Abstract

Waste management in villages is becoming an increasingly important challenge to pay attention to. Communities often face problems in sorting and managing waste, which has an impact on the environment and health. To overcome this problem, community service activities through the Waste Bank concept were introduced. This activity aims to increase public awareness, especially among housewives, about the importance of waste management through waste banks and provide economic opportunities for well-managed waste. This activity was held on Saturday, 21 September 2024 in Pondok Serang Mulur Sukoharjo and involved representatives of the residents as future managers of the Waste Bank. The activity began with lectures and demonstrations regarding waste management, its impact on the environment, and the importance of waste banks so that residents were more motivated to participate. Furthermore, direct practice was carried out on how to sort waste based on type such as non-organic waste including plastic, glass, cardboard, mineral water bottles, plastic bags, and food packaging. Paper, iron, and electronic goods provide a concrete experience so that residents can apply this technique at home before taking the waste to the waste bank. After sorting, residents weigh each type of waste collected and record the price per kilo according to type, so that they understand the economic value of waste and are motivated to collect more. All types of waste are then collected into large plastic bags at the waste bank location to wait to be transported by waste vans, ensuring that management is carried out efficiently. At the end of the activity, discussions and evaluations were held to formulate follow-up plans, including regular meetings to monitor progress, so that the waste management program could be sustainable and effective. Thus, it is hoped that this activity can create a more structured waste management system, increase community participation, and provide environmental and economic benefits for the community. The response from participants in community service activities regarding waste management through waste banks was generally enthusiastic and positive. The resident felt enthusiastic about the new knowledge regarding the importance of sorting and managing waste, as well as being aware of its impact on the environment. They appreciated the hands-on practice that allowed them to learn how to sort organic and non-organic waste, and many committed to being more disciplined in waste management at home. Participants also hope that similar activities can be held regularly to continue to increase knowledge and share experiences. Several inputs were submitted regarding improving waste bank facilities and the need for further outreach regarding the economic value of waste. Overall, participants felt this activity was useful and wanted to contribute more to waste management in their community.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pendampingan dalam membangun dan mengelola bisnis atau usaha start-up bagi mahasiswa. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada hari Senin, 7 Oktober 2024 dengan melibatkan sejumlah mahasiswa. Kegiatan pelaksanaan program pendampingan dalam membangun dan mengelola bisnis startup bagi mahasiswa terdiri dari beberapa tahap. Pertama, penyuluhan dan sosialisasi dilakukan melalui seminar atau workshop kecil yang menghadirkan praktisi praktisi dari Nyalanesia Surakarta (startup pengembang program literasi sekolah terpadu) dan akademisi untuk menjelaskan konsep dasar startup, peluang bisnis, dan tantangan yang dihadapi, serta memberikan kesempatan bagi mahasiswa untuk berdiskusi. Setelah itu, mahasiswa mengikuti pelatihan praktis yang meliputi penyusunan rencana bisnis dan strategi pemasaran dalam kelompok kecil dengan panduan dari instruktur berpengalaman. Selanjutnya, mahasiswa yang memiliki ide bisnis mendapatkan pendampingan individu atau kelompok kecil untuk mengembangkan ide mereka menjadi rencana konkret. Dalam sesi mentoring, mereka berinteraksi dengan mentor yang berpengalaman di bidang startup untuk mendapatkan umpan balik dan strategi bisnis. Mahasiswa juga berpartisipasi dalam simulasi bisnis dan kompetisi rencana bisnis, yang memungkinkan mereka menerapkan keterampilan dalam konteks realistis. Monitoring dan evaluasi dilakukan untuk menilai kemajuan mahasiswa, sedangkan acara networking menghubungkan mereka dengan pengusaha lokal dan investor. Terakhir, pengembangan berkelanjutan melalui bimbingan rutin dan diskusi kelompok diharapkan dapat terus mendukung mahasiswa dalam perjalanan kewirausahaan mereka. Melalui kegiatan ini, diharapkan mahasiswa tidak hanya memperoleh pengetahuan dan keterampilan, tetapi juga pengalaman praktis untuk sukses di dunia startup. Mahasiswa menunjukkan antusiasme yang tinggi dalam mengikuti kegiatan pendampingan startup bisnis, merasa terinspirasi oleh interaksi dengan mentor berpengalaman. Mereka berbagi ide-ide kreatif dan saling mendukung dalam kelompok, menciptakan suasana positif. Keterlibatan dalam workshop dan pelatihan semakin memicu semangat mereka untuk menerapkan keterampilan baru. Dengan akses ke jaringan luar dan bahkan profesional, mahasiswa merasa beruntung bisa menjalin hubungan yang bermanfaat. Suasana belajar yang interaktif meningkatkan kepercayaan diri mereka dalam mengejar impian kewirausahaan, menghasilkan atmosfer dinamis yang penuh harapan dan keinginan untuk sukses di dunia bisnis.

