managing palm oil waste and producing eco-friendly bioplastics.

Abstract

Teacher as one of the important key factors in education must enhance the quality of their knowledge both theoretical, skills, and expertise. For this reason, the community service program held by Department of Biology, FMIPA, Mulawarman University, Samarinda aimed to improve the practical skills of high school teachers. This program was attended by 16 teachers from various high schools from the Samarinda region and Tenggarong. The community service program consisted of 25% theory and 75% practice in one day. The theory about DNA isolation, polymerase chain reaction, and electrophoresis was done in the classroom. Meanwhile, in laboratory, the use of molecular biology equipment, electrophoresis, interpretation results of electrophoretic DNA bands, and NCBI was done by the teachers which is assisted by the laboratory assistant. In the end of the program, the skill of laboratory practice of teachers was improve, indicating by the increasing percentage of understanding about biology molecular skills.

Abstract

Pembangunan Ibukota Negara Nusantara (IKN) yang berpusat di Kalimantan Timur telah mempercepat urbanisasi dan konversi lahan yang berisiko mengancam ketahanan pangan regional. Salah satu dampak yang paling terasa adalah menurunnya produksi peternakan lokal dan meningkatnya ketergantungan pada pakan ternak impor. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman peternak di Kecamatan Babulu, Penajam Paser Utara, mengenai ketahanan pangan berbasis peternakan, dengan fokus pada kemandirian pakan ternak dari sumber daya lokal. Metode yang digunakan dalam program pengabdian ini adalah sosialisasi interaktif dan kunjungan lapangan ke unit feed mill. Hasil program menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman peserta tentang pentingnya penggunaan pakan lokal untuk mengurangi ketergantungan pada pakan impor serta dampaknya terhadap pengurangan biaya produksi hingga 30-50%. Program ini juga menunjukkan potensi keberlanjutan peternakan lokal melalui optimalisasi limbah pertanian dan hijauan alam sebagai pakan ternak. Peningkatan kapasitas peternak ini sangat penting untuk mendukung ketahanan pangan nasional, terutama di daerah penyangga IKN yang sedang berkembang.

Abstract

The development of sustainable and environmentally friendly cosmetic ingredients continues to be developed. One of the important ingredients in cosmetics is Lauric acid.  Lauric acid with high content can be obtained from the black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens L.) larva oil or BSFL oil.  The aim of the study was to reveal the potential of lauric acid from BSFL oil as an important ingredient in cosmetics. From previous research, it was stated that BSFL oil contains about 17-22% lauric acid even higher depends on their substrate to growth. The relatively high content of lauric acid in the BSFL oil, provides better advantages, lower toxicity and environmentally friendly as antibacteria, antifungal, and a biosurfactant compared to surfactants from petroleum. The use of BSFL oil as a sustainable source of lauric acid is attractive, because these insects can grow in various organic waste substrates, so the production process is more cost-effective and environmentally friendly. In addition, lauric acid as a biosurfactant exhibits properties of surface and interfacial activity, emulsification, wetting, and foaming, which are critical for the performance of various cosmetic products. In addition, lauric acid biosurfactants have been shown to have good antibacterial and antioxidant properties.
