Abstract

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a new type of coronavirus that has symptoms of acute respiratory distress in general. In more severe, it can cause kidney failure, pneumonia, and death. Environmental conditions that cannot be anticipated, such as climate factors, can have an impact on the transmission and survival of viruses, including the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) viruses, which are responsible for the emergence of respiratory diseases. This research is a quantitative study using an ecological approach with secondary data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (temperature, humidity, and precipitation), and SARS-CoV-2 cases were sourced from the Semarang City COVID-19 Task Force in 2021 were univariate and bivariate analyzing. The highest temperature average occurs in October (29.8 ⁰C), the humidity average occurs in February (91.4%), and the average precipitation occurs in February (1,130 mm). Analysis of the correlation found that there was a correlation between the SARS-CoV-2 cases with humidity (p=0.000; r=-0.245) and temperature (p=0.016; r=-0.127), but there was no correlation between precipitation (p=0.403; r=-0.044). Analysis of the influence of meteorological elements related to temperature, humidity, and precipitation on the incidence of COVID-19 in Semarang City in 2021, it can be concluded that there is correlation between temperature and humidity on COVID-19 cases except for precipitation.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) leads to an increase in Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), which disrupts the function of pancreatic β-cells. The dependency on medications often occurs, hence there is a need for natural remedies with antihyperglycemic properties, such as coffee. Coffee contains high levels of antioxidants like chlorogenic acid, flavonoids, and caffeine, which are exogenous antioxidants that can activate NRF-2 and increase the activity of the enzyme Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), thus acting as an antihyperglycemic agent. This study aims to determine the effect of robusta coffee on blood glucose levels in rats with DM conditions. This experimental study used a Randomized Control Pretest-Posttest Group Design. The sample in this study included 24 male Rattus norvegicus rats, aged 3 months, with a body weight of 230-250 grams, divided into 4 groups randomly after a one-week acclimation period. The DM condition was induced by administering streptozotocin at 40 mg/KgBW, followed by a pretest blood glucose level examination after 3 days of streptozotocin induction. The diabetic rats were then given robusta coffee once a day for a period of 14 days. On the 15th day, a posttest blood glucose level examination was conducted. The results showed that the control group (KN) had no significant difference (p=0.530), while the treatment groups KP (p=0.003), KK1 (p=0.013), and KK2 (p=0.000) showed significant differences (p<0.05). The conclusion of this study is that the administration of robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) can reduce blood glucose levels in rats with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by infection with the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tuberculosis apabila is not treated immediately or the treatment is not complete can result in complications leading to death. Multidrugs resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is one of the complications where the germ Mycobacterium tuberculosis can no longer bekilled with several Anti-Tuberculosis Drugs (OAT). The prevalence of MDR-TB cases in Semarang City has increased from 35 cases in 2017 to 79 cases in 2018. MDR-TB therapy takes a longer time, which is about 18-24 months. Prolonged exposure to drugs can affect body functions, especially the kidneys and liver organs which play a role in the process of removing toxins and metabolic waste. This study aims to determine the health profile of the kidney and liver organs of MDR TB sufferers through the SGOT SGPT and Creatinine parameters and describe them based on age and age range. This research is adescriptive quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling using total samples of 18 patients. The results showed that 33% (n= 6) of patients had increased levels of SGOT and SGPT, while examination of creatinine levels showed that 33% of patients had kidney problems. Men have upnormal SGOT and SGPT levels of 40% ( n=4) compared to women, which is 25% (n=2), while upnormal creatinine levels in men are 40% (n=4) while in women it is 50% (n = 8). Patients over the age of 46 years have the most levels of SGOT SGPT and upnormal creatinine, which is 61% (n=4). The results showed that age and gender had an effect on increasing SGOT SGPT and Creatinine levels in MDR-TB patients.

Abstract

Hyperglycemia is a condition that occurs when Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is uncontrolled, which causes an increase in free radicals and disruption of cell function and endogenous antioxidants. Coffee, especially robusta coffee, is known to have benefits as an exogenous antioxidant that can increase the activity of endogenous. This study aims to examine the effect of giving robusta coffee on the expression of Nuclear Factor-erythroid-2 Related Factor 2 (Nrf-2) and Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) in DM model mice. The design of this study was experimental with the Post Test Control Group Design method. A total of 24 male Rattus norvegicus mice aged 3 months with a body weight of 230-250 grams were randomly divided into four groups. After undergoing acclimatization for one week, the mice were given robusta coffee once a day for 14 days. On the 15th day, Nrf-2 and SOD expression were examined. The results showed that the average expression of Nrf-2 in each group was: 23.15 ± 1.96 (normal group/KN), 62.14 ± 1.30 (positive DM group/KP), 50.66 ± 2.18 (DM group with low dose coffee/KK1), and 71.13 ± 1.51 (DM group with high dose coffee/KK2). Meanwhile, SOD expression was: 4.95 ± 0.62 (KN), 8.14 ± 0.54 (KP), 6.10 ± 0.79 (KK1), and 9.26 ± 0.31 (KK2). The results of the ANOVA and Post Hoc LSD tests showed a p value <0.05, which indicated a significant difference between groups. In conclusion, administration of robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) was able to increase the activity of the Nrf-2 and SOD enzymes in mice suffering from diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases that occur due to abnormalities in insulin secretion and/or insulin action. In type 2 diabetes mellitus there is a decrease in glucose absorption by the body due to insulin resistance. Energy metabolism from glucose is processed through the synthesis of fatty acids in the liver (cytosol). The process that occurs continuously causes the accumulation of lipids in the liver or "fatty liver" so it is necessary to check the levels of transaminase enzymes which include SGOT and SGPT. The purpose of this study was to analyze the levels of SGOT and SGPT enzymes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus using the analytical observational method. The results of the examination of SGOT and SGPT levels from 30 patients who were taken randomly at Dr. Soetomo Surabaya will be analyzed with bar graphs and diagrams. Of 30 random samples, 20 samples (66.67%) had SGOT levels above the normal value, and 12 samples (40%) had SGPT with results above normal values. This study concludes that there is an increase in the levels of SGOT and SGPT enzymes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