Abstract

Tujuan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan keterampilan masyarakat Desa Tegalrejo sebagai “Kampung Lele” dalam mengelola budidaya lele secara efektif dan efisien, mendorong diversifikasi produk olahan lele untuk meningkatkan nilai tambah dan daya saing, serta meningkatkan kesejahteraan ekonomi lokal melalui pemberdayaan ekonomi berbasis budidaya lele. Metode kegiatan yang digunakan meliputi sosialisasi dan penyuluhan mengenai keberlanjutan dalam budidaya lele dan pengelolaan sumber daya alam, serta pengembangan strategi pemasaran untuk produk olahan lele guna memperluas pasar di tingkat regional bahkan nasional. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat di Kampung Lele, yang dilakukan selama pengabdia  dari 7 Mei hingga 7 Juni 2023, mencakup beberapa tahap. Pertama, dilakukan pengenalan kepada pemilik dan pengurus Kampung Lele untuk membangun komunikasi yang baik dan memahami visi, misi, serta kendala yang dihadapi. Selanjutnya, dilakukan pemilahan bibit lele yang baik dengan memilih bibit yang sehat dan berkualitas untuk mendukung pertumbuhan optimal. Kegiatan berikutnya adalah pemberian pakan yang konsisten dan berkualitas, di mana tim membantu menyusun jadwal pemberian pakan untuk memastikan pertumbuhan lele yang maksimal. Proses panen lele juga dilaksanakan dengan memisahkan lele yang sehat untuk dijual, guna meningkatkan kualitas produk yang dipasarkan. Setelah itu, dilakukan evaluasi dan pemantauan program untuk memastikan hasil yang diharapkan dan memberikan saran perbaikan. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan produktivitas dan kualitas budidaya lele serta memperluas daya saing pasar. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa Kampung Lele menunjukkan beberapa kekuatan, seperti lokasi strategis, kualitas produk unggul, harga terjangkau, dan kenyamanan tempat yang menarik konsumen. Ada juga peluang besar untuk ekspansi pasar produk olahan lele, seperti keripik dan abon, dengan memperkuat promosi dan pemasaran digital. Namun, terdapat kelemahan, seperti pencatatan manual dan pemasaran yang masih kurang efektif, yang perlu diperbaiki untuk meningkatkan pengelolaan keuangan dan daya saing pasar. Pengembangan lebih lanjut pada sistem pembukuan dan pemasaran digital akan sangat mendukung kelancaran operasional dan ekspansi usaha di masa depan

