Abstract

Reading and literacy activities are often carried out by school institutions. In fact, reading and literacy are basic competencies that a person must have in order to survive in life. Meanwhile, reading learning and literacy activities in class do not yet have a sufficient portion to be able to provide comprehensive provisions to students. This community service activity is carried out to strengthen reading and literacy skills in the general public outside school institutions. Apart from that, this activity also aims to encourage the young generation in Tegalsari Village, Kandeman District, Batang Regency to have critical awareness in all their activities, especially in the field of education. Therefore, this service uses Participatory Action Research (PAR) as an approach method with the hope of creating social transformation carried out by the fostered partners or the youth community itself. Through PAR, this service produces three recommendations in the form of a flow of activities as the expected final achievements, namely planning, implementation and evaluation. Based on these results, the service team, youth community, community and village government discovered how important the existence of reading huts is in busy nodes or places of community activity. Through this literacy village pilot, the youth community and the people of Tegalsari Village gained a new perspective that the literacy village pilot became a symbol of progress and stability in the village community's thinking

Abstract

The Baturraden legend, as an integral part of Indonesia's cultural heritage, contains moral and ethical teachings relevant to the values of religious moderation, such as national commitment, anti-violence, tolerance, and accommodation toward local cultures. The importance of instilling these values in the younger generation aims to shape inclusive and tolerant character. This research aims to identify and analyze the values of religious moderation within the Baturraden legend and explore opportunities for its implementation in literature education at the high school level. The method used is descriptive qualitative research with content and interpretative analysis of the narratives and characters within the legend. The results of the study indicate that the Baturraden legend contains values of religious moderation that can be utilized as teaching materials in the literature curriculum, enhancing students' understanding of cultural diversity and fostering inclusive and tolerant character.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the environment and ecological messages contained in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk trilogy. This library research data uses library techniques with an eco-critical approach to the Greg Garrard model through reading neoconservatism. The results show that Ahmad Tohari has indirectly contributed to nature conservation through the mainstreaming of the green literature he has created. The environmental portraits drawn from this novel refer to environmental patterns of traditionality or local wisdom and modernity. The narrative of environmental preservation in the Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk novel trilogy is represented through an apocalyptic style. The description of environmental damage is presented in an anthropogenic style. The two styles show identical motives, namely as a preventive and curative step chosen by Ahmad Tohari to be involved in efforts to conserve the environment.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of gender bias embedded within the technical structure of Arabic textbooks, a pedagogical tool often perceived as a neutral medium for knowledge transfer. Specifically, it aims to uncover gender subordination within Muhammad Yusron’s Qawāid al-Lughah al-Arabiyyah through the lens of Roland Barthes’ semiotics. Employing a qualitative-descriptive method, the analysis scrutinizes three primary instructional components: reading materials (al-qirā’atu), grammatical rules (al-qawāidu), and exercises (al-tadrībātu), to deconstruct the two-stage signification system of denotation and connotation. The findings reveal that gender subordination is systematically manifested through the dominance of male subjects as the primary centers of intellectual, social, and religious authority. Semiotically, the marginalization of female representation and the use of collective diction, such as substituting zaujah (wife) with usrah (family), serve as potent indicators of "masculine normativity." Through repetitive grammatical signs and an exercise ratio of 5:1 favoring males, the textbook effectively reinforces the myth of men as the central subjects of Arabic linguistics, while relegating women to marginal roles. This study concludes that seemingly objective grammatical rules function as a vehicle for internalizing patriarchal ideology. These implications necessitate a deconstruction and reconstruction of the Arabic curriculum to foster a more inclusive, gender-responsive framework that ensures equitable representation without symbolic discrimination.

Abstract

This study aims to develop Montessori-based teaching materials called BASIBA (Low Reading Student Teaching Materials) to improve the early reading skills of first-grade students at MSI 14 Medono. The main problem is the high prevalence of slow readers, caused by a lack of literacy stimulation from parents, monotonous conventional learning methods, and teaching materials that do not suit children's cognitive and sensory needs. This study uses a Research and Development (R&D) approach, utilizing the ADDIE model, with a sample of 30 first-grade students. The analysis stage identified needs through observations and interviews with teachers, revealing that 10 students were unable to recognize letters, 12 had difficulty with double consonants, and only 8 were fluent readers. BASIBA was designed based on Montessori principles: multisensory, concrete, and gradual (letters, syllables, words, sentences), and it is equipped with student worksheets and guide barcodes. Validation by media and materials experts gave a feasibility score of 93% and 93.75% (very feasible). The implementation of BASIBA improved students' early reading skills; the pretest score of 63.43 increased to 80.69, yielding an N-Gain of 0.4460 (44.6%). The teacher's response reached 96.25%, and students showed high enthusiasm. The novelty of the research lies in the development of structured Montessori-based teaching materials specifically for slow-reading students through a multisensory approach in a systematic printed format. This research provides a scientific contribution in the form of innovative early reading teaching materials as an inclusive learning solution to improve basic literacy in elementary schools.