Abstract

This research describes the quality of an English textbook “Work in Progress” for SMA/SMK/MA Class X, especially edition 2022. This research is content analysis. The analysis shows that the book consists of chapters, the topic of the chapter, instructional objectives, questions to think about, tasks (project), chapter review, enrichment, reflection, and assessment. The Theory of Quality book by Greene & Petty (1971), this book has good quality based on ten criteria including 1) attracting the students’ interest through games such as Bingo and board games. 2) motivating students by using audiovisuals (photos/videos) and doing the design project. 3) loading/containing interesting illustrations in cartoon/caricature. 4) considering linguistic aspects and telling about English skills including listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and structures. 5) connecting to other subjects, such as related to subjects of sports, psychology (mental health), health, and nutrition. 6) stimulating students' activity, especially in doing individual tasks/projects. 7) Avoid vague concepts and use clear concepts, especially in instructions to do something based on the pictures given. 8) having a clear point of view, especially in the second-person point of view. 9) emphasizing the moral values to students/readers such as containing the story of Malin Kundang and Little Red Riding Hood. 10) respecting and appreciating the student's personality. The textbook is appropriate and suitable for its users (high school students). In terms of language, the book is communicative, easily understood by students, and does not contain a provocateur or anything like that.

Abstract

Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk mensosialisasikan cara pengisian Beban Kerja Dosen (BKD) di Sistem Informasi Sumberdaya Terintegrasi (SISTER) bagi dosen baru Institut Teknologi Bisnis AAS Indonesia pada semester gasal tahun akademik 2024/2025. Kegiatan ini bertajuk “Pengisian Beban Kinerja Dosen (BKD) di SISTER” dan dilaksanakan pada hari Senin, 13 Januari 2024. Peserta yang mengikuti kegiatan ini adalah sebagian dosen dari ITB AAS Indonesia. Metode kegiatan pengabdian ini menunjukkan bahwa metode yang digunakan, yaitu demonstrasi, workshop dan praktik langsung, diskusi dan tanya jawab, serta pendampingan dan evaluasi, telah berhasil membantu dosen baru ITB AAS Indonesia dalam memahami dan mengaplikasikan pengisian BKD di SISTER dengan lebih baik. Peserta dapat mengikuti langkah-langkah pengisian BKD secara sistematis melalui demonstrasi dan praktik langsung, sementara diskusi memungkinkan mereka menyelesaikan berbagai kendala teknis yang dihadapi. Pendampingan yang diberikan selama dan setelah kegiatan memastikan bahwa peserta dapat mengisi BKD secara mandiri dengan tingkat kesalahan yang minimal. Evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman dan keterampilan teknis peserta dalam mengelola BKD, sekaligus meningkatkan kesadaran mereka akan pentingnya pelaporan BKD sebagai bagian dari tanggung jawab akademik Kegiatan ini cukup meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan dosen baru ITB AAS Indonesia dalam pengisian BKD di SISTER. Dimulai dengan demonstrasi, workshop, dan praktik langsung, peserta dibimbing untuk mengatasi kendala teknis seperti klaim data dan pemilihan kategori kinerja. Pendampingan memastikan setiap tahapan diikuti dengan baik, dan evaluasi akhir menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas peserta mampu mengisi BKD secara mandiri dengan kesalahan minimal. Selain itu, kegiatan ini meningkatkan kesadaran dosen akan pentingnya pelaporan BKD sebagai bagian dari tanggung jawab akademik sesuai Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan ini berhasil mencapai tujuannya dalam mengoptimalkan pengisian BKD di SISTER bagi dosen baru ITB AAS Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to find out Jauhar as a representation of love, sacrifice, and loyalty in the Padmavaat movie. This research is descriptive qualitative. The analysis shows that the war between the two kingdoms was sparked by Sultan Alauddin Khilji's ambition to have Queen Padmavati, the wife of Raja Ratan Singh, the leader of the Rajputs. By a priest, he was predicted to become a ruler equal to Iskandar Agung if he managed to get Queen Padmavati who was said to be of incomparable beauty. In a one-on-one battle with Sultan Alauddin, Raja Ratan Singh was killed after Khilji's troops suddenly launched an arrow attack on him. Upon learning of her husband's death, Queen Padmavati decided to commit Jauhar, the practice of burning herself women to avoid slavery or rape by the enemy and invites women in the kingdom to follow in her footsteps. Queen Padmavati chose to be loyal to her husband and then do the Jauhar tradition with all the women of Chittor Palace. The Jauhar tradition is an act of mass self-immolation carried out by women for loyalty to their husbands who died on the battlefield to avoid being victorious in the war.

Abstract

This research uses descriptive qualitative research to analyse a mother's struggle to maintain custody of her child in a foreign country as depicted in the film Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. This approach was chosen to explore and understand the narrative, themes, and values contained in the film in depth. In the film, the story revolves Debika Chatterjee’s unwavering love and determination as a mother fighting against an unjust system to regain custody of her children. The struggle begins when Norwegian Child Protection Services takes her children, claiming her parenting practices, rooted in Indian culture, violate their norms. Despite facing cultural misunderstandings and a legal system that fails to grasp her traditions, Debika perseveres. Her challenges are compounded by the lack of support from her husband, Anirudh, who sides with the authorities, leaving her isolated in her battle. Debika also endures psychological and social pressure, including criticism from her family in India. Yet, her resolve strengthens as she gains support from a lawyer and the Indian government, which brings international attention to her case. After a long legal fight, Debika triumphs and reunites with her children, symbolizing the power of a mother’s love and her fight against injustice. Debika Chatterjee’s struggle in the film is a real-life example of a mother's unwavering love and her courage to fight against injustice for her children. Despite facing a foreign, unjust, and challenging legal system, Debika continues to fight without giving up, showing that a mother is willing to do anything to protect and restore her children’s happiness. The film depicts that a mother’s fight is about facing physical challenges and upholding cultural values and deep love for her children. AbstrakPenelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif untuk menganalisis perjuangan seorang ibu mempertahankan hak asuh anaknya di negara asing, sebagaimana digambarkan dalam film Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. Pendekatan ini dipilih untuk mengeksplorasi dan memahami narasi, tema, dan nilai-nilai yang terkandung dalam film secara mendalam. Dalam film ini, cerita berpusat pada cinta dan tekad yang tak tergoyahkan Debika Chatterjee sebagai seorang ibu yang berjuang melawan sistem yang tidak adil untuk mendapatkan kembali hak asuh anak-anaknya. Perjuangan ini dimulai ketika Layanan Perlindungan Anak Norwegia mengambil anak-anaknya, dengan alasan bahwa praktik pengasuhan yang didasarkan pada budaya India melanggar norma-norma mereka. Meskipun menghadapi kesalahpahaman budaya dan sistem hukum yang gagal memahami tradisinya, Debika tetap bertahan. Tantangannya semakin berat karena kurangnya dukungan dari suaminya, Anirudh, yang berpihak pada pihak berwenang, meninggalkan Debika sendirian dalam perjuangannya. Debika juga menghadapi tekanan psikologis dan sosial, termasuk kritik dari keluarganya di India. Namun, tekadnya semakin kuat ketika ia mendapatkan dukungan dari seorang pengacara dan pemerintah India, yang membawa perhatian internasional pada kasusnya. Setelah perjuangan hukum yang panjang, Debika menang dan bersatu kembali dengan anak-anaknya, simbol kekuatan cinta seorang ibu dan perjuangannya melawan ketidakadilan. Perjuangan Debika Chatterjee dalam film ini adalah contoh nyata cinta seorang ibu yang tak tergoyahkan dan keberaniannya untuk melawan ketidakadilan demi anak-anaknya. Meskipun menghadapi sistem hukum asing, tidak adil, dan menantang, Debika terus berjuang tanpa menyerah, menunjukkan bahwa seorang ibu siap melakukan apa saja untuk melindungi dan memulihkan kebahagiaan anak-anaknya. Film ini menggambarkan bahwa perjuangan seorang ibu adalah tentang menghadapi tantangan fisik dan mempertahankan nilai-nilai budaya serta cinta yang mendalam untuk anak-anaknya.

Abstract

This research describes English Language Teaching (ELT) strategies and challenges in Islamic Boarding Schools. This research is library research. The analysis shows that teaching English needs a system or method during the implementation. Besides, teaching foreign languages, such as English, faces challenges/difficulties/problems during the implementation. Factors such as teacher education background, enthusiasm level, comprehension of the student's character, and norms applied at Islamic Boarding Schools determine which strategies English teachers implement. Even though teachers attempt to develop their teaching strategies innovatively, stagnant techniques are used to meet students' requirements. By understanding a student's character, teachers can select the most effective method for teaching English. Modern Islamic boarding schools combine traditional and modern systems to prepare students for the challenges of the times. English is used to explore and implement the richness and beauty of Islamic boarding schools' knowledge of knowledge objects and conditions related to this era. English Language Instruction is essential for Pesantren, and it must be well-planned and organized to achieve high-quality English teaching and learning. Foreign languages must be used as the language of everyday life in Islamic boarding schools. The most important details are the teacher's dedication, the students' awareness of learning English, the challenges teachers face in providing modern learning, and the lack of exposure to Arabic. Arabic and English are the priority languages to be taught, as they are essential for understanding the Qur'an, hadiths, and globalization.

Abstract

This research describes the use of both Google Gemini and ChatGPT in English language learning. This research is descriptive qualitative. The analysis shows that both ChatGPT and Gemini provide valuable insights into AI's role in English language learning, though their approaches differ. ChatGPT focuses on practical applications like personalized feedback, chatbots, and analytics tools, emphasizing text generation and teacher workload reduction. Google Gemini, with its multimodal capabilities, highlights interactive learning systems, automation, and accessibility improvements in education. Both models stress personalization, interactivity, and teaching efficiency but with different emphases—ChatGPT on student analysis, Gemini on immersive experiences, and data-driven teaching. While both tools offer great potential, the choice between them depends on whether we prioritize text-based tasks (ChatGPT) or multimedia content (Google Gemini). Choosing between ChatGPT and Google Gemini depends on our specific needs. If we require text generation, such as creating articles or engaging in text-based conversations, ChatGPT is a better fit due to its focus on producing natural, relevant text. However, if you need to handle multiple types of data like text, images, audio, and video, Google Gemini's multimodal capabilities make it more versatile for multimedia tasks. While ChatGPT is ideal for text-based applications and integrates easily through APIs, Gemini is more suited for users within the Google ecosystem. ChatGPT is known for generating high-quality text, while Gemini provides good quality across various formats, but its effectiveness varies with context. Ultimately, the best choice depends on whether your focus is on text or multimedia tasks.

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative research explores the integration of Canva in the creation of students’ worksheets for English Language Teaching (ELT). Canva, a versatile tool offering professional templates tailored for educational purposes, enhances the effectiveness of educational materials. The platform’s intuitive editing tools enable educators to customize templates with illustrations, icons, and graphics, thereby enriching visual appeal and engaging students effectively. Canva’s user-friendly interface facilitates quick printing or digital sharing of completed worksheets, optimizing time and resources in educational settings. By leveraging Canva, educators can create visually appealing and interactive worksheets that cater to diverse learning needs, thereby enhancing student engagement in language learning. In ELT, student worksheets serve specific purposes to develop various language skills. Vocabulary worksheets assist students in learning and retaining English vocabulary through activities like word matching and sentence creation. Grammar worksheets focus on understanding and applying grammar rules, involving exercises that identify parts of speech and transform sentences. Reading comprehension worksheets aim to improve comprehension of English texts by prompting students to identify details, decipher word meanings, infer author intentions, and make inferences. Writing practice worksheets provide opportunities for students to refine writing skills across genres such as letters, essays, narratives, and descriptions, fostering proficiency in outlining, paragraph development, and editing. Listening worksheets enhance auditory comprehension skills through tasks like listening to conversations or texts and responding to related questions or tasks. Speaking activities worksheets promote oral communication practice through dialogues, role-plays, or presentations, boosting students’ confidence in spoken English. Integrated skills worksheets combine reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities into cohesive exercises that allow students to apply language skills in meaningful contexts. In summary, these diverse types of worksheets support comprehensive language development and proficiency in English, addressing varied learning needs effectively within the ELT framework.
